speaking about tips in Thailand, I wonder whether others have impression that Thais despise getting tips in coins.
Pretty strong word, I know, but on more than one occasion I was asked whether I have 20 baht banknote instead or when left 20-40 baht under the pillow it was left there uncollected even if on previous day the banknote /s/ left in the same place disappeared.
Not surprising to be honest, Coins are for beggars or for dead people
Only yesterday my BF had to apologies to the Taxi driver for handing him 55B in beer change to pay the tollway...
You only give your shrapnel to beggars.... or put a coin in the mouth of a dead person
This is also the same reason why handing a mamasan 5-10B can cause a LOT more resentment than intended

I did meet up with a few guys I new for hookups and the hotel walked them to my room.
To each his own, but for me that is degrading for both the boy and you as a paying customer.... Sounds more like a conjugal prison visit!

Thanks for the report Musgrave
Screwboys - one of my favourite places - mainly Viet boys, lots of twinks - learned that if you bought a bottle of whisky, mixers were free - but if you didn't finish it and left it for the following night, mixers for the second night were 1000 thb. Maybe it was just a con and in retrospect should have just bought another bottle of whisky - but you live and learn. Still didn't dampen my enjoyment at the venue
Do you remember what you paid for the original mixer setup and what brand & size it was?
Also can the boys (or staff) drink for free or is there a charge?
I was there last month and quoted 1500 for a "bottle" of 100 pipers and all mixers free ... which i thought was pretty reasonable (cheaper than pattaya!) especially as there were 3 of us
It was my last night andwe were leaving at the time so never got to go back and actually open a bottle!
A few days earlier we were quoted for similar in Zaab Cafe (in Pattaya) and the whiskey that turned up was only 500ml and the "free" mixers stopped after 4 bottles and a tiny bucket of ice!

Generally I am quite good at budget managing most of the day - but then the bars close and someone suggests going to Nab - and then you find you are hosting a small party of smiling, dancing lads
My memory doesn't seem to recall you requiring much coercion to go to NAB!
I seem to remember myself and Condo trying to get you to go home after the place had closed!

The link in your signature is still not working, works fine when I manually remove the www.

Christian should be able to sort that in his signature

I would rather pay the $20-30USD visa fee in Cambodia, Vietnam or Laos... than get a free Thai visa and be discriminated against by racists in Chakran....
The above post from Chakran (if indeed it is from them) is pure racism and deserves nothing but distain...
Meanwhile TripAdvisor reports call the place a seedy dive full of rent boys!
Are the foreigner fees charged equally to Chinese and Asian visitors.... or is it simply an anti-whites policy?

Most rooms that i have stayed in the Raya have overlooked soi twilight, they were also adding new rooms on my most recent visit, so i doubt they are to be demolished as part of this redevelopment
If that's the case then the new development site on the Dicks cafe side will be a pretty narrow and long stretch, can't see it being useful for any kind of development like a shopping center, condo or even a hotel without taking in the Alley and the Hotmale side of the street

When I first came to Thailand in 2000 the only Females seen in any BT bars were Madam Jims Mother and Nieces
Back then they were gay bars, and for me they are still gay bars... which now tolerate women

There was a post on this on FB on Sunday and apparently the original "raid" was a result of a rape allegation at the sauna.
There were some clips posted and the place looked heaving with loads of guys in micro towels

Thanks for the pic Jasper
My only comment is: Facists!

Balcony used to always shut up shop for the 3 days of Songkran... and it was the staff that ran the premises on those days on a sort of sub-contract basis... I presume using alcohol that they purchased themselves.
Seems that this year the Owners have decided to cash in the action...
BTW no matter how many security guards they put at the entrance... there will probably still be plenty of water being thrown from Ice buckets and plastic bottles etc... So its a lose/lose situation:
Those that want to play water won't be allowed to do so freely... Those that want to stay dry will get wet regardless
-
if I was you I would take the morning flight that arrives in at 5pm
Even if it take you an unlikely 3 hours to get to the Raya, you can still go and have a few hours out on the town
(Better still take the Airport rail link, you could be in your hotel room by 6.30)
If you arrive at 11pm, then the night is already over by the time you get to Silom... so you have effectively lost the first night of your holidays

I can't read Thai, so I generally look at the number in the top left of the posters to get the date
In Aussies pic above it seems to indicate that there will be a Morlam this Friday March 9th and that it will be on 3rd road
I then usually ask a Thai to translate the rest and estimate whether it will be a big/popular night or just average...i.e. are you going to see the Thai equivalent of the Rolling Stones or One Direction!
The Morlam companies are usually pretty good at removing their posters as soon as the even has happened... Or actually its probably the promoters that remove them in order to get the posters for the next concert up

My experience of Cambodian workers in PP and SR is that they definitely speak better English than the average Thai worker
However the Cambodian boys in the bars not always so...
In terms of their bodies, in general I have found that the Cambodians do a lot more "manscaping" around their nether regions compared to their Thai counterparts, they also seem to have less hair in general down there...
To counter that nature gave them much thicker facial hair and a lot are capable of growing strong beards.... which can cause beard rash and sore lips for an unsuspecting customer!
(note that the above is a generalization, but my findings are based over a fairly large sample size!)

I seem to remember a case 15+ years ago where the dead body of an Asian man was found in Pattaya but had no identification.
The Police concluded that the dead man was Cambodian.
Why?
He was wearing no underwear under his jeans - and no Thai would dream of going out without wearing their underwear!
Thai Logic!

I would have thought that the Venue was more famous for its Thai showboys than Cambodian Boys
There is also loads of other bars:
M2M - another showbar
Big Kiss - mostly thai guys
4T - mostly Thai guys
Man Bar - mostly Thai guys
BC bar - mostly Cambodian guys
Elysium
Moon Bar
Question Mark/QM bar
Tommys Place - has some shows
Plus I'm sure loads of others that I have never spotted or entered

Sinlapin Issan had usurped Tumnan Issan As the no.1 indoor issan pub on my last trip back in January
Due to its relatively close vicinity to Sunee it has managed to attract a huge amount of customers
Note they are pretty strict on ID, so no guys under 20 are allowed inside... so I am guessing Tumnan issan still attracts the 18/19 year olds
It is discussed in this thread:
http://www.gaythailand.com/forums/topic/11436-superstar-esan-isaan-club-south-pattaya/
And a bit more extensively here:

Do i like it? YES! Even held my birthday party there!

I doubt anyone can tell you a date this far in advance
It seems to be more if a word of mouth thing. As soon as 1 event is finished the banners for the next one go up
I can guarantee that there will be on April 18th for Wan Lai/Songkran, so the signs for May will no doubt go up after that
Note that there are 2 (main) morlam fields in Pattaya now...
- The old site next to TumnanChon- where yourself, myself and Smiles went many many moons ago!
- The one on what used to be the site of X-Zyte disco

Thanks Funwmen for an excellent trip report so far!
What a pity the trip report is buried down in the bowels of the forum and is probably not been seen my most posters
You might want to post a message on the main forum with a link to this thread... so others can also enjoy your adventures!

Are the ownerships Sun and Moon bar connected?
On the few times I've been to Sun bar I've never seen anyone in Moon bar.... I just presumed that the boss of Sun bar kept it open to avoid having a dark space opposite his bar?

Three Vietnamese boys known to be working in the bars. This is not zero, but calling it plenty is pushing it.
In Pattaya, my numbers look like:
1 Laos population = 6.76 million & about 30% of my offs are from Laos
2 Cambodia population = 15.8 million & about 20% of my offs are from Cambodia.
3 Vietnam population = 92.7 million & exactly 0% of my offs in Pattaya are from Vietnam.
Of course, after I make selections based on appearance, body language etc, I just off whatever nationality he is & there is no filtering.
Incidentally, what are "toliet boys" ?
Toilet boys are toilet attendants.... The guys that hang around the toilets giving unwanted neck massages when you are at urinal or try to sell you toilet paper if you go to the cubicles
They usually have a rice cooker to give you a heated towel to dry your hands after you have washed them.

I know of a Viet boy working in Cupidol & Prisma (Both were at my B'day party last week)
Also know one working in Power Boys and of one that works in Toyboys
In addition most of the "toilet boys" in Tum Nan Chon and Tum Nan Issan are Vietnamese
So plenty Vietnamese guys in Pattaya!

Thanks for the clarification Michael... your original description read to me like the Hotel Security followed you and your guests (no doubt carrying walkie talkies, wearing ill fitting suits and with torches!) to your hotel room
This sounds like a far more civilized arrangement!
Actually myself and BF spotted a farang and a gaggle of boys in an open top Golf type cart whilst we were driving through Royal Cliff/Pranumnak area 10 days ago.... yourself and your entourage perchance?
