This is the view to the north of Guanabara Bay with the successive lines of mountains. With the earlier sunset, the photo's a bit dark as it was taken just about 30 minutes before sunset. It actually was a very really sunny day.

I have my perfect schedule for Brazil. Naturally, I want to get points as I am a point whore. So, I'll use GOL. I have tried for 2 days to book them online with no luck. I just called Delta and they can't either. They said you may have to call them. If I remember correctly before, I had the same issue and they didn't let me book outside of Brazil. Does this make sense?

I haven't been to Meio Mundo too often during the past six weeks. Actually, until last night, only twice. Not feeling too great. And besides Carnaval, there had been the two brothers, revisting my avatar and a scary 6hr visit to the ER, flat on my back, and not in a good way. Or reopening of old thermas paradise (?) Just found on the facebook group of Thermas Lagoa that the producer of Lagoa's gogo boy show Carlota (or Carlos) is managing the opening of a new sauna with boys in SP - Av. São João 1011 - on march 8th. That adress was of the old sauna paradise, that closed sometime ago. Dont know anymore about this, but as the sauna open I will go there and see how bussiness is going.

So I've been talking to some people in Sao Paulo, and last night with someone who has been intimately acquainted for years with the sauna. My suspicions, that this sauna is well past its glory days, were confirmed. He said that some years back many famous and rich people from Sao Paulo used to frequent the place, but that the internet has changed all of this and they have taken all the pretty and hot boys "private." It's been a complete disappointment. The quality of the boys is really a lot below what you find in Rio at 117 and elsewhere. Maybe one interesting option in SP is "Clube dos Pauzudos" (free translation: "Association of the Well Hang" ) a party that happens in a sauna in SP (I believe in either Arrouche or Barra Funda) neither far from the centro, 2 or 3 times a week. Despite the name, anybody can get in, the entrance is in the R$20,00 range, and ttrough the duration of it the sauna works only as the local for the party. No rent boys are supplied, but in a good night you can probably spot a couple. Nudity is mandatory, no towels are allowed, only flip-flops. I am curious, beyond hotels, how much money do you budget for your trips to Brazil? Do you stick to a specific amount? Also, if I am there for a long period of time, I'll have to do laundry. Where is the best place to do this other than the hotels? I'll be there 30 days and don't want to spend a fortune on clean clothes but I do like my undies nice.

Ok. I am pretty set to spend a month in Brazil but the recent promotion I posted from Holiday Inn is making me reconsider things. I have 28 days in the country. I fly into Sao Paulo. I'll get in on a Thursday night and had planned to stay that weekend and the next weekend. I was going to be in Porto Alegre on a Tuesday so I'd have some time to meet the boys at the sauna before Tomcal comes into town and takes them all away from me. A friend is going to Rio in March and gets to stay at the Sheraton because his family gets a nice discount. I have never stayed in this hotel and he asked me about it. Has anyone stayed here? What was your experience? The TripAdvisor reviews are all over the place.

I've been to a "few"(insert chuckle) of Rio's Love Motels. Not an expert with an encyclopedic knowledge. But from the the most basic place across the street from the Campo de Sant'Anna to a mid-range place like the Hostal on Ave. Gomes Freire in Lapa, Lido in Copa as well as another around the corner from La Cueva to a much more luxe across the street from the Igreja Nossa Senhora da Gloria on the Largo do Machado, and also the tres-chic Scort Motel in Sao Conrado, and more than a few others in between, but I was unfortunately never offered a room comparable to the medieval whips and chains of the Shalimar. Campo Grande, on the west side of Rio de Janeiro, set a new record not seen since 1915. 109degress. 43.2 Celsius. In Saude, part of the Zona Portuaria, close to Meio Mundo and the Praca Maua, reached 106degrees or 41.3 today. Usually Bangu and Campo Grande are the hotest part of Rio de Janeiro as there is a depression in the land out there and the heat just seems to build and build. But surprising as to how hot it is near the water here on Guanabara Bay. Going for a swim in the mud on New Year's Eve should be close to jumping into a tub of loose, fresh poop. Yech.
