I was diagnosed with bladder cancer which had spread to my lungs in January. I managed one short trip to bkk in April before the chemo/immuno started. The good news was that the ct scan in August showed my lung tumours had reduced by 50%. After about 57 trips to Thailand in 16 years I miss it. Seize the day.

to answer your question it was either 2 times by conventional count or 4 times by way I'm counting my trips.

My both trips to Thailand were broken by visit to Singapore , Vietnam and Cambodia in January and by short trip to Cambodia in July. So I left home for Thailand twice but actually entered Thailand 4 times .

I wouldn't be so quick to summarize year of which 25 % is still to go with at least 26 draws of 6/49 but so far for me year was good and hoping for more of good stuff in the coming 14 or so weeks before 2026 will be over for good.

I did not even started to think about Jan 2027 trip announced two years ago when after not so good trip I swore to give myself break with Thailand for good while but it did not work way intended and Thanks God for that.

My year 2026 allowed me to finally end my tumultuous relationship with ThaiBF#2. Hallelujah!

As I write this reply today from my hotel in Bangkok Sukhumvit 26, I will this afternoon go to the nearby Philippine Embassy to pick up a key document that is required for my Philippine SRRV retirement visa request.

So, my planning for year 2027 includes to acquire my Permanent Residence (PR) in the Philippines. Here in Thailand it is nearly impossible to acquire PR status - especially for retirees. See below article.

The good news about the Philippine PR is that there is no residency requirement, so I will continue to keep my Jomtien residence while I go and explore the Philippines more in year 2027.

Thailand caps permanent residence at 100 people per nationality per year. For most nationalities the quota has never been the problem — almost nobody applies.

My 2026 keeps getting better. Just got a call from my niece's husband to tell me that she gave birth to a healthy baby girl about an hour ago. Oh my the texts are coming in... Mother and child are safe and I've now officially become a great uncle! 👶😍🥰💞

I have been admiring your very careful and patient research and planning. Glad to see that you have very comfortably and confidently made these big decisions. Does that mean that you will be splitting your time 50/50 between Cebu and Pattaya? Does Thailand allow you an aggregate of 180 days per year?

2 fantastic trips in 2026, my next trip is over the upcoming Xmas and New year . I am excited because I always been in the UK over the Xmas period so it be nice to have a beer on the beach on Xmas day!!!

@bkkmfj2648 made a point in another discussion that the happiest people that he sees in Pattaya are those who are there for part of the year. It made me wonder if he was leaning in that direction in the future. I hope that it works out as well for you @bkkmfj2648 as it has for the other part time Pattaya retirees you were referring to. At the very least, it keeps things fresh.

Also, take a look at the Philippines expat subreddit on Reddit. Most of what is posted is about Filipinas, but I think that the issues are going to be same for you as a gay person as most of the straight people on that sub. The stories sound very much like what you hear in Thailand.

I think that there are universal challenges in relationships between two people of very different financial backgrounds, with marked age differences, who are also dealing with significant cultural differences as well. One area for less problems is that many Filipinos are very comfortable speaking English. Just a precaution though. Just because you both speak English doesn’t mean that you will always be speaking the same language due to the issues I pointed out above.
