yes and no. My WhatsApp is registered under number I obtained when was travelling in Europe 3 if not 4 years ago and was given when purchased local SIM card. Card expired long ago but WhatsApp still works without any problems. Don't ask how it's possible but it does . No idea who will pick up phone when somebody calls that number

You might lose your account when the phone number is reused and that person creates an Whatsapp account.

you probably correct but I'm not scratching myself if I don't feel any itching and will deal with that if it actually happens. It's also possible that other person may get a message ' number not available " when trying to set up WhatsApp , that is my hope.

I had both Grindr and Hornet going when I was in Bkk for the weekend, but didn't get any offers or replies to the few messages I sent on there. Will try again on my upcoming trip, but can't give any tips due to what I just wrote lol

Oh gosh while there are many problems/risks with using the apps (as there are with other venues) but getting NO responses is definitely not one of them. More likely you are going to get more messages than you can easy track. ("Was it Yod or Noom who has the sick grandmother in Ubon?")

Yes, I had no such difficulties in Bangkok, many contacts, Grindr, mostly pleasing. So far in Siem Reap, had half a dozen contacts, on top of the two stamps already in my album!

I just mention "Friend of @vinapu" on my profile and wait for my phone to blow up with messages.

It will not happen, I don't use 'vinapu " on Grindr at all. To be honest I use Grindr mostly to hook up with guys I already saw in bars or spas and find it easier to connect that way,

I’m way late to the thread, but finding money boys at least in Bangkok was not at all a challenge. As soon as they see the complexion and my age, they pounce. 😆

To bait them a bit more to let them know you’re hitting the ATM on this trip, I’d put visitor as your title.

One other tip use that tap feature. Instead of messaging them just give them a tap that you think they’re hot. If they’re looking for cash, your new message alert will happen pretty quick. But be careful as it’s happened to me a couple times on this trip I’ve actually met guys who were genuinely interested. A nice problem to have, but it can be a problem. 😆

This is why I prefer the Hornet app

hornet-logo.thumb.png.02fb9cc65292e72dcba489f2cac92860.png...Who has enough money to buy another mobile phone to restart their Grindr life after being banned?

Just create a new e-mail account. It's cheaper.

Grindr blocks the device (i.e., phone) - so changing your email will not resolve the Grindr blocking problem.

Previously, resetting the phone to factory setting works. Of course you will need to backup you phone before doing this.

Good to know that there is a work-around.

Over the years that I am here in Thailand, when I could not re-find some of the guys on Grindr, and when I would eventually find them via other means, they would tell me that Grindr blocked them and that until they bought a new phone they could not re-establish a new profile in Grindr.

They often read the IMEI (hardware-specific).
IMEI: Identifies the cellular modem or device and remains the same even after a factory reset.
Factory reset: Deletes user data, settings, accounts, etc., but not the IMEI.
SIM/eSIM: Has its own identifier (e.g., ICCID or, in the case of an eSIM, additionally EID) and is independent of the IMEI.

In the worst-case scenario, you’ll have to buy a new phone. BTW IMEI is also transmitted over the air. So they can track you even with a different SIM/eSIM.

Yes this likely should work. It's likely some held-over cookies that are blocking you. Instead of "factory reset" a more modest "remove cookies" would probably work, but I can't say for sure.
