Are wait times  for rooms at 117 really bad or does it only depend on the day?

It depends on the day. It’s worse on Tuesdays, which is Free Cabin Day. Other days, there usually isn’t much of a wait.

I never had to wait in a Brazilian sauna on regular days. On free cabin days, I never had to wait more than 30'.
I am not sure whether or nor is relevant, but I have never been in Rio during carnival or Christmas/NYE. I did visit Salvador for holidays, over there I never waited in a sauna.

I haven't been to a cabin in a sauna in a long time...once upon a time they were 1 hr rentals then reduced to 45 mins no idea what they are now. But the session could be until you get off which could be double charged for the cabin....it depends on what you negotiate with the guy.

I like to go back to my apt or out to eat , drink talk etc....then sex. Usually takes 3 hrs and this they know when going with me. Is why I like SP more, guys tend to live closer and not like rio, hours away which makes their getting home more complicated.

It's usually for the price of a programa outside the sauna...200 reis, plus whatever food/drinks

not all can do it, but most will...Saturdays are the most difficult, many make plans to go to parties with friends, bf or gf

One thing i noticed is after reading the Brazil posts here, is that everyone got a room in the sauna after they agreed on a garoto.
My question here is, can I not just take room keys in the beginning and then search for garoto?
Atleast thats what I did in Thermas Barcelona. I would get the locker & room keys at the same time.

Maybe it works that way with the average-looking guy of the street type, “boys next door” (which I already know from your past statements that’s your type, so no explanation required) or twinks, but I know VERY few of the machos / muscle boys (my type) who would agree to spend time wining and dining, then socializing at the apartment — or even worse, staying overnight!, followed by sexo — with a client for the same price of a 30-40 minute sauna programa. That’s almost unheard of. I am not going to say they’re not out there in that category, but it would be a very rare bird.

If you do that, and the management slows you to do so, you will pay from the moment you take the keys to the moment you return them.
But normally, the management wants to record both parties going in and out each room (using locker key numbers), for safety and damages purposes.

I've never been to Thermas Barcelona, but according to what you say they follow the same model as bathhouses in NYC. Over there, they have a menu with different admission fees granting you different access levels. You can pay for a fee that grants you a room and a locker for the entire time of your visit.
The model in Brazilian saunas is different. They have a flat fee that gives you access to a locker and all the public areas for as long as you stay. The rooms can only be rented for 30' times slots. (about 30, I do not remember exactly)
Theoretically, you could keep your key and the establishment would bill you the fee for each time slot with no differential discount. But this is only if the management allows you to keep the keys. I never heard of anyone doing so in Brazil. It is just a different business model that frames different sauna cultures.

    Have you ever asked?

I know we all have our own type, I don't see my type as average, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...but when I see the Muscle guys, I might as well be looking at a female.....no interest.
Works out well, we'll never be out for the same guy 😄

Well, yeah, I ask all the time. Like you, over time, meaning well over a decade at this point, I’ve developed a preference for dates ending up outside the saunas — mainly because I don’t really like the suites and I don’t like clock-watching.
And I just don’t find a whole lot of my preferred type who’d take your proposed deal at or around that rate. Even if you just throw in a nice meal, which we as clients consider an add-on not garotos, and then get to the meat of the matter (time spent at your apartment, plus sexy time), the bare minimum rate is going to definitely be more than a R $200 rate (right now, about what these kinds of guys are asking for 30-40 minutes inside the sauna). Some of them will accept a package rate that’s higher and includes all time spent, but some will want to start and stop the clock at all time spent — no matter if it’s just forks going in mouths, or dicks.
Yeah, the type of garotos that you go after are never on my radar, either. I am fairly strict in my attraction, and almost never waver (because, thankfully, it’s not necessary in Brazil!). But your type of garotos approach me a lot, and some of my client buddies are into the same, so I know that the ones I’m into do like to place themselves in a (slightly) higher price tier than the “boy next door types” — most likely because it’s what the market will bear for them, not just an ego trip.
I know only one (now former) sauna garoto who I deal with who would gladly take only R $200 for a night from me — but that always came with some complications. The rest are in a higher category — double, triple, and upwards. And to be honest, I’d feel some kind of way for only giving someone who is working for their living what amounts to $38 USD for a full night of their time.

Did you enjoy the visit to Salvador? For me the city is fascinating, but I got so many warnings from locals on the streets and in shops, I never felt comfortable. Had a good time in one of the saunas, beautiful men and mostly pleasant to be with. One tried to bully me into giving him more money and he made me nervous. I just kept telling myself he won't assault me in the sauna if it's a regular source of income for him. He was incredibly beautiful physically, but actually seemed sinister. From Salvador I went to Boipeba south of the city. It was the offseason and almost all the tourist places were closed. The only close to regular vehicle was a jeep owned by the police. Some ATVs and a farm tractor that towed a wagon... full of drunk young city fellows one afternoon catcalling the young women on the street, people were laughing at them so I don't think they were offensive. A few hours later it came back, they were all more or less passed out in the wagon. It was kind of surreal. These golden young men in shorts and sandals sort of piled on top of each other. This was just before the start of the 2014 World Cup and pre-tournament exhibition games had started. As I walked by one of the small homes, the front door, just a few feet from the street was open and I saw the whole family, mom, dad and maybe three kids squished into a tiny couch, watching a game. I was raised in the Canadian version of that working class family and everybody was poor in those days and we did everything together as a family, including watching Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday evenings, us kids all squished into the couch. Mom always made hamburgers and it was the only time we were allowed to eat in the living room. It's funny as I move into old age how a lot of old memories are coming back.

If you're not going for the Carnival experience, I suggest you avoid overlapping with it.  Prices go up a lot, traffic is impossible, everything is crowded.  In particular, since there are so many tourists, there is stiff competition for escorts and prices can be as much as 2 or 3 times higher.
So, if you don't care about Carnival, go in April or May instead.  The weather is not as hot but it's still a wonderfully warm 25-35 degrees.  Beaches and clubs are still packed with people but nothing like Carnival, where you can't even make your way through the crowd.
That said, Carnival *is* a unique experience, so if you don't mind the crowds, the heat, the noise, the traffic etc - then your plan sounds just fine.

You remind me of a similar experience! This was 1993, and I am known for having very bad memory, so I do not recall most details. I do remember the train was full and overcrowded. My friends and I were hanging out in between cars, and this boy saying he was 19 but looking like 15. We had no sexual interaction at all, but he was extremely insisting about visiting his home and staying to have diner and overnight. We did not dare to accept, despite his sometimes uncomfortable insistence.
Like you, I also regret not taking his offer.

It varies with the place and the person. But the amount is  generally much less than you'd pay for a similar experience in any big US or European city, so I never felt like haggling.  Even when the guy quoted an amount higher than I expected, the difference was not much and it was worth it.  Occasionally I felt it wasn't worth it and moved on -- there's always another guy.

    > You honestly have nothing to worry about
I didn't expect to see this sort of thing here.  The few countries that took COVID seriously from the start, including China, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand, have had fewer deaths per capita, than  countries that followed the Trump/Bolsonaro line -- two orders of magnitude less in fact -- AND their economies took much less of a hit. They are basically back to normal.

Another important mistranslation often used in saunas or just by garotos and semi-garotos is the Brazilian word “namorado”. In normal settings, it simply means “boyfriend”. However, when used by garotos (and often when used by those who don’t define themselves as garotos but behave as such anyway), it really means “sponsor”, “sugar daddy”, or the like, and the exchange is understood to mean “in order to keep me from working with others, I need to be kept.” Context, who the speaker is, and the one being spoken to are all very important in knowing the particular meaning of the usage of “namorado”.

The psychology behind overeating is a subject worth researching. For anyone who suffers from obesity, I highly recommend therapy as part of treatment. The brain plays a significant role in the gratifying feelings that food/eating conjures. Without therapy, it can be very difficult to change brain behavior, and a serious change in behavior is what is needed to succeed at weight loss.
Portion control is a challenge for many. It can be like asking a size queen to give up big cock and learn to love small. There is tremendous value in deliberately switching to smaller plates and bowls for everyday use, especially when eating specific foods.
The speed of your eating matters. Attempting to slow down the eating process is a beneficial exercise. Learn to savor eat bite and chew more slowly, as opposed to participating in a contest. It's especially important to do this when we think we are excessively hungry. Mind over matter. Slower eaters tend to eat less and they feel fuller for longer periods of time without risking over indulging.
A high fiber and high protein diet also helps to create a longer lasting feeling of full. When you study the effects of sugar on the human body, and then you learn that the body digests most carbs as sugar, you quickly realize how "you are what you eat" becomes relevant.
I applaud anyone who figures out a healthy way to lose excess, unwanted weight. As we get older, carrying extra weight can become a serious burden to our bodies and good, decent health. The heavier we are, the less active we will want to be. Overweight people tend to feel less motivated to raise their heart rate. If you say no to cardio, you run the risk of inviting all kinds of problems.
No one is going to live forever, but if you surrender to depression and eat to counter those feelings, you're more likely to create an unpleasant hole that may grow too deep to fix.
Our bodies need fuel. Learn what fuels are best and acquire the drive to eat for good health. Learn how to love yourself. When you love yourself, caring for your health becomes easier and more enjoyable.
