In another thread, there are complaints about high hotel prices here. Well, the state of Rio de Janeiro is a boom town. The center of a vast oil industry growing larger all of the time. Huge expensive public works developing the pre-sal discoveries in the Atlantic. This is besides the preparations for the World Cup, the 450th anniversary of the founding of this city and then the 2016 Games. The WSJ reports today that inflation in Brazil is once again becoming a scary thing. The government seems concerned about slow growth, but not inflation, which is rising. Food prices, normally stable in this time of year, are rising. The annual inflation rate, through mid-July, is 5.4%, and even higher for food, although no specific figure was given. Economists predict inflation at 5.5% for the next two years. Yet the rate for July alone was 6.67%. This, in an economy only growing 2% per year. From about 2005 to 2008 "Darke" was the massagista at Pointe 202 sauna in Rio, he was also doing professional Muah Thai fighting at the same time. Where I happen to live, our patron saint is Sao Roque or Saint Roch, supposed curer of the Black Death. Much more interesting and certainly more important for gay men is Sao Goncalo. I needed to go into the city to do some business so I thought I would stop in on Monday at Meio Mundo. As I walked through the entry, the scent of old, musty locker room invaded my nostrils. Not in a nice way. At 5PM, there were lots and lots of cute guys. Well attended. Went to my locker and of course, smell was even worse. If anyone here is trying to call someone in Sao Paulo, and fairly soon for the rest of the country, there is a new dialing system being adopted when calling cell phones. For a few months, either method will be acceptable. But in the future between the city code for Sao Paulo of "11" and the 8-digit phone number, you will need to add the number "9" if calling from outside the city or just add a "9" to the front of the 8-digit phone number. Globo reported that at sometime in the next year or so, this will also be happening for Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre and elsewhere.

Seven weeks away from Rio de Janeiro and my own bit of paradise to visit with family and friends back in Obamalandia as opposed to Cinelandia. We say agredoce here. Bittersweet. To say the least. This section of the forum has been kinda slow lately so I thought we needed some scenery! Monday night at Meio Mundo was incredible. As it was the first Monday of the month, many, many more clients with money to burn. And of course, the GP's knew it. I got there at about 4:15PM after finishing my business in the city earlier in the day. Had a crappy sushi lunch at a new place for me in Ipa on Barao de Torre at Farme de Amoedo.
