Apropos of nothing, really... The 10 Strangest Drugs in Fiction The real world's got nothing on the invented substances found in the trippiest works of literature, like A Clockwork Orange, The Lord of the Rings and Infinite Jest. By Samuel Reaves Slaton 03/20/13 With such a real-world pharmacopoeia available to authors casting about for a mind-altering substance for their fiction, you’d think no one would ever need to invent a brand-new drug. But literature—especially sci-fi, fantasy, and dystopian novels—yields a host of weird and wonderful made-up substances, from memory-wiping waters in an ancient epic poem to a mysterious club drug (or is it an antidepressant?)…

Well I know about a year ago I toyed with the idea of moving. But now its time .... I must have gypsy blood in me because I cannot seem to live anywhere longer than 5 or so years. Anyway, I wanna stay in the states and have ruled out a few places like anywhere in California, Texas (except Austin) and also Nevada (except Reno). A few places I have looked at are NE Ohio, Reno, NV, and Austin, TX. Any other suggestions? Any info on the above few places?

In a rather extraordinary move, the Vatican has announced that the Pope will resign effective the end of this month. CNN is reporting that it may be due to failing health. There is no indication that it refers to any scandal about to break. Reuters which broke the news says the Pope has announced that his strength is no longer adequate to fulfil the office of the Papacy. Yet, this seems to go against Catholic tradition whereby the Pope stays in office till death. As far as I can see, it's been about 600 years since a Pope last reigned.

The lively thread on Best Written TV Series, especially ihpguy's post about Maude and M.A.S.H. being overrated, got me thinking on how some series we loved first time around just get better with age, while others dwindle. Genre pairings (I mean 2 shows of same type) seem to make the contrast sharp. E.g., All in the Family holds me today, whereas like ihp notes Maude gets pretty shrill over not that much. Of course Bea Arthur saves anything she is in, but the show itself ... eh. But again to the point, Golden Girls to me remains a delight by comparison with Maude. Anyone else noticed pairings, of any kind, of shows that on rerun live vs. die?

Sorry to disappoint those that think of Ghostbusters, this thread isn't the answer to who the Keymaster is. This thread is for all the fans (fanatics) of roller coasters. This Gatekeeper is the new rollercoaster at Cedar Point. As summer begins, there are new roller coasters all over. Here is a good reference for many of them: http://theinformistnews.com/2013/05/09/new-roller-coaster-is-set-to-break-records-7-world-records/ Here is some info about the new one at Cedar Point (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GateKeeper_(roller_coaster)). Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio adds to its fat portfolio (16!) of coasters with GateKeeper, which makes its debut Saturday. The stee…

Well, for those of you still invested in American Idol after the recent lackluster Snoozefest of a Season, eventhough fan favorite Candice glover won, REJOICE....! Idol management decided to clean house, and can ALL the judges, although they are saying that Randy "Dawg" Jackson quit, and fill the panel with a new Crop of hip, Relevant judges.... Confirmed: Judge #1 The Diva JENNIFER HUDSON.... How Faboulous is that ? Seems the Idol plan is to fill the Panel with Past Idol contenders, and although Kelly Clarkson turned down the gig, still in the running are Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken. Cool plan huh ???? She was the child star who made Oprah Winfrey and Celine Dion cry. In 2008 aged just 16 Celine invited her to do a guest spot on her show in Madison Square Garden. Mentored by superstar songwriter David Foster, she even came to Bangkok as part of the David Foster and Friends concert two years later. Now she has come out as gay. In a frank interview with The Guardian, Michael Douglas reveals that the cause of his throat cancer was not – as thought – his years of smoking and drinking, but oral sex. Douglas adds he believes cunnilingus can also help cure this condition, an idea that Dr. Kumar suggests “just doesn’t make sense!” http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2013/jun/02/michael-douglas-oral-sex-cancer

What Not To Do At Pride It's that special time of year again when gay pride parades start happening! While pride is a wonderful thing and should be embraced, it should also be noted that there are some no-nos as well. At Boy Toy, we've attended some of the early pride marches and seen some things that just should not be. So, we figured we'd write today about the things you should avoid when it comes to having fun at gay pride. These are all things we've seen in person even the weirdest stuff and you can pass the info on to your fag hags and straight allies as well, because it's all good and everyone should behave - because how can you be proud if you are being ri…

I had to leave town to go see my father because his wife said that she was noticing some odd behavior from him and she was concerned. He also missed both my sisters and my birthdays this month which he has never done in our entire life. So I had a gut feeling that something was wrong. So I got back to Indiana and I went to my father's house on Saturday morning. When I walked in the door I didn't see anyone and I walked into the kitchen and my father was on the floor and he couldn't get up. He had been there over two hours. He had fallen coming up the stairs. So I helped him up into a chair and he was like dead weight. His wife didn't know it had even happened beca…

By Variety – 12 hours ago French police have named actress Sharon Stone as their prime suspect in the daring heist, in which more than $1.4 million in jewels were stolen from a hotel room during the Cannes Film Festival. According to authorities, they zeroed in on the “Basic Instinct” star as their prime suspect after an IMDb search helped them realize the actress hasn’t been a movie star in almost a decade, which made her attendance at the Cannes Film Festival extremely suspicious, they noted. “Sharon Stone’s last starring role in a major theatrical release was in 2006’s ‘Basic Instinct 2,’ which should have gone to straight-to-DVD anyway,” a spokesperson for th…

A Nice Day For A Gay Wedding On Wednesday, five days before a certain red wedding, the city of Monptellier planned on having the first gay wedding in France. While people wanted it to be a day of celebration, there were lots of concerns as well. The weekend before, tens of thousands of anti-gay marriage protestors had set cars on fire and smashed windows in Paris. What would happen when the first marriage actually took place? And so it was that Montpellier woke up Wednesday filled with affection for the grooms Bruno and Vincent, but also trepidation that things would go as badly as the various matrimonials in A Storm of Swords. In the morning, the newspapers all fla…
