Reminder that whites are in the minority in Brazil, and blacks the majority.

Paris you are a wealth of misinformation! Here is highlights if the article on wthnic makeup of Brazil.

According to the 2010 census, there were more than 91 million White Brazilians, comprising 47.73% of Brazil's population.[23] White Brazilians are defined as people who are solely or mostly descended from European immigrants, although most Brazilians have some degree of European ancestry. Whites are found in the entire territory of Brazil, although they are most concentrated in the south and southeastern parts of the country;

Black Brazilians are defined as people who are solely, or mostly, descended from former African slaves, or immigrants. According to the 2010 census, there are 14 517 961 Afro Brazilians, which make up 7.61% of Brazil's population, although a larger number of Brazilians have some degree of African ancestry

The Pardos make up 43.13% or 82.3 million people of Brazil's population. The Pardos are a mixture of Europeans, Blacks and Amerindians. Brazil does not have a category for multiracial people, but a Pardo (brown) one, which may include caboclos, mulatos, cafuzos (local ethnonyms for people of noticeable mixed White and Amerindian, Black and White, and Amerindian and Black descent,

Number of whites is wildly overstated and the number of blacks understated, when, in fact, by American definitions, most of Brazil is black. Of course you must know this.

The late, great Senator "Big Jim" Eastland of Mississippi, on meeting President Anwar Sadat of Egypt at a diplomatic reception remarked in surprise to a companion, "My God, the man's a N----r."

The point being, of course, that American notions about race aren't particularly useful in Egypt.

And not in Brazil either, I suspect.

lol ??? ;)

Afro-Brazilian is a term used in the 21st century by some in Brazil to refer to Brazilian people with African ancestry. The term does not have widespread use in Brazil, where social constructs and classifications have been based on appearance. People with noticeable African features and skin color are generally referred to (and they identify) as negro or "preto ("black"). Another group of people of color, multiracial Brazilians orpardos, also have a range of degree of African ancestry.

In Brazil, a person's "race" is based primarily on physical appearance. In Brazil it is possible for two siblings of different colors to be classified as people of different races. Children who are born to a black mother and a European father would be classified as black if their features read as African, and classified as white if their features appeared more European.

The high level of European ancestry in black Brazilians through paternal line exists because, for much of Brazil's History, there were more Caucasian males than Caucasian females. So inter-racial relationships between Caucasian males and Sub-Saharan Africanor Native American females were widespread.

Err, stupid is as stupid writes?

Could it be...that Americans are that brainwashed by current propaganda in the US and can't see reality in front of their face even when they live in Brazil? Or are you just pretending for the audience?

The various definitions of the races in Brazil are a strategy of "divide and conquer" by the largely purely white elite that runs Brazil. The fact that "only" 7% is officially black or considers itself such is something that works to their advantage. This is actually something that was noticed by black activists and revolutionaries especially in Portuguese Africa, but also in Brazil. I'm not sure if you guys have any clue what's going on in the country that you visit or where you live.

This is the (ex?) richest man in Brazil. FYI most Brazilians don't look like this:

R3VO.jpg

Including most Brazilian ""whites"" But in fact most Brazilians (including people who look like him and run the country) have the pretense that "we're all mixed." Which is not true.

I'm not attacking or endorsing the Brazilian/Latin American system, but you have to understand what goes on there and it looks like everyone in the thread has heavy ideological blinders.

Wow!

This is the twilight zone.

firstly, as an african american, i can tell you that there is NO BETTER PLACE to be black tha in America... even if america is FAR from perfect.

We are the envy of blacks everywhere: latin america, europe & africa. They all wanna be african american, all appropriate our culture, our fashion, our music, all want that green card and on and on...

When i travel, blacks from all over the world treat me as a rock star just because i'm african american.

As for brazil racial harmony??????????

give me a break!!!!!!!!!!

The marginalization of the black underclass is bringing Brazil on the edge.

Brazil makes america look as peaceful as Switzerland. I meant out of control kidnapping that lead the ruling class to move around in helicopter in order to avoid mixing with the mortals. Drug wars that make the LA gangs looks like the smurfs (i mean they took over a prison and took down a chopper in downtown Rio), mini contration camp known as flavelas with brutal military police that makes US corrupt police looks like St Tropez bicycle riding neighborhood cops.

Come on now, let's be serious.

Finally, some reality.

The average income of an AFRICAN american family was $39,000 a year in 2010.

To put that in perspective, the average income of a family in Italy & spain are $26,000.

For all the things we complain about, blacks in america have a higher standard of living than the average white European.

The chant "NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE" turned out all right

My black friends in France are in no hurry to emigrate to America.

I don't know where in europe they live, and i dont think every black European would necessarily wanna immigrate here.

But i know that 2/3 of blacks in Europe lives either in france or in the UK. And anobody who's ever set foots in those country can see the very deep influence of hip hip music, fashion & street art on them.

The best selling music genre in France is hip hop, and their 2 biggest rap icon of their new century (booba & lafouine) both live in.... MIAMI.

The biggest/ONLY black movie star in France (Omar Sy) livesin LA.

How come as soon as they get some money, they move to the states.

As for they UK, anybody who's seen the MOBO awards (THE UK BLACK GRAMMIES) clearly knows what time it is. Its ashow celebrating black music in ghe uk and its is not dominated by african music,or reggae but hip hop & r&b.

It is clear that african american culture is taking over black culture worldwide.

I would love to compare their black journalists, writters, politician but again those countries seems incapable of producing a real black middle class, and even less a real black elite outside of music & sports.

EVERY major US cities has had a black mayor.

The US is the country with the most black nobel laureates, more than nigeria & south africa. Europe and brazil dont even have a single one.

We have more black doctors in the usa that in the rest of the world combined.

we have 46 sitting black member of congress (aka parliament as we speak).

we've had black ministers of jutice, defence, states and any prestigious position you can think of.

Again, the US is FAAAAAAR from perfect, but let's not compare the uncomparable. For all its fault, the usa

Interesting posts, Blackoch. Thanks.

A good reminder that, while there's plenty to complain about, every so often we get it right too.

I guess it's human nature, at least for most, to concentrate on what needs fixin' and that's of value, no doubt. But it sure can't hurt to count the wins from time to time.

Of course you're right, but the relations between the races are better in Brazil than in the US. Something to think about.

I repeat that it's very rare to see pure-bred white guys in the saunas. Being pure-bred white in Brazil almost necessarily means you come from middle class or more likely upper middle and upper class background. Ipanema is full of the hottest guys I've seen anywhere but they likely have more money than anyone or most on this forum. So they don't go to the saunas.

I remembered this post when I saw what the post- Dilma cabinet looks like.

Michel Temer is a crook and a tool of the right wing elite.

Brasil has taken a step back. A large step back.

Miss Tina "Nutbush City" Turner did follow her heart and moved to Europe decades ago.

I followed my heart and moved to Rio de Janeiro 7 years ago.

Oddly enough, the Mexican cabinet looks pretty much European too, though they define themselves against 'Indios' rather than Africans.

A undocumented friend of mine from Puebla self identified as European though I seriously doubt that a single conquistador could be found among his ancestors. For him it was a social/cultural/political status question.

I would think Cuba and the UK have more black doctors per capita (at least) than the US. Certainly African countries do.

You'd be right about Cuba and WILDLY wrong about the UK. Of course, Cuban doctors earn $38 US per month, unless they have been sold to another socialist country. Then they make $500 us per month. Take a look at the photos of President Obama's trip to Havana. You will see an old Black man in nearly all the photos. He is Lazo, a veteran of the Cuban revolution and the one and only Black member of the Cuban high command in 50 years. This is country that is 35% Black if you use Latin American definitions of Black and 67% Blck if you apply north American definitions. Barack Obama is not Black in Cuba or in Brazil.

I have noticed in a few posts that people are totally memorized by very traditional white looking males in the saunas scene who are often hard to find or extremely popular....

Brazil has such a rich mixed culture with Africans, Europeans and Natives that have combined to make some truly attractive people....overall some of the best looking people on the planet.

I have a few thoughts and serious questions...

For Americans and Europeans traveling to Brazil for their prospective countries, why is this a major turn on? There are TONS, literally tons of blonde haired or "traditional" looking white guys here in the states and in Europe.

Aside from Asians who may not see those type of guys on the regular, why would one travel all the way to Brazil to spend money in the saunas if that is your type?

One of the main reasons I tend to visit Brazil more than other countries is BECAUSE of the ethnic mix you find with the locals in and outside of the sauna.

I understand and respect all preferences, ie, some people are into twinks, I prefer athletic or muscular and some people like short, tall, whatever. (I tend to be attracted to the exotic looking guys that are found in Brazil)

I just would like more information on the whole phenom of ethnic "white" pure Brazilians vs. guys that look like them in the states that escort or dance. Even if not in the sauna scene, I know a guys who wouldn't mind a sugar daddy....

I would love some feedback on this...And thanks in advance

Badboy81-- I completely concur with what you wrote, and am glad that I read first before directly responding to the initial thread.  What you have here "hit the nail on the head" oh so succinctly and accurately!

I've been to Brazil countless times, including during the Obama years and I've always heard people and the media refer towards him as being a black guy. I don't know about Cuba though.

I was in Brazil when Obama visited with his family, he stayed at the Marriott in Copacabana and Michelle and the girls went to a samba school!

Did I read it correctly? ABC club in Sao Paulo explicitly say Chinese are not allowed to enter? (And can do so legally!?)... Wow...

I thought there is a racial harmony in Brazil.

Chinelo means flip-flops in Portuguese. The Portuguese word for Chinese is chinês.
