caeron Posted May 4 Posted May 4 You can certainly treat a hire as a piece of meat and dehumanize them, but I disagree that the act of engaging them is inherently dehumanizing. It's a job. I often didn't like my work. But, it paid well and I did it. Why is that any different than this? Perhaps you can argue, and I don't think I'd disagree, that most work is dehumanizing. If you're working, it's almost always because you have to. Different forms of economic vulnerability, but still most people do it because they have to. I do not subscribe to the notion that sex work is somehow inherently worse than other jobs. If you don't want to dehumanize the guys, don't be an asshole. It is amazing how many social interactions go so much better when you aren't an asshole. Ian here, tm_nyc and khaolakguy 3 Quote

Her point was that she got to dress how she wanted to, did things she liked, set her own schedule, had tons of free time and only take clients she wanted to. She said she didn’t feel exploited or degraded. Now her high school job at McDonalds…. caeron, vinapu and ChristianPFC 3 Quote
kram987 Posted May 7 Posted May 7 About economic exploitation, I think many maybe most people only do their jobs because they need the money. Also, what they are saying is that it is better to let them starve? I think that its usually best to let people decide for themselves what they want to do. vinapu 1 Quote

Marc308 Posted Thursday at 09:23 PM Posted Thursday at 09:23 PM You might remember the Midnight Cowboy bar in Saphan Kwai from (many) years ago. The mamasan (from Hong Kong) there was a very realistic person when it came to describing the boy trade. "Would you rather work for an hour in a nice air conditioned hotel room... or work for a few weeks in a steamy, mosquito-infested rice paddy?" She said she thought that most go-go boys were basically lazy, wanting to earn money as easily and as quickly as possible. She also pointed out that in order to attract a nice girlfriend, they need money. "No girl wants to date a poor boy" she reasoned. Now just to put this all in context... at the time, when asked if 500 baht was acceptable, she replied "that would be very generous". Times have obviously changed. Isaan boys are no longer restricted to being a rice farmer, but... ? floridarob 1 Quote

Many wives /girlfriends would wait for their guys outside Krazy Dragon in Sunee every night. If I walked out alone they would often suggest I go with their partners! And some of the guys at the old Goodboys and Niceboys bars told me their girlfriends knew what they did. I have also met a few wives over the years and although I felt rather embarrassed (I'm fucking him and he's sucking my cock!!) they were nonchalant. I thought this attitude might be a Thai thing, but then I met the Danish girlfriend of a hugely hung Isaan guy who was the top in a fuck show. I asked her how she felt about his job and her answer was - 'It doesn't bother me. Besides, I get to enjoy that cock when he gets home'. We proceeded to have a very enjoyable conversation about his cock. She told me how difficult it was to give him blowjob, as she had trouble getting her lips around it. She laughed when I said I would be willing to give her a demonstration of how it's done! The younger brother of my long-term Pattaya friend worked in Eros with him, and their sister worked in a bar in Walking Street. I loved the fact that they didn't have any hang-ups regarding prostitution. They saw it as a legitimate way to make money. And why not? Ian here and Ruthrieston 1 1 Quote

Whenever he comes home late (i.e., more than 30 min after the bar closes), she would video-call to check his whereabouts. And he only picks up the phone if the customer has a penis This reminds me of someone in here saying in another thread that he would mind less if his boyfriend/sponsee has a wife instead of another male partner. This seems to be quite common among straight guys doing gay-for-pay work, and not just in Thailand. I think it's the same the world over. The wife is far more insecure about the possibility of an emotional relationship developing between a female customer and her husband than a male customer. Many years ago, I came across a story about a gay-for-pay guy eventually going into a relationship (and apparently a deeply emotional one) with a male customer and it took a long time before the wife figured out. Apparently, she just didn't understand the concept of bisexuality (he was); there was perahps also denial. She plotted murder when it finally dawned on her what happened. Alas, I can't remember whether she succeeded in her plans or not! As @vinapu has said many times, it's hard to imagine any gay-for-pay guy not being at least somewhat bisexual..... jimmie50 and Min 2 Quote

I think it's the same the world over. The wife is far more insecure about the possibility of an emotional relationship developing between a female customer and her husband than a male customer. This was exactly true when I lived in Budapest for 8 years. One of my main massage guys was a military bi army guy and his wife was ok with it - as long as his customers were male. After many years of getting to know him, I also got to know his wife - as he would often call her to say that he was at my place and I would often speak to her. Unfortunately, that bastard was using me as an alibi to go with other women - because unbeknownst to me he was telling his beautiful wife that he was going to massage me but was instead f$%king other women. So, one evening she called me frantically looking for him and I told him that he was not at my place and that is when everything was exposed. She was angry at him for going with other women and I was mad at him for using me as an alibi to go with other women. On Thursday evenings, at the Action Bar (now closed) in Budapest was a reoccurring event = "Get to know your escort night" and the owner of the bar would invite the many escorts to sit and drink with the customers. I had the hots for one of their regulars who performed in the Oral Academy show on the weekends and he was at the Thursday night event with his wife. I bought both of them a drink and I asked him if I could have a private session with him at my place and he told me to talk to his business partner (his wife) to negotiate the deal. After agreeing on the deal terms I said to her, aren't you jealous? She replied no - I get to manage and approve who he goes with and it brings in extra income into our household. Amazing. Quote

It’s sort of like how actors can marry each other and not mind if their partner films intimacy scenes with another actor, they know it’s strictly professional. Though of course hiccups can happen (Brangelina comes to mind). Generally they mind far less if their guy is going with other guys. Vice versa it makes me wonder how bar guys are so relaxed about the fact their girlfriends are off with different men all the time. I once met a European woman who was in a relationship with a Cambodian bar boy and was stepmothering his two kids. Quote
