Mick44 reacted to reader in Remembering the glory days of Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport
    From CNN
    By Maggie Hiufu Wong,

CNN —  “Goodbye, Kai Tak, and thank you.”
It’s been 25 years since Richard Siegel, Hong Kong’s then-director of civil aviation, bid farewell and turned off the lights at Hong Kong Kai Tak International Airport. On July 6, 1998, the city’s main air hub closed its doors, moving services to the bigger and swankier new Hong Kong International Airport in Chek Lap Kok.
The retired facility was rechristened as Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, the largest cruise terminal in town, in 2013.
The 25-year-old “new” airport has pulled off numerous achievements – it’s frequently named one of the top five airports in the world. It’s a repeat winner of Skytrax’s World’s Best Airport Dining award. It’s been the world’s largest cargo airport every year since 2010, except for 2020.
Yet fond memories remain for those who had a chance to fly through the old Kai Tak, or simply witness the remarkable airplane landings that made it famous.
Before its closure in 1998, Kai Tak (the first recorded flight from the site took place in 1925) was regarded as one of the most difficult airports in the world for pilots to fly in and out of.
As it sat in the middle of Kowloon City, with a runway protruding into the sea, landing in Kai Tak was a hair-raising event even for experienced pilots.
Former Cathay Pacific Airways’ general manager of operations andnow-pilot instructor Russell Davie has more than 30 years of flying experience.
“As a pilot, it was totally unique. It was the only major airport in the world that required a 45-degree turn below 500 feet to line up with the runway, literally flying between the high-rise buildings, passing close to the famous orange and white Checkerboard Hill (also known as Kowloon Tsai Hill) as you made that final turn toward the runway,” he told CNN Travel.
Daryl Chapman, a teacher and aviation photographer from Britain who has lived in Hong Kong since 1987, spent countless hours photographing the amazing scenes of large aircraft swooping in over the Hong Kong skyline. (See a gallery of his work above.)
“Kai Tak was very different to most international airports because it was right in the city,” recalls Chapman. “Lion Rock (a prominent hill in Hong Kong) blocks the standard straight-in approach; thus planes had to make that special turn over Kowloon City while landing on runway 13.”
“This was quite a challenge, especially in strong wind conditions,” Davie says. “As Cathay pilots, we had plenty of practice and became very adept at flying the approach.
“The approach was quite a challenge for pilots from other airlines, especially in more demanding flying conditions, as they might only come to Kai Tak once a year.”

Londoners account has just resonated with me as it has similarities to my own experience.
My first visit to Thailand was in year 2001 in company with another gay friend. We had been discussing going on holiday to Spain in a gay pub when a stranger joined our conversation by recommending we go instead to Thailand, specifically to Pattaya, where he said we could enjoy lots of sex with attractive young guys. He spent some time giving us essential travel information such as flights, transport, where to stay, etc etc, at the conclusion of which we decided to take his advice and go a few weeks later.  For us it was an incredible three weeks, not just for the sex (there was plenty of that, specifically with twinks from the BT and Sunee gogos) but as for Londoner the sights, sounds and smells of the exotic atmosphere, and also for the low cost with £1 purchasing 70 baht. I can’t remember whether we actually went to the beach on that trip - the bars and boys were probably too much of a magnet, but I certainly took advantage during subsequent visits when beach pickups were an additional source of boys  for my bed, rather than the less than ideal sea and sand at Dongtan.
Short visits to Bkk did later in my life feature including several to Babylon, but as a twink lover Pattaya has always been the place for me, despite visits over the years to a few of the well known other beach resorts.

The last time I went to the “gay” area near the toilet block about 6 months ago it was still a rather pleasant place to spend a couple of hours, but compared with former times the “gayness” was very much diluted. In between the predominately groups of older farang men was a few str couples and even the occasional single lady.  I’ve nothing against the latter but I’m bemoaning the decline of what was an asset for the gay community and  tourists like me. The only Asian boy was the occasional one sat with presumably his daddy looking bored.  In former days a group of boys used to play volley ball by the waters edge displaying their lovely brown bodies wearing brief speedos.

When I first discovered Pattaya (year 2002 -2003) the Dongtan Gay beach was good for meeting boys underneath the umbrellas. They were easy to spot taking chairs near the end of the rows and walking occasionally to the waters edge. For a small tip you could ask one of the concession boy workers to suggest joining me (or us ) for a drink. That often led to fun in the waves or at a short time room.  Doesn’t happen any more.

I just found a couple of Thais on Twitter who review various massage places. All in Thai but the translator does a decent job. This was one of the places recently reviewed.

You enter at the cash desk and pay the entrance fee. Then you enter a very large locker room - the cute attendent will issue you a lock, key, and wrist band with your "lucky number" - which is used in the restaurant, pool side service, and with the 2 masseurs who are upstairs. The restaurant has a decent menu of both Western and Thai food. There are many types of smoothies available as well as beer and hard alcohol.
There are 2 pools - one for swimming and bathing and the other is lije a giant circular jacuzzi. All alongside the 2 pools are chairs and lounge chairs to relax and watch the sexy guys. Alongside the pool area, slightly elevated is the gym enclosed in a large glass room where you can watch your favorite cutie workout.
There was a steam room, sauna, bathrooms, and showers on the opposite side from the gym.
Upstairs are the 2 masseurs - and yes extras are available for a fee. This fee needs to be paid directly to the masseur in cash. The standard massage fee is charged to your "lucky number" that was given to you when you entered.
Above the massage floor are some cabin rooms for privacy, a dark room, bathrooms, and I saw more stairs that went up to an attic area - I did not venture up there.
Then there is the Hotel section of this complex, which was closed off as it will open next month in October.
So, action can be had by talking to the guys by the pool or in the gym. Or upstairs in the cabins or dark maze area. Also, you can arrange something with the masseurs - but for payment.

I went to the Sansuk Sauna today in Pattaya around 5pm - I can confirm that it is open.
73 baht Bolt taxi ride from Dongtan beach.
200 baht fee to enter - includes locker, 2 towels, and condom.  Bring your own sandals or flip-flops if you don't want to be barefoot.
There were about 15 customers, of which 6 of us were falang and the rest were Thai.
All of the Thai guys were in good shape - fit swimmer bodies. Perhaps only 2 were older Thais --> above 35 years old. The remainder were all younger.
I met Pun, the long time manager (perhaps owner ?). He said after almost 3 long years of being closed he is truly happy to be open since the 15th of September.
Staff wise, there are plenty, around 8 guys and some were good eye candy.  A couple of sexy Thais were working out in the gym.
I ate in the bar/restaurant. There is a good menu with Thai and Western food. There is also a wide selection of alcoholic beverages.
One masseur was on duty during my visit.
Let us support Sansuk and Pun.
    Enjoy,
    M.

    The shop is not important.
Walk past them all until you find a boy you want. Then go into that stop. If you dislike the shop, pay to take him home, and do it there.

I also like to travel light
this is is what I'm wearing when travelling to tropic.

Shirt ( I have 7 different colors but the same fashion, all purchased for 300-400 baht on Silom , Pattaya Noght Market or Talat Bobae along Saen Saep canal )
has 2 velcroed pockets ( velcro is great theft prevention tool )
I always take 3 one them , one is on me , one is drying and one ready to use dried already
shorts ( only 5 different colors, the same price and source ), 4 velcroed and 2 regular pockets at front and 2 velcroed on the back. I take only one
Always do my own laundry and no problem with either one to dry overnight. In case if does not  or in need of more formal dress ( no shorts at Grand Palace or Bank of Thailand Museum at Rama VIII bridge  for example ) I use long trousers I wear on the flight .
I have whole science as to what is distributed to  which pocket but that's different story.

No cringeing from me looking at those boys - they are super appealing. The one in the foreground of the second picture has a really nice hairstyle and would have been an off for me.

The Churchill boy was later a model in Private Boy Movie and was I believe one of its stars.
Spoon - what don’t you like about their hairstyles ?  They are usual for Asian guys 18 to 25.
I can’t remember exactly how long ago but I remember visiting and offing during one of my trips, then a couple of months later it suddenly closed. Perhaps it was raided for reasons of underage or drugs ?

This is a very interesting survey and I am not surprised to see that meetings and offs after the first one usually prove to be better. That has by and large been my experience when I have had boys for multiple nights. The reason I think in my case is that I pay relatively well so from the second  meet the boy will give good service  knowing he will be well rewarded for pandering to my sexual tastes.
in recent years I have visited Pattaya for multiple short periods whilst about 10 years ago I was able to stay for a couple of months. During those trips I settled after my first week, with one boy rather than “ do the butterfly”,  with him being a live-in boyfriend. Although I did occasionally spice things up with threesomes.
Looking back I believe those periods were the best periods of my adventures in Thailand.

Browsed GR this morning where I noticed this boy and contacted him. Exchanged messages to and fro as he didn't seem to want to give me his telephone number. He later said he had no idea where the Jomtien Complex was. Typical Thai boy - they seem ignorant of geography apart from the immediate area where they work. I told him to take a motor bike and I would meet him outside. He turned up minus ID card but I just walked him through the lobby to my room.
Turns out he works in a hotel and speaks fair English. Supplements his small wage.
Small twinkly boy aged 19. Nice smooth body. Small rock hard cock. Good session 4.5/5.00.

Mick44 reacted to numazu in Bangkok/Pattaya June-July 2016 Trip Report: To Butterfly or not to Butterfly
It was slightly raining that night and since my friend and boy had the cab already, we decided to take the cab with them, and assumed we would be getting off first on Rama IV before heading over to Soi 14.

Coming from Surawong Rd driving towards Rama IV, if you make a right turn on Rama IV, you'll end up on the other side of the divided road across from Crowne Plaza. The driver was supposed to flip a u-turn on Rama IV once we hit Silom Rd, but instead of a u-turn, he just made a right turn, and continued on to Soi 14 on Silom. He made a u-turn on Silom, dropped the boys off, and then made our way back to Rama IV, making a left turn, and the hotel was just at the direct left side of the street. 80 baht.

TL;DR: Dream Boy Thai Guy didn't know where Crown Plaza was at first so directed cab driver to go to Soi 14 first.

Yes, the Crowne Plaza, if you can afford it, is the best (Western-style) hotel closest to Soi Twilight for me, thats why I book it every time I visit. No one even check boy ID in that place. It's the only place I've ever stayed to be close to Soi Twilight apart from the Holiday Inn Sathorn, which is a bit of a walk. No problem taking boy(s) in.
