  1. clearly  they milked him off , one can only hope that he tipped boy property , not assuming that 800 is all inclusive.

One of our members / 1 mo Russian ? / while ago reported similar  attempt to milk him for higher off fee at BBB so new visitors beware and ask before you get hot and they see it

Eventually I believed that 800 baht is the off fee for "coyote" dancers, when they are offed before 11 PM. Although all could be discussed... :)

PS I saw these dragon dances video at FB of one of the said 800-baht coyote star

  2. Thanx Vinapu, it didn't come to my mind :)

But still would be nice if someone who can read Thai could confirm, please?

(Or maybe he is warning me, that 2017 could be unlucky to me, if I will not use Western Union to transfer some money to Thailand soon? 555)

  3. Nice story, Ggobkk, thanx for sharing - it's a ready script for TV episode and unique experience - you didn't plan to visit Vietnamese embassy during that trip, I suppose? :) And looks like Van was successful in making the day end memorable :)

  4. I will ask my bar boy friends as to their interpretation of nahm-wow and all its variants. Perhaps ask for a visual demonstration?

Perhaps, video recording would be nice, so we can catch all the details including tones and will not be confused by different transliteration :)

  5. So Christian could find a job, where his knowledge of Thai language and customs would be an advantage instead of trying to fit in rigid corporate system... Perhaps, he already doing such kind of projects and earns some income not being tied by corporate world. And I wish him luck

Regarding laziness - I think, we have different connotations and moral feelings about this word. Yes, for me most my Thai contacts are certainly 'lazy' (and I am a Russian, who have this laziness feature by Western eyes), but for these my Thai contacts it could be just 'sabai-sabai'... You have warm weather, a lot of fruits, two times per year you need to work hard to plant and harvest rice, but all other months you can just doing nothing... Why you should be worried about your rent due in 10 days? That is not now, just enjoy the moment, sabai- sabai :)

  6. Friend of mine (kind of ex-bf), a beach massage guy, always telling me "No customers, not same as before, no business".

Another friend, a farang gay guesthouse manager, always sounds different "Very good, we are fully booked" (the guesthouse is located 300 m from the beach with "no customers").

So at the second time, after listening these 2 contradicting statements, I decided to sum up them both and divide at 2. To get a real average :)

Jason1975: there are good chances that the boy was trying to sell you sad stories to maximize his cash inflow. Although tips instead of second or third drink are much appreciated. As a small addition - it could attract evil ghosts, telling people how good your business is. And Thai ghosts are really evil.

DivineMadman: are you sure, they don't get a fraction from the off fee? Just asking, because I am not sure (or it could depend on a particular bar / salary agreement).

My experience here is from Pattaya, but in 2012 during long repeated offs from Copa bar, when we came inside to pay the off fee the guy was getting a fraction from the money I paid to the bar. Again this April with the inflated off fee case in BBB (the guy and bar insisted that his off was already 800 as a coyote and I repeatedly paid 500 - the same as four months before in December-2015). When at 4th day I gave money to the boy to pay his off, he took a 100 baht note before handing the money over to a manager.

So I think boys might get some from off fees - as a fraction or as a part of their salary scheme... But it's just my guess.

  7. As I saw, fresh and bbboy use heavily photoshopped pics. And many freelancers just use not their own pics, mostly of Thai and Vietnamese models. Are there any good tactics to deal with it?

  8. While I think it's a good thing to keep your promises (or at least to inform other people that you've decided to quit), just as an intercultural observation: isn't it Thais, who prefer not to answer Line messages? To avoid any smallest open contradiction?

As I have learnt, such non-answering means "no" in Thailand. Thus such non-answering should have a very clear meaning of "no" in Thai social communication system, shouldn't it? (I am not trying to take any side, just exploring Thai ways of thinking)

Or because the promise was made by a farang (and we all know: farang people are strange people and they do unexpected things) and the promise is so miraculous, so conventional rule "non-answering = no" stops working in this case?

  9. The first real shock was at the immigration at Don Muang. No airport staff was there to guide people to the correct counter.

Guess what, hordes of rural Chinese maintainers parked themselves there. What a long wait...I started and finished this message and there are 20 irritating maintainers in front of me... when can I get my stamp?

Yep, two arrivals that year to Don Muang - the same picture :(

  10. "Enjoy your vacation, loosen up a bit and never forget you are on vacations, smile a lot and don't get upset over cost of drinks in PTY,"

    Vinapu, above.

Some of the best advice one can get for visiting Thailand. Much of it isn't going to make sense to newbies, so just go with the flow even if it costs you a few dollars.

Not sure what is a point in commenting a fact descriptive post regarding a certain bar with general behavioral advice. Departure to BBB with already existed targets/regulars there indicates I am quite aware about Pattaya's stage.. But is up to you, of course.

Continue with A-bomb: next day, 22:00 only, the tout promises "today many boys and many customers inside" - and actually he is correct, but only 4 boys left at the stage, about 4 were sitting with customers, and manager was tipsy and happy :) No signs of those 2 interesting boys from yesterday, but perhaps they were sitting with customers. So it's "hit or miss"

  11. I know this practice from Toy Boys (putting their cutest outside, I fell for it long ago and went inside, hoping they would be on stage; they might not even go with customer or demand above average tips)...

Me too. So know I just ask them at the Soi - if he is willing to go with me and pay the off fee without going inside
