Then for some strange reason after 1999 it goes down (before the mobile phone era, before the gay app era).

Thaksin came into power in 2001 and started the "social order campaign"

Purachai the interior minister, forced bars and nightclubs to shut by 1am, banned anyone under 20 from entry, prohibited the sale of alcohol after midnight, and corralled nightspots into a restricted number of areas in each town and city.

These new laws lead to months of police raids on bars and saunas, extra judicial killings and were the start of the decline in Thailand nightlife

As for the jobs that were previously unavailable.... in 2001 there was no family mart and the 7-11s were usually 500 meters apart (unlike todays 50), there were no mega malls or cinema multiplexes. SF cinema pays 14000 a month with decent working conditions (and free movies!) That sure beats selling your ass on a gogo floor with no guarantee of an off (or even a drink tip) at the end of the night.

As Bucknaways guide friend points out the buys can still freelance on the apps when rent us due or there is a birthday party or morlam coming up

I think perhaps the boys are going back to their hometown for songkran?

Don't think so. At same time upstairs there was 50+ boys in Lucky boys and at least 40 in Fresh Boys 2 (who seem to have stolen a lot of the screw boys crew) and similar numbers in Bannna boys

  3. I was in DBP last Thursday night and they only had 3 boys and maybe 9 customers

The waiter kept promising that there would be more boys coming soon. But none arrived

The show started after 20 mins of the same 3 guys dancing and it was the usual over the hill faded muscle guy dancing to "sex bomb" or a similar shit song

Next act was a fat Ladyboy that stripped off her clothes to reveal an average sized erection and then started to pull a kilometre of pink ribbon out of her ass... Naturally I left at that point and doubt I will be back

  4. as Vinapu and Witty post above, body and sign language are often enough

If the boy can speak a small bit of English, then only ask him closed questions

e.g. "Would you like short time or long time?" "Are you top or bottom?" are both BAD as the answer will inevitable be an ambiguous YES or NO

Better to as them "We go long time, ok?" "I fuck you, ok?" work much better as there is on ambiguity about the answer

  5. Is the hotmale directly opposite DB open already?

    Gogo bar or beer bar?

I see it reported here that lucky boys is an amalgamation of XB and Classic or that it's a re-imagination or either. Anyone comment on which it actually is?

Has anyone been to Banana boys on Soi 4 yet (the new Fresh boys?)

I'm looking forward to seeing all and reporting real life when I arrive on Thursday!

  6. Por used to work in Kawaii boys in Pattaya back in his early days, but seems to be based in Bkk these days and selling his clips via Twitter on LINE

Interestingly Pablo Bravo uses condoms on some of his boys and not on others....

I wonder is it that they refuse to go BB with him, or he refuses to go BB with them after he tests them

e.g. Por and Pablo movie had condoms, but the Por and Lithuanian guy on same site was filmed in same room (same day?) and was BB

  7. I think you are being unfair with your synopsis Londoner, neither side is whiter than white

The yellow shirts (PAD) shut down the airports for a week in late 2008 and the Army refused to follow orders to remove them forcibly. After a Constitutional Court dissolved the three parties of the government coalition the PAD disbanded, and a lot of the government MPs defected to the democrats who formed a new government. The Yellow shirts were allegedly paid by the Rich

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People's_Alliance_for_Democracy

The red shirts (UDD) were mostly paid by Thaksin to occupy central Bangkok for 2 months (March - May 2010) in protest at his assets being frozen. When the army tried to remove them after 2 months the Red shirt militants set fire to the Stock Exchange , banks, at least two shopping centres (including Central World at the Red-Shirts main protest site), a TV station, a cinema which burnt to the ground. The total number of burnt buildings was 35:

  8. Anyone had any experiences staying in either of these 3?

    Silom One:

Seems to be a quite small hotel (10 rooms) but excellent location right at the BTS exit:

    Evergreen Laurel:

Supposedly 5*, Not as good a location, and looks quite olde worlde. But they have excellent prices around my dates for 70SQM suites

    Tawana:

Right opposite Tarntawan/Glitz, so has a decent location, but are they guest friendly? I seem to remember hearing that their security were quite militant in the past?

  9. Jasper is correct, and it's also a long holiday weekend in Thailand so Sat 13th is the mega expensive night

Z909, I knew you stayed in the Pula recently, but I was looking for people's contrary opinions, as it gets some pretty scathing reviews on TripAdvisor... And feels to be pretty poor value at €111, even of it is super high season and smack in the middle of the action!

  10. Good timing with the bump on this post!

I am desperately looking for somewhere to stay in BKK on 11-14 April and all of the usual haunts are either sold out or on my blacklist

D Varee Express Pula Silom   is one of the few places that is showing availability (even though its an ever increasing €79+€93+€111 rip off for each subsequent night)

Has anyone else stayed there and have any comments (incidentally I can get the Novotel Fenix or Holiday Inn cheaper than above - if anyone has comments on those as alternates)

The rooms that I have seen in Red Planet look pretty small to me

    To Add to readers list:

Glitz- no lift, very very low bed which curves downwards and is difficult to get in ad out of. Has safe. No soap or shampoo in the bathroom dispensers. Didn't bring a joiner, but night reception didn't seem like they would care. Great AC. A bit noisy from road

Rose - Small rooms, awful AC, joiners ok. No noise.I would never stay again

Raya - jewel in the crown of the area, if only they had availability on all my dates!

Tarntawan - everyone knows here, but should comment that the AC is brutal. It has 2 modes, OFF or ON ad nothing in between. I would never stay again

D Varee Bally Diva - great location next to DJ. Pig ignorant staff. Windows that don't close and allow in mosquitoes. mediocre air. Death trap lift. I would never stay again

Somewhere near the top of the rules list is:  NEVER pay in advance.

The only exception might be when dealing with a reputable business, such as some of those operating in Tokyo, where all fees are paid to the bar before leaving the bar.   No further money changes hands after leaving the bar.

One key exception to this rule is that customers from some ethnic backgrounds are often charged the tip in advance before they leave the bar, although this is only usually true on their first off.

If you are a newbie, don't feel insulted if the mamasan tries to do this, they are just taking care of the boy as oftentimes new customers think (claim!) that they thought the off fee was the only payment due for the boy.  An upfront tip means less hassle when the off is over and the customer refuses to pay any tip.

Of course this is not for all ethnicities,  just those that have garnered a bad reputation from past behaviour of previous visitors

Biggest delay is waiting for luggage...

    Agreed!

I can only remember 1 visit where my bag was out before I cleared immigration

Even when flying Biz the bags are no quicker, so all the fast track will do is give you more time sitting and waiting in front of the baggage carousel

BTW Screw Boys is open till at least 2am...

So worst case land at 23.00, Clear Immigration and Collect baggage by 00.00, Taxi, check-in and quick wash completed by 1am

Still gives you an hour in SB

Best case you are in by 00.30 and have time for a quick peak in another bar before hitting SB!

  13. I guess that the guys barely discussing the punters must be a BKK thing

I know that BenG1000 is not going to Pattaya (this trip)...But for sure in Pattaya every boy in the bar will know exactly what you did in bed, how big your cock is, how much you paid, where your hotel is and if you have any peculiarities within 30 mins of the boy leaving your room!

Once you take a Hornet sub out here, do they carry on letting you use it back in Europe at the same rate ?     I guess they have no choice.

Yes it continues on for 12 months

Just be sure that you cancel the sub renewal before it's due (e.g. 360 days) as it may renew at the full rate if you are not in Thailand at the time

  15. The subscription rate for Hornet and Planet Romeo whilst your GPS location shows  you are in Thailand costs a fraction of what it costs in farangland

E.g. I paid €26 for a year of hornet and $15 for a year of Planet Romeo during my stay last July. Have been to Thailand 3 times since and the subs are still going well and worth investing in

In hornet it blocks the advertisments and gives much better filters to show you who is actually online at that very moment

On PR it has the hide visit option. Especially useful if you are trying to hide from a stalker type guy (or like to stalk and view a profile multiple times!)

It's a pity that it's impossible to block anyone on PR without them clearly seeing that you have blocked them!

Blued is quickly becoming the 2nd most active app in Pattaya these days.... Whilst hornet is still the busiest

But all things above considered, I still met more guys from Grindr on last months visit!

  16. @DivineMadman I didn't try and piss in anyone's punchbowl. I was simply pointing out:

    1. There is much better value in Bkk away from the international chains, I never mentioned projection or anything else, that YOU are projecting onto what I said!

    2. Expectations change when the boy arrives in a hotel, suddenly the 2500 ST that he agreed with you at the bar feels cheap when he arrives at the 8000B a night hotel (W being 8000, Raya being the 3000 option), this in turn may lead to a lesser performance as they are feeling short changed. Of course this is not every boy, but with some it happens

    3. On the bar point I simply pointed out that as the OP has already stated he is a bottom he would have better luck in Screw boys for finding a top twink type guy

Seems you are very tetchy this morning, the OP is a newbie and I think its only fair that he receives balanced advice of all our combined experiences
