From Texas to Kentucky I have been a bit absent for the last 2 weeks and I apologize for this. I helped my family move from Texas to Kentucky. Between the packing, the movers, the driving and 2 kids and 4 dogs, it was a hell of a 2 weeks. LOL We had many little issues along the way including hotel problems, driving issues, allergic reactions, all night driving, dropping furniture on my feet, and a few other scrapes and bruises. While I did enjoy my time in Texas when I was there with family, I am now excited to spend some time in Kentucky. It is a beautiful state and while I won't be here long on this trip, I will be returning in the coming months and years. Goodb…

The court invalidated the Defense of Marriage Act, which denied federal benefits to gay couples who are legally married in their states, including Social Security survivor benefits, immigration rights and family leave. On June 24, the European Union’s 27 Foreign Affairs Ministers adopted a policy that will be binding on all EU states: to promote and protect the enjoyment of all human rights by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex persons. This upgrades the EU’s non-binding agreement made in June 2010. The European Parliament will monitor the implementation of the new policy effective this autumn. http://www.lgbt-ep.eu/press-releases/eu-foreign-affairs-ministers-adopt-lgbti-guidelines/

I have zero dog in the Zimmerman trial. I find it interesting but have no idea what happened factually and wouldn't even want to speculate. The woman below gave testimony today for the prosecution. She is a white trash liar. The cross exam was so eye opening to her scam for lack of better word. From the incident she told 911 she did not want to be identified or be in public related to the case. Yet a few weeks later she finished her second TV interview. When being crossed examined she could not give a straight answer. Question, when boys reach puberty their voices can sometimes deepen would you say that is correct? A- I don't know. Q- You were a school teacher and …

12 old words that survived by getting fossilized in idioms By Arika Okrent | The Week – Fri, Jun 14, 2013 "Sleight of hand" (not "slight of hand" as it's often misspelled) helped the Middle English word "sleight" survive obsolescence English has changed a lot in the last several hundred years, and there are many words once used that we would no longer recognize today. For whatever reason, we started pronouncing them differently, or stopped using them entirely, and they became obsolete. There are some old words, however, that are nearly obsolete, but we still recognize because they were lucky enough to get stuck in set phrases that have lasted across the centuries. Here…

There have been a few threads about the Dreamliner, but in view of the FAA grounding last week a new one seems merited. Not having heard anything about progress in identifying the problems that have caused the grounding (although some comments about the batteries are quite alarming), I checked over on flyertalk to see what frequent flyers and others are saying about it. One flyertalk member had actually made a post prior to the grounding about his being “concerned and definitely not comfortable” about being a passenger on the upcoming flight booked on a Qatar Airways 787 and hoping the fleet would be grounded. Amongst posters, there is a mix of those who are c…

She was the way-over-the-top sexy Patsy in “Absolutely Fabulous”, the good time girl ready to drop everything for the nearest young man about town. Even today, at 66, Joanna Lumley still looks fab. Perhaps steamy heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio – still not married at 38 (goodness, is he really THAT old!) – just did not find her so attractive, for the pair had to go through 27 takes before they got their kiss scene just right. Or just right enough to satisfy director Martin Scorsese shooting his latest movie “The Wolf of Wall Street”. Britain’s The Sun newspaper suggests he was nervous? Surely not! The actor has kissed many a lady on screen and off. But curiously, did yo…

This is clearly a bad hair morning or something similar, for I can find little good news anywhere If there is one bunch of jerks I want to see jailed for many, many years it is the bankers and their underlings who gambled with money they did not own and did not have, and as a result plunged the world into years of recession (should that be decades?). Yet how many are behind bars? Less than a handful by my last count. And it should be hundreds if not thousands of them now in jail left to rot, as far as I am concerned. If there was one silver lining to that crisis, you'd have thought it would be that the banks had learned their lessons. But, of course, they didn't.…

It has been announced that the UK is to introduce a Visa Bond of £3000 on anyone entering the UK from certain specified Asian/African countries. It seems the Bond will be on the basis of a 6 month Visa and if the Visitor overstays then obviously the Bond is forfeit. Currently the Pilot Scheme will involve visitors from India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Ghana - but the plan is to roll it out - so it could conceivably come to include Thailand and eventually it will cover all countries (except EU, which would be illegal) and all Visa types - but (interestingly) not all visas. This suggests that it will be targetted at potential visitors who are cur…

If you've been watching the NBA Finals you already know we are in for a great game between the Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs. The Heat with the superstar line up trying to win back to back titles and the Spurs trying to win their fifth franchise championship. So tonight is it winner take all in deciding game 7. Will the Heat be able to pull out another miracle like they did Tuesday evening. Or will the Spurs finally be able to finish the game and travel home as champ? I'm not saying who I wanna see win but if you do go on and post it in this thread
