The previous years there was never a discussion about time, but this year I had at least two money boys telling me they only have 1 hour time (or similar, like arriving 20:10 and telling me he has to leave 21:00). When I messaged one back that I will take him another day when he has more time, he agreed to 1h 30min. With two straight boys obviously without any previous gay experience that I managed to get into my room this year, there was talk throughout about being hungry and wanting to go eating, some appointment in 30 minutes, motorbike was borrowed from friend and has to be returned soon and so on, that I had to cut the encounter short because I don't like rushing sex and I don't like talking during sex. Bucky's experiences are totally plausible, and I think it is rather firecat69 who has been lucky or didn't realize he was scammed or money was stolen. Now I remember two more situations: Theft of money in Sakon Nakon when I was in the shower in my friend's house. Over 4000 Baht, thief was probably the driver. This was a year ago, next time I go I might ask where the driver is and reveal the truth (at that time, I told my friend I lost the money and asked for help searching). That makes 4 confirmed thefts out of about 200 boys. I now have set up my camera in a hidden spot in my room and arranged light and angle so I can film that part of my room where I put my trousers (with wallet) when I take shower. Tested yesterday with a boy who might be a thief, but he stayed on bed reading book while I was in the shower. But I have a boy who I know is a thief because I counted before and after our previous encounter. If/when I invite him again, it will be caught on video! (Just of personal interest, I won't tell him that I know he is a thief.) On my second (?) trip to Thailand, a friend took me to ICK disco in Ramkhamhaeng 89/2 (then Singapore, then Wave, now permanently closed). I paid for drink with 1000 Baht note. My friend got drunk and disappeared (so he told me the following day when communication was resumed). I looked around for my friend and waited for change until closing time. Then I asked waiter for change, but nobody spoke English so I left without change.

A Thai friend occasionally borrows money from me (and returns most of it, but it can take long), so I told him to write down how he spends his money. About 1/3 of his income goes to his mother. In the West, we pay a similar fraction as social insurances, so it's not that different. From what I understand, the order of importance is: mother >> other familiy > friends > pet >> farang customer/boyfriend After some years of boyfriendship, farang might get a status above pet.

I just read the discussion preceding this thread (numazu warned of the broken phone scam), and now I vaguely remember having read about the following scam: someone is walking and looking at his phone (which is already broken) and deliberately runs into a tourist and drops the phone, in order to accuse the tourist of running into him. He then requests a replacement, backed up by friends of the scammer who appear as passers-by and witnessed the accident. There is/was a similar story of a woman forcing bird food on tourists to feed birds at Sanam Luang, and asking for outrageous amounts of money afterwards, backed up by friends of her.

This question brings us closer to the reasons for my total rejection of drugs. I use knives to cut things and accept the risks associated with knives. I ride cars and buses and accept the risk of accidents (even without drunk driving and speeding, there would be accidents). But my experiences with drugs (getting drunk once and being around smokers or drunks) are entirely in the negative to neutral range. Second hand smoke ranges from just annoying to tearing eyes (when there are important reasons to stay in an area with smokers, like gay disco). When I was around 18, I once got drunk. My brain remained clear, but I had physical problems (unable to walk straight). When other people are drunk, it's at best mildly amusing or entertaining, but mostly annoying. I occasionally observe glue sniffers, rather saddening and the smell is disgusting. That leads to the question: if someone provided me with a positive experience with drugs, would I change my mind? But there will be no experience at all, I wouldn't take anything because it's illegal and because I'm a chemist (I wouldn't take in substances that laymen tempered with, and I wouldn't take clean substances because if I liked it, I could make it myself*, produce more than my own consumption, and get down a slippery slope). *True only for some substances. Morphine derived drugs cannot be produced economically in the laboratory, the only viable source is poppy. Precursors for stuff than can be made in the laboratory are restricted in sale and use.

Interesting thread, thank you! I would like to know the range of price (minimum - average - maximum) you ever got for each country. And are there any annoying things customers do (I don't like to talk during sex, but some boys do, I have to tell them to shut up; but obviously you can't tell you customer to shut up).

The OP has nothing to fear, but the boy might lose his job (depending on hotel policy). He can judge this risk better than I, so that wouldn't hold me back. If in doubt, meet somewhere else.* The problem I see is to find a suitable moment to let the boy know you are interested, where it appears to be normal staff/customer interaction and nobody except you too know what was really going on. When I like someone, I would not neither offer money nor talk/write about sex on first encounter, just small talk and/or exchange of phone number. Then he is welcome to tell me about his financial situation and to ask for help. If I have met the same person a few times and he knows what I am up to and I know he is has no sexual interest in me, then I will offer money to make it possible. I have three experiences on this subject: In Chiang Mai a boy in a gay hotel came to me at night to bring me plate of fruit (I was very tired at that moment and didn't think more of it), and following day he told me they (staff) look at customer's passport copies and he likes my picture. Nothing more became of it. In Sangklaburi I chatted with a boy in a hotel who probably was gay and interested. Nothing more became of it. In Pattani a man (staff in my hotel) came to my room to bring me a bottle of water, closed to door (a sign of what was to come), complimented me on my white skin (I just had a shower and was in towel), but when he started to touch me I thanked him for the water and opened the door. A friend of mine goes on cruises (ships) and says there is a rule that the cabin door has to be fully open when staff is in the room for cleaning. *On the other hand, friend of mine has been to Myanmar over 10 years ago when hotel customers could not have visitors to rooms, but staff go enter the room. He gave one staff his number, and after that all of the male staff came knocking on his door (and he got fucked by all of them - my friend is not picky).

To my previous post add one rigged taxi meter (I shared details at that time), and not a scam, but one attempted theft (pickpocket) on a Baht-bus in Bangkok (going to Seacon Square). Taxi going slower than 6 km/h is charged 2 Baht/minute. Thanks Bucky for sharing "Patpong upstairs bar" story. I am sometimes tempted (what they announce makes me curious), but didn't dare going not knowing where exactly the scam is. Make it "waving". The meaning is very different in this context. Scams with change can easily be avoided by paying the exact amount in such situations. One could add double pricing for Thai and foreigners and displaying prices in menus before adding 10% service charge and 7% VAT as scams.

If I remember correctly, the late previous owner of another forum once wrote that he requests a wheelchair (already with the airline when booking the flight?), which the airport would provide for free. Don't remember if that included fast track.

Negligible compared to the positive experiences, nonetheless worth sharing: On my first trip to Thailand I played along the "Royal Palace is closed scam". At the last temple stop, the driver just abandoned me: he was gone when I came back to the parking places. Occasional offers for fixed fare by taxi drivers, usually twice of what it would cost by meter. Three confirmed thefts by boys, two more unconfirmed. Out of a total of estimated 200 encounters. One boy wanted to borrow 10,000 THB and brought a mobile phone as pawn. Actually have to consider all "borrow money" as scam as they are either not willing or not able to return the money. Over the years, about 2000 Baht loss this way. Nowadays, I consider all lent money as a gift. On tuk-tuk from Nong Khai railway station to border, driver asked if we want visa and as there was no recline of his offer (we were about 4), he turned to roadside "visa office". From having been to Lao before, I recognized this as a scam and told him to continue to border, which he did. Not really a scam, but half a year ago I forgot my bag with stuff in a taxi (actually a friend left it in the taxi, he is to blame), realized shortly afterwards, called their hotline and gave all details. Didn't get the bag back. Resale value maybe 50 Baht, replacement value about 500 Baht, some stuff of emotional value. Scams in other countries: In Bali I fell for the money exchange scam and lost the equivalent of 30 Euro when exchanging 100 Euro. Bus station a few km out of town in Siem Reap and in Bali with taxi and tuk tuk drivers descending onto passengers.

A civilized discussion with educated people, a rare thing on the gay forums! After seizing power, I would grant a transition period where everyone affected has time to abjure drug use. After that, there would be re-education camps for those who didn't use the transition period. Everyone would come out clean of these re-education camps. And only for the most recalcitrant, there would be death sentence. But this is moot, I would rather like to hear how those who are for legalizing drugs would prevents accidents by drug users. Laws to reduce second hand smoke to not work. Only recently I was in the disco of Farose 2 sauna, ample smoking in there. I remember my time in Paris: restaurants are non-smoking inside and smoking outside. Smokers would smoke outside, non-smokers would be forced to go inside to avoid the smoke (not that I went to that many restaurants in Paris, but I clearly remember). Recreational drugs can be produced cheaply, the high prices for illegal drugs are only because they are illegal. If legalized, they would be affordable to everyone. Drug-related crime would indeed disappear, but accidents by people under influence would increase. 99 people can use alcohol reasonably, but 1 causes an accident while driving drunk. How do you balance the enjoyment of 99 to the damage (death and injury) caused by 1? If you disagree with my suggestions, let me know why and show different solutions than mine, and I might change my opinion. I admit that prohibition did not work and the war on drugs does not work. The questions is: abort or increase efforts? Those in power might just want to keep the current status (illegal drug use with all side effects versus leagalizing or abolishing drug use). Not a story, but two deaths in my family that support my anti-drug position. My grandfather died of lung cancer after being a heavy smoker for decades. (There is no proof that these are related, but statistics say that smokers get lung cancer more often than non-smokers.) My uncle died in a swimming accident under influence of alcohol. (My remaining uncle jokes the problem was the swimming, not the alcohol. If he had sat in his chair or laid on his bed while drunk, like all the years before, nothing would have happened).

And what about others who will be affected? Second hand smoke, traffic accidents from drunk driving, drug-related crime and finally costs for medical treatment?

If I had absolute power, I would ban all drugs, including alcohol and tobacco. The prison problem can be solved by death sentence for everyone who is producing or dealing, or user after being caught the third time. Some countries already have death sentence, and people argue that it doesn't work as deterrent, well I say it works: everyone sentenced to death will never produce, deal or consume drugs again! There are discussions about legalizing cannabis in several western countries, a capitulation of reason, in my opinion.

And the difference between 100 Dollar and 1000 Dollar is only a 0. Weekly is a good idea. My impression is that most Thai boys can make a certain amount of money last a week (and if not, just tell them to wait for the next deposit), but not a month. Sending money to a Thai boy is like trying to fill a bucket with water that has a hole. (Imagine a picture with with a half full bucket and water flowing out of the hole, and some filling it up at the same rate the water is flowing out and crying: I need more water. - If I had artistic talent I would draw such a picture.) (Other comparison: certain diseases that doctors cannot cure, only alleviate the effects.)

There is only one gay sauna in Pattaya: Sansuk. The standard of facilities is good (several visits, last visit over a year ago) I would never take a boy into a sauna; at home I have better facilities, it's free and I don't have to travel.

Some places get talked about more for no apparent reason. This effect is self-enhancing: someone who comes to Thailand for the first time will know only these places from internet, and will go there and report about his experiences in these places. I have been to the massage places next to Tawan and opposite Tawan (don't remember their exact names), no complaints. From a higher rate for massage you can expect a higher standard of room (bigger, nicer decoration), whereas from a higher minimum tip I would not expect a better massage or better happy ending. Therefore I usually go to low- or mid-price massage places. For me, the important point is the masseur, not the massage place. And I think my chances to find one who is skilled at massage, happy ending and is my type are the same in all massage places.

From my observations, I have come to the conclusion that not lack of money is the problem, but poor planning. vinapu: and this brings entirely new subject. Most of us probably don't realize how many boys are intimidated by the big city and don't know their way around. Once Arena boy / around the corner from Chong Nonsi BTS / told me he never took a BTS because he doesn't know how to go about it. If you have no previous experience with gay sex, I recommend going to a gay sauna first (there is only one in Pattaya: Sansuk, and many in Bangkok). Entry price is similar to one drink in bar, but in the darkrooms and steamroom you can touch or do even more (within reason and mutual agreement) all for free. As for threesome boy-you-your girlfriend, that should be easy to arrange as many boys who work in gay bars are straight anyway (but ratio can vary considerably from bar to bar).

The price is (not clearly, but in small print) displayed in the corner of that picture/flyer the doorman shows passers-by to entice them in. Currently 400 Baht, however when I went with 2 friends a few months ago we manage to negotiate down to 250 per person per drink.
