Would be disappointing if so. I wonder what the point would be? Might make it a little easier for employers to hire foreigners, but would entirely miss the market for digital nomads, and remote workers employed by non-Thailand based companies, who might like to spend a few months working in Thailand without worrying about VISA or tax issues.

No issues with the "bond" payment for Digital Nomads who don't have a steady income, but an option should be there for employed remote workers who have a regular salary coming in to prove they earn $xxxx per month.

I hope this is the case. In 24 hours or so I assume we will see the details. As with all things related to Thai Visas, I never get my hopes up. It always has, and always will be a pain in the ass.

The "digital nomads" seem to have been finding loopholes already so I don't know how many will jump through the application process hoops to get a 6 month visa.

I've heard that it's going to involve a "bond" payment of 300-400k, much like that retirement VISA. Also the requirement for a degree. I know a fair few remote workers, only 1 of which attended university. As you said, there are plenty of options already for remote workers. Mainly ED Visas, or more legitimately going through a company like UnionSpace and obtaining a work permit and paying tax.

  3. You get what you pay for I guess. Living in Pattaya I have seen rent prices increase, and I put that on the influx of Russians pushing up demand. Having said that, it's only about 20% higher then pre-covid, but 50% higher than post covid. 7-11 has seen massive increases, which doesn't effect me as much as it does the Thai people. Then again, Thai's are smart and use the markets, which have seen smaller price increases. I have to say though, the price of Durian is sickening. It shocks me to see Thai people flocking to these pop-up Durian shops and spending a fortune on the stuff. Luckily I can't stand it. The same can't be said about the boyfriend....

As for boys and bars, yeah it's getting very expensive for visitors. 100-120b in Jomtien Complex for a bottle of Chang is just wrong. I refuse to pay it. Walk 50 meters to the main road and the girly bars sell for 55-60 baht. It's just ripping off the gay tourists. Most expats I spend time with, who are generally not retired but work here, buy bottles of whiskey/vodka/gin and that keeps their prices down. You can also give boys drinks from your bottle, which doesn't class as a boy drink. But still tip them if you're getting them drunk!

As for boys, well, pay what you want. As said in another thread recently, there are some pretentious little queens running round demanding 4k ST. I'm sure some are paying it, good for them. There are other boys just as cute who will run to your condo for 1000 baht. Especially now in low season. It's very quiet around here.

I personally am spending a lot less time in bars as life is getting busy for me. Often when I do go out, I find myself in places that are not "boy bars" and have just as much fun. It's surprising how available boys are in Pattaya when you learn enough Thai to engage with them. That cute waiter in the restaurant you like, good chance he will come to your room after work!

Anyway, pay what you want or don't. It's your journey. Be like the Russians and sit on the steps of 7-11 with a bottle of Chang.

There' a very simple way to determine whether we can expect our date to be MB: ask ourselves if we'd have sex for free if our date looked like us.

    Look like us?
Damn. You lefties sure are discriminatory.

I don't know what you look like, but my Thai boyfriend is under 20, handsome, tall, kind and has a job far away from the gay scene. I don't pay for anything. Well I do like to treat him from time to time. But that's my choice.

    one more please.

I was at a birthday party last night and the conversation about all of the recent closures in the Complex came up.

Someone mentioned to add Dorothy's Showbar to the below list:

      Lambada

      BC

      Dolce Vita

      Dorothy's Showbar

    😒😪

Dorothy's Showbar is open. I spoke to one of the owners just last night.
There is a for sale notice on the outside TV. So if you're interested, you can buy it.

Tonight there is a big party at Dolce Vita. Toto was there in good spirits.

If rumours are to be believed, which is always a bad idea in Jomtien Complex, 4T Bar are planning to close. But that's just street chatter, as of tonight they are open.

As far as I am aware, there are 15 odd bars currently "For Sale For The Right Price". BC Bar was for sale for years before they decided to throw the towel in and shut up shop.

While some bars might not be doing well, I think it's important to remember that even in low season, some are doing just fine with their regular expats and sprinkling of tourists. It's not all doom and gloom.

I was in the Complex the other night and I noticed that DoubleShot was also closed.

    Is it temporary or permanent?

    Temporary.

I live in Jomtien, never heard of it.

Went to a straight area last night in Soi Bukhao, 9pm and every bar was full.

One hour later and I had to settle on a Bolt motorbike taxi as every Grab/Uber/Bolt were busy ok it's Saturday night

Now I'm thinking after waiting so long for a Uber and seeing the busy Soi Bukhao areas that my intended destination the Jomtien complex would be pumping

But....after arriving at the "Super walking street" it seems the only thing busy was the first restaurant on the right ?

Poisendon ? A lot of Thai /Asian guys maybe Chinese

As for the rest of the bars 10pm on a Saturday night many had NO customers whatsover

I was going to go into the Venue for their 10pm show but didn't want to be the only one in there 😂

It just shows the straight areas so busy and the gay scene..well what can I say 😲

Less boys around than say 10 years ago....please stop living in the past I say to myself 😊

It was the twins, Es and Em's birthday at Poseidon. Not Chinese people. They invaded cocka2 bar afterwards, were our group of 10-12 were sat.
You are correct that a lot of the complex was dead, and has been since the end of Songkran, but the well run bars are busy as usual.

While I love low season, the Complex has lost 2 bars in the last 2 weeks (Lambada and BC Bar). It's likely they won't be the last to shut up shop. There simply isn't enough expats and/or tourists to support 30+ bars in the complex.

If one needs to get change  it's always 7/11 nearby with necessities like water , soap or KY, in Bangkok also BTS stations are handy to do that ( to get change, not buy KY )

Spot on advice. The number of times I have bought a 7 baht bottle of water from 711 with a 1000 baht note? Hundreds of times.
The better advice is get a BOLT or a GRAB and not deal with the tuktuk/taxi mafia.

  10. I can't even remember the last time I saw a "sexy twink" at a Massage shop in Pattaya. 6 years ago?

There were a couple of cute freelancers before high season who ended up at Soda Massage in Jomtien Complex, but at this point you might as well be sticking a sausage in the channel tunnel. @floridarob can give you a full rundown on this issue, but on the flipside.

I wish you luck. I actually feel sorry for the tourists who come here now. I see some guys looking like Rick in the first episode of The Walking Dead, wondering what the fuck is going on. Then again, a good percentage of the tourist look like the zombies.

Pattaya will likely start on the 12th and finish late on the 19th, 13 & 14 will be busy, there will be a little lull around 16& 17 before things kick off again on 18th and the main day of the 19th.

If last year is anything to go by water play will not stop at 19.00 and will continue in selected pockets all night long or water/powder fights will break out spontaneously in venues as the night progresses.

I have already seen pics on FB of powder play starting in Jomtien Soi 12 late at night.

Bkk will likely start on the 12th and finish late on the 15th, Songkran lovers will move to Pattaya for a continuation of the fun

Water started on the 10th in Jomtien Complex. Insane! Luckily the chalk power didn't.

You are correct, I personally know a number a people who are, or already have came down from Bangkok to continue the insanity. While the 19th will be a blast in Jomtien Complex, I must admit I am looking forward to the 20th! My brother is even coming, but @floridarob wont be here to suck his dick. Oops.

not sure if You've ever watched Little Britain, I think of him whenever I see it...here a funny compilation of this skit they do, where he says he's the only gay in the neighborhood.....

Actually, growing up I always thought I was the only gay in the village. Then my brother happened.

    I'll bet he does....

I hate the fact I am replying to you. But here goes.

I'm currently on my second year of studying Thai language. Our lessons are are currently reading and writing Thai language.. I know the "alphabet" as such.
You have been coming to Thailand for over a decade or two. You still can't ask for more ice for your cheap charlie drink. I hope Trump wins and revokes your passport. Take note Bacardi has gone up 30 baht. I hope you sold enough pizza to cover the cost.

    Take care FRIEND!

    I beg to differ.

A Wai is a sign of respect and manners. Locals do it according to their traditional habits. Farangs may do it under the wrong circumstances, but EVERYONE involved knows he is doing it in order to show respect.

I Wai bar boys and almost anyone else I come in contact with. It's a polite greeting / farewell. And if it makes anyone laugh, so b it.

Why? In Thai culture they are below you.
Trust me, they laugh at people like you. The joy I get from studying Thai language lol.
Please tell us at what level of hands you greet bar boys? Chin? Nose? Forehead?
    Do you know their nationality?

Do you walk around in a 50 Baht "Pattaya" tank top?
