Nothing compares to the Caribbean, Hawaii, etc. Brazil's proximity is huge deal for me yet I'd rather improving my Spanish and not adding Portuguenol to it.

Uruguay has always been more expensive than Brazil, but coming from the U.S.A. with dollars and a good retirement I can have a good life and great medical services. I'm going to be there for a couple of years once all my business here are done.

Have you already spent some time in Uruguay?   I prefer Punta del Este to Montevideo.

I guess I’m just not understanding, if you are able to retire anywhere, why you would choose Montevideo..

could just as easily be depicting a master class in Brasilian drag.

Indeed, the queens of Bar Fama are true masters of their craft.  One can hardly believe the elegance, class, and charisma they exude, all the while maintaining total sobriety.

I think he/she/it is saying to the guy whose ballcap shows bottom frame, "Blowie for 30, half'n'half 50?"

Lol.  She did disappear into the blackout room later in the night, perhaps taking advantage of total darkness to suck off unsuspecting guys..

I agree it’s rougher trade but “guys who suck you off don’t have a knife to stab you after..” is a little over the top! it is a bar with security, and you taxi uber to the place and back! no problem!

Yes it’s a little dramatic...but some of the hustlers there have what I would call “crazy eyes.”

It’s a little bit of a walk on the wild side.  For some, that’s what makes it thrilling...

I just think any discussion of Bar Fama should come with a strip of yellow caution tape, especially for first-timers to Brazil and those traveling alone.

Got one towards the end of the evening who was smoking hot, but a dud in the sack. clearly wanted me to get off in <5 minutes so he could collect his money and go. Is a stopwatcher worse than a clock watcher

Unfortunately this is all too common at 117, especially if they think you are only in town for a few days and aren’t likely to be a long-term client.

Did the garotos ask you how long you plan to stay in Rio?

there were 3 or 4 guys that looked like sauna guys not “skinny rough trade”, and while i would say most were smoking pot or something else there were a couple of guys that we’re fairly hot guys!

I can’t imagine an attractive sauna guy would be interested in 30 real tricks when they can make 4 times that at Lagoa or Fragata.  The time I went I did not see a single sauna guy there...of course every night is different.

Bar Fama is in an area known as crackolandia.  Many of the guys are noticeably high.  I did see one confrontation between a hustler and a client.  The hustler was yelling something in a clients face and it looked like he might attack him.  The client looked terrified.

PopeFrancis is shocked that a hustler would sell himself for 30 reals, but guess what the cost of crack is in crackolandia?  If you guessed 30 reals you would probably be right.

I’m not saying you couldn’t have a good time there, just tread carefully..

I do find the idolization interesting though...But that says more about the idolizer than the person being idolized...

I mean, nobody is *literally* building dick shrines in their back yard to worship tomcal (at least I hope not, I’m kind of curious where that picture came from).  I’m pretty sure latbear4blk posts were all tongue in cheek...

And I was pointing out that ANYONE can have that, since it is "bought and paid for"....  There's really nothing special about tomcal, although I DO find his life "interesting"

Dealing with garotos can actually be HARDER than it seems, especially MULTIPLE garotos at a time.  :ike:  There is definitely a learning CURVE involved.  Someone going to Rio for the first time would NOT necessarily be able to pull off what tomcal does lol.

What... you mean to tell me your friend thought it was all about love? Tsk tsk..

The funny thing is I tried to tactfully warn him beforehand that marrying this guy might not be the best idea.

Then I found out he was telling other acquaintances that I must be “jealous” of his relationship.

No good deed goes unpunished lol!

When I later saw his highly dramatic facebook posts about crying himself to sleep after his Venezuelan husband dumped him, I felt a little bad for him, but not really...

    Damn you re cold! Lol

Haha, Solace Soul’s suggestion is amusing because this happens a lot in reverse.

As soon as 2 years passes and the foreigner gets permanent residency, the American gets coldly dumped  (sometimes not even a good-bye).

This happened just recently to a naive acquaintance of mine.  A handsome Venezuelan “fell in love” with him, and they got married.  Literally, at exactly 2 years the Venezuelan filed for divorce and won’t even respond to a single message...but he does hear from the Venezuelan’s attorney who is demanding a large monetary settlement on behalf of his client.  The Venezuelan has also filed for food stamps and other government assistance, which the American is legally obligated to reimburse the government for - up to 10 years!

make sure you consult both US and Mexican lawyers to draw up an unbreakable pre-nuptial agreement

Do unbreakable pre-nuptial agreements actually exist?

There are various ways to challenge any pre-nup (i.e. the Brazilian can claim they don’t speak English well and didn’t know what they were signing, were coerced into signing, the agreement is materially unfair, etc.)
