From Nationmultimedia US market a boon for Thai exporters as trade war bites Thailand’s exports to the US rose by double digits in the first seven months of the year, partly due to the ongoing US-China trade war, which is making importers turn to Thailand. Exports to the US accounted for 12.8 per cent of Thailand’s total exports, followed by 11.3 per cent to China from January to July this year, the Commerce Ministry said. Last year, exports to the US accounted for 11.1 per cent of total exports, compared to 12 per cent to China. “The growth of Thai exports to the US in the first seven months…

Many non-Thai guys that we meet take this route regularly. Most try to sleep through it but others can not, aware of the risks of just such an accident. From Nation Multimedia Eleven people were killed and four others seriously injured when a chartered van carrying Lao workers for visa renewal to the Chanthaburi immigration checkpoint collided with an 18-wheel truck in Sa Kaew province early on Sunday. Police suspect Thai van driver Sansern Sathongkhan might have dozed off behind the wheel, and driven the van into the opposite lane where it crashed head-on with the oncoming truck. They found t…

From Reuters LOPBURI, Thailand (Reuters) - Thousands are flocking to see a Buddhist temple in central Thailand exposed after drought drove water levels to record lows in a dam reservoir where it had been submerged. As the reservoir reaches less than 3% of capacity, the remains of Wat Nong Bua Yai, a modern temple submerged during construction of the dam 20 years ago, have became visible in the middle of dry ground. Some Buddhist monks were among the hundreds of people who walked through broken temple structures on cracked earth littered with dead fish last week to pay respects to a headless 4-metre (13-feet) -tall Buddha statue, adorning it with flowe…

From The News Hour - US PBS (6 Feb.) How this Thai educational movement empowers rural students More and more in Thailand, rural students learn in traditional classrooms, but with an emphasis on hands-on activities. The idea is to empower young villagers to bring economic development to their communities, as well as learn leadership, empathy and compassion. Special correspondent Fred de Sam Lazaro returns to Thailand to talk with the man leading the effort there. It's not something you typically see in a Thai public school. There's dancing, games and paper-making. And the teachers on this day were visiting students from a unique nearby high school. …

Chris Cuomo Threatens Man Who Called Him ‘Fredo’ Chris Cuomo needs to grow a pair. Perhaps he should let his balls hang on an escort board for a month or two. That might toughen up his thin, sensitive skin. I suspect he took this punch for publicity. The man has a rather big ego and he wants to drive the success of his new CNN show. He certainly knows how to work the media and draw attention to himself. Considering how smart this guy really is -- he went to Yale and obtained his Juris Doctor at Fordham. He's also a licensed attorney. -- I'm surprised he wouldn't just laugh at being called Fredo. Furthermore, everyone knows that Donnie Jr. is the real F…

Interesting qualitative study regarding prep and stigma surrounding it and why it becomes a hindrance for people to use it. Two new qualitative studies from Toronto shed light on how stigma affects the uptake of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and the experience of taking it. In the first, young gay men acknowledged that they did not always use condoms but did not see themselves as the kind of ‘barebacker’ for whom they thought PrEP was intended. “PrEP embodies the notion of bareback sex, which traditionally has been associated with negative elements, and it is quite clear that the young gay men in this research do not want to be associated as a barebacking subj…

An editorial in The Nation, titled "Can Pattaya really 'drain the swamp'?", concludes with the following paragraph: "On the other hand, how about just getting serious and accept that prostitution is here to stay? Rather than parading around in fish costumes, let “Fun City” have its fun, but be civilised about it: Decriminalise the flesh trade, register the sex workers, and give them the healthcare, protection and social security they are due." http://www.nationmultimedia.com/news/opinion/today_editorial/30310604

Now it's not the ass play being encouraged, but the safety issue that the New York Health Department is concerned with. They have ads directed at gay men: The NY Daily News has the story. I guess it can be found anywhere but I came across one in Pattaya, Thailand. It was on a 20 year old bar boy. Luckily for him and me he was a total gay bottom about 5' 2" tall and maybe 95 pounds. Now I really didn't care about his cock of course.....just his cute ass but still it was a shock. I swear this is true.....it was the size of my little finger....maybe 3 inches long erect and 2 inches wide. Sorry I wish I had a picture.... Anyone else?

A fourth-grade teacher asked the children what their parents do for a living. All the typical answers came up - mechanic, business, sales, doctor, engineer... and so forth. However, little Justin was being uncharacteristically quiet, so when the teacher prodded him about his parents, he replied, "My father's an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret and takes off all his clothes to music in front of other men and they put money in his underwear. Sometimes, if the offer is really good, he will go home with some guy and stay with him all night for money." The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other children to work on some exercises and took l…

Excerpted from CNN Travel (CNN) — Boarding a long-distance flight today, travelers are accustomed to big jets with roomy cabins, two aisles and space to walk around. But the future of flying is going to look a lot more like the dawn of the Jet Age 60 years ago, when aircraft were considerably smaller. Airbus is betting that this is how we'll travel in the future. Its A320 family has evolved over the last 30 years, adding bigger and smaller models capable of crossing continents. Airbus has incrementally improved the A321 -- the largest of its one-aisle aircraft -- since it first flew in 1993. In 2013 it added "Sharklets" (what Airbus calls its win…

My roommate is 92yo, well educated, well traveled. He is multi-lingual. He has never married. He is into health and cooking and classical music.. He is an agnostic. There is a middle aged married couple (m/f) who often visit him. Recently the woman told him that "his friend _____ (male name)" had called them. But then corrected herself saying "Your partner ___" had called them. Last night he was watching a movie and thought Steve Reeves the body builder was in it but could not identify him. I looked the movie up on the imdb and it was not Steve Reeves that were in the opening credits but rather an actor named Steve Reevis. We have discussed famous gays i…

Have you watched the movie Bohemian Rhapsody? It is about the rock group Queen and primarily about the life of Freddy Mercury, the lead singer. While I enjoyed Queen's music I was not into them as much as some other rock groups. I should have given them more attention. This afternoon I watched this movie and I encourage you to do so. I really enjoyed it. Call me a pussy but I cried toward the end. Give it a spin.

from NY Times (18 July) Google and Facebook Are Quietly Tracking You on Sex Websites Silicon Valley’s biggest companies are always watching you — even when you’re browsing pornography websites in incognito mode. Trackers from tech companies like Google and Facebook are logging your most personal browsing details, according to a forthcoming New Media & Society paper, which scanned 22,484 pornography websites. Where that data ultimately goes is not always clear. “These porn sites need to think more about the data that they hold and how it’s just as sensitive as something like health information,” said Elena Maris, a postdoctoral researcher at Mic…

https://www.ajarn.com/blogs/ajarn-street/how-far-does-a-30k-salary-go-in-bangkok I often get asked the same question - is it possible to live in Bangkok on a 30,000 baht salary? I'm going to go into as much detail as possible to hopefully answer this important question. And I'm certainly not going to sugar-coat things, because after all, you wouldn't want it that way. OK, let's really drill down those numbers. Why 30,000? This is the amount that most of the people asking me the question will be earning - give or take a thousand or two. These days, it's very much an ‘average' teacher's salary in Thailand. Many teacher placement agencies pay in …

From the Los Angeles Times BANGKOK, Thailand — In a boxing ring under a highway bridge, 14-year-old Pheeranut Saleephol bounced between the ropes, his lean frame glazed with sweat. The sound of punches and kicks slamming into sinewy flesh mingled with the noises of the Bangkok street. Thwap. A car honked. Thwap. A bus belched. Thwap. Pheeranut absorbed the blows of a sparring partner who had two years and about 10 pounds on him. “Keep your left hand up,” Tapanat Thaisamran, the man who raised him, shouted from outside the ring. “Protect your chin.” “Face him squarely.” Three weeks ahead …
