I find that rules in Japanese culture are often way behind a quickly changing world (see for example the strange laws about female prostitution, which were designed to prevent pregnancies in a world where there are now so many other ways to avoid pregnancies).

Many of the rules on prostitution and sex were devised in the immediate post war period, influenced less by the Japanese themselves and much more by the American occupiers. The Americans were in fact conflicted by their own attitudes to sex and morality. They had condemned the use of what became known as "comfort women" to provide sexual services to Japanese throughout the war. Yet the American occupiers in Japan had around 430,000 of its own troops stationed in the country and these were also young men with a high sex drive.

Against this, the American view on morality was essentially conservative and its leaders did not want to be seen as condoning sex. For the Japanese there was another problem. Many of the young GIs arrived in Japan with venereal disease. So the Japanese agreed to brothels being opened but only for American military personnel.

The occupying Americans' prudish attitude to sex went a lot further. Even though nudity in Japan was totally natural prior to the war with public bathing essential and whole families attending the same bathhouse (segregation was almost unheard of), this was considered going way too far in the eyes of the occupiers. Thus the Americans passed a law stipulating photos of female genitalia were banned in all media, which in those days basically meant print media. When Playboy first appeared, a small army of Japanese women used small knives to scratch out the pubic hair before it went on sale.

With a series of equally conservative governments, the Japanese have never rescinded this law. It did not affect photos of males because the first gay magazine did not appear until 1971. By then, though, the rule was entrenched and was assumed to apply also to the male figure. Hence what I and most others consider the near idiotic situation of almost all gay porn for local consumption now having pixilation.  What makes it so stupid is there are machines on sale in the country which will unpixilate photos! And a growing number of producers and indivduals are posting unpixilated vdos online. Some producers are starting to use utilize pixilation that is so tame it is almost unnnoticed. Yet no Japanese government will allow itself to be seen publicly as changing the law!

Before the women used their knives /needles to scrape away offending parts of Playboy photos, they blacked them out with texta. This was easily wiped away with a type of acetone sold at the pharmacy!

I just made my bookings through email and quoted the course or physically went in and asked for the course. It seems kidsgp in Tokyo now offers it too. Trying them next week.

It’s a bit early, most of the guy’s schedule aren’t fixed yet. You can think of them as independent agents who gives their work schedule to the shop, not the shop arranges their work schedule to fit appointments.

They usually give out their schedule on a weekly basis, this week for next week or even days. 

You can always try, I usually have no issue leaving the room number blank or just type in “not yet checked in”

Was in Japan earlier this month and hired one guy from Chance Shinjuku (one of several outlets in Tokyo) and two guys on separate occasions from Chance Osaka. I can recommend this agency as the overall experience was very good:

- I booked through the website and follow up was by email whereas I wrote in English and replies were in Japanese with English translation. No issues at all with very swift replies and clear instructions.

- The guys looked very similar to the pictures on the website. Only exception is that the face skin was a bit photoshopped in the pictures, but that is very common also on the apps these days in Asia and their skin was not bad. 

- The guys were very nice, good/experienced in what they are doing and clearly wanted to please.

- The fees requested were exactly as posted on the website with payment in cash to the guys. The fees are quite modest compared to other developed countries. As such and taking into account the good service I gave an extra tip to the guys which they refused at first but then happily accepted.

- Only one out of the three guys spoke some English, communication with the other two was by translation through mobile phone which worked fine as the idea was not to discuss world politics anyway :-) In the booking process you are asked to indicate your preferences (top/bottom/flip), so the guys knew already how things will turn out...

I don't have any experience with other agencies so can't compare, but would definitely use Chance again.

Forgot to mentioned in the above post. On one occasion (Shinjuku-Tokyo) I used on of their rooms, which was just a small condo in a regular apartment building. They gave me the address of a restaurant on the ground floor and asked to wait outside. Then the guy came downstairs to pick me up. On the two occasions in Osaka I had the guys come to my hotel. They were all on time and easily recognisable from the website photos.

For a veteran of these services, I had an interesting day of firsts yesterday. I'll just note them with a "(1st)", lol.

I was trying Salon-Imaike for the first time - they look to have branches all over Japan but not many boys at each.

I initially tried to book Ryoma but they said "Ryoma-kun cannot accommodate customers of foreign nationality." 🤔 (1st). I didn't push for a clarification and went with Hikaru instead.
