I know the US and Canada have their own wildfire problems at present, but France and Spain are just as bad. According to the BBC, one wildfire is only 9 miles away from the south of Bordeaux. 220,000 people have already been evacuated. And the temperature is predicted to rise in the next few days. Fires advancing on Madrid are "active and uncontrolled" although more slowly than in recent days. So far 105,000 have been evacuated in the country. A slightly bizarre situation whereby smugglers of cannabis, legal in Thailand, will only be fined if caught before departure from Thailand but will be imprisoned if caught on arrival in the destination country. The amount of smuggling to the UK perhaps partly explains why my Thai husband is regularly stopped for his bags to be searched at Heathrow. If we travel and walk together he tends not to be stopped.
