OK, I ran across this blog by accident and had to post it here. By turns horrifying, sad, fascinating, funny and painful (often enough all jumbled up together), you gotta read it, it defies description. Many of yall who came of age in the 60s may recognize aspects of your own life here. PS Oz, there are several paragraphs on the Gaiety and other such clubs which you might like (about 2/3rds the way through). Also an insider's view of the release of the first anti-viral drug for Karposa's sarcoma and the vicious homophobia of the pharma company that developed it. And if you're Jewish &/or from NY/have lived in NY, it's a double plus must read.

The offices of Rentboy in NYC have been raided and 7 arrested with charges of prostitution and money laundering. Just google and all the articles will come up. Could be a bumpy ride for some other sites.

ESPN has been promoting a piece about out lacrosse players, to first air today (Sunday, 8/30) sometime. I'm not clear whether it will be a feature segment on Sports Center or, maybe, one of their in depth stories (in a series called "30 for 30.") Or maybe it's a stand alone article & I'm just too ignorant to figure it out from the promos. The feature is titled "The Courage Game" and seems to be something well worth watching. I'm almost certain it covers, inter alia, Andrew Goldstein and Braeden Lange whose lives intersected in a most remarkable and heart warming way, as set out in this article.

I have had the pleasure of working with/ hiring/meeting/fantasizing over many of these young men. They form the basis of my erotic "buttons". I wish I had the means to connect with all of the fellas I hired "back in the day" who are still alive to make a film about those days. I am thankful that I survived the plague years. and that I never let my darker Demons lead me into death."There but for the grace of G-d go I" is a very pertinent phrase to me-one that I repeat often.

So, I created a fun (subjective) and mindful (for RA1) poll with respect to what we are going to do now that RentBoy.com has been seized. I put some thought into this, so to my dismay, it disappeared like Edward Snowden and I have no idea as to where it went after I hit enter. I realize that the Boytoy IT personnel might be in hiding (kidding?) but is there a way to salvage my fun and mindful (RA1?) poll so we can at least have some fun with it?

On Tuesday of this week, the owner and five employees of rentboy.com were arrested as discussed in the below link. Information at the link will provide greater detail of what occurred. So far, two gay "escort" sites have been seized by the FBI, the DHS, the IRS and local police (myredbook.com and rentboy.com). The reason stated for the seizures is "prostitution." However, the seizure obviously includes more than just prostitution because of the involvement of the Internal Revenue Service. Considering that the Internal Revenue Service is involved in the seizures, is is obvious that the IRS is alleging that the site owners and/or the escorts who contracted with c…

In the biggest non-surprise so far this year..........because we just don't get enough daily, crazy..... Televangelist Pat Robertson says he believes the Dow Jones Industrial Average’s massive sell-off this morning was God’s way of punishing the Obama administration for supporting abortion rights and funding Planned Parenthood, not the reverberations of China’s stock-market crash. “We will pay dearly as a nation for this thing going on,” he said. “And possibly if we were to stop all this slaughter the judgment of God might be lifted from us. But it’s coming, ladies and gentlemen,” the host of the “700 Club” said. “We just had a little taste of it in terms of the finan…

Canada's central bank is urging citizens to stop defacing their $5 notes in a tribute to deceased actor Leonard Nimoy. In a trend dubbed "Spocking," Canadians have taken to drawing pointy ears and tiled brows on top of Canada's seventh prime minister, Sir. Wilfrid Laurier, to make him look like Mr. Spock, the half-Vulcan, half-human Star Trek character made famous by Nimoy. The "Spocking" trend has lead to Twitter hashtags #Spocking and #Spockingfives along with pictures of people's various designs. It has also led the Bank of Canada to issue a statement urging people to please stop. While it is not illegal to deface Canadian bills, "there are important reasons why …

  14. For those who's flights experience delays while traveling through/to/from Europe, you may be entitled up to 600 Euros in compensation. On a recent flight from BKK to Paris, my flight was delayed by two hours which resulted in missing a connecting flight to NYC/JFK. I was put on another flight the following day, a delay of about 12 hours. A fellow passenger, a Brit, advised me to file a claim with Air France the carrier. He did this and was given 600 Euros. The applicable Regulation is EC 261/204. You can try to file a claim with the airline or through a "collection" agency. If filing a claim be sure to refer to EC 261/204. Here are some links for mo…

This article from the Boston Globe is a nice survey of the latest research on the origins of sexual orientation. Too nuanced to summarize here, so just read it. It's well written, easy to comprehend and seems to have been written by a guy with no particular axe to grind.

The National Security Agency’s ability to spy on vast quantities of Internet traffic passing through the United States has relied on its extraordinary, decades-long partnership with a single company: the telecom giant AT&T. While it has been long known that American telecommunications companies worked closely with the spy agency, newly disclosed N.S.A. documents show that the relationship with AT&T has been considered unique and especially productive. One document described it as “highly collaborative,” while another lauded the company’s “extreme willingness to help.” AT&T’s cooperation has involved a broad range of classified activities, according to the do…

Thread hijacks have been a topic of discussion, often heated, ever since online discussion forums began. Originally it was considered the height of rudeness to divert a thread the least iota from its original topic. The reasons are easy enough to see. Early Usenet groups and so on were difficult to navigate. Navigation through a thread, and across a forum, took time and effort. Online connect time was expensive and, depending on one's access method, often limited by hard stop times, so every minute online needed to count toward a more or less single-minded goal. Today, most if not all of those issues have gone away. Cost and availability of online connect time are no lo…

Like sweet tea and hospitality, Waffle House is a southern staple. But instead of sticking to its typical routine of providing cheap breakfast foods, the 24-hour eatery is delving into the world of mail delivery. On Tuesday, Waffle House announced its new partnership with Roadie, a month-old app that hopes to become the “Uber of package delivery.” The app allows drivers to make money by delivering packages to places along their routes, typically the package’s intended destination. But now when app users find a driver heading in the general direction of their yet-to-be delivered package, the driver can deliver the item to one of Waffle House’s 1,750 locations in 25 state…
