Other than those Japanese descendants in Brazil, I doubt many Brazilians are interested in visiting Japan, not to mention entering Japan illegally.

I’m not so sure. São Paulo has the largest number of people of Japanese extraction of any city outside Japan.

I’m travelling to Brazil in December. I just looked at the Brazilian Sydney Consulate website and the visa process looks like a bureaucratic nightmare. Amongst (many) other things you are required to submit a statutory declaration as to cities you are visiting and the scope of your activities in each city. Oh dear.

That is why I said those Japanese descendants(extraction) in Brazil may be interested in visiting Japan, but I don't think other Brazilians (who are unrelated Japanese blood) are interested in visiting Japan, not to mention entering Japan illegally or overstay in Japan. I have never heard any GP or Brazilians friends express interest in visiting Japan.  In contrast,  I have met countless Brazilians who are interested in going to the U.S. and trying to figure out a way to do so, even illegally. And, I personally know a few Brazilians overstay in the U.S., so they are in the U.S. illegally now and have no desire to return to Brazil. Many of them are actively looking for same-sex marriage to give them the green card.  Some Brazilians enter Europe through Portugal.  Brazilians can enter Portugal without visa, but there is not many opportunities to make money even for Portuguese.  Many good looking/talented Portuguese men (and women) already left Portugal to other parts of EU.  I met a GP in SP who stayed and worked in Portugal for a few years but eventually return to Brazil. There is no money to be made in Portugal.

This new visa Brasil requirement thing for  USA citizens traveling to Brazil is a bummer.  I can't get any information about the process. It's really frustrating. I haven't been able to book my trip to Fortaleza and Rio, because I don't know if I'm going to be able to secure a visa on time. I'm planning on heading there, right around the time this BS visa thing goes into effect. So, it's very close. I need to find out about the process at least a month (by September 1, 2023) before I start booking tickets and accommodations in Brasil.  I do not want to risk booking non refundable tickets and then not being able to get the visa on time. I keep calling the Brasil embassy in my state, and no one can give me an answer. They keep telling me, there will be delays,  and they can't guarantee that I will receive the visa on time. I have no clue why the Brazilian gov thought it was a good idea to put this new visa requirement policy in place. I have all these plans in Fortaleza, all these regular hunks, and porn stars waiting for me in Fortaleza..It would be a pity , if  I don't make it to brasil due to BS visa requirement.

At this point, I'm starting to look at Spain as my plan B. I have heard wonderful things about it. I'm already researching fares and accommodations there for autumn trip. The prices are starting to come down in Spain now, so a 10 days vacation there would not be that expensive. Right now, I'm looking at staying in Madrid for 5 days, and splitting the other 5 days between Barcelona and  Valencia. There are no visa requirements there for Americans, I would just need to focus on booking air and hotels. If there are no news about the new Brasil visa things by September 1, 2023, I'm going to start the Spain booking  process. Brasil will have to wait until next year, I plan on going there for carnival.

Think it's postponed to 10 Jan 2024.

Where did you hear this? There is nothing to this effect on the Brazilian Consulate Sydney website. You can’t ring them for information and visiting their office is discouraged. I rang the largest visa service company here in Sydney and they do not know if the consulate will accept applications from service agencies such as themselves when the system starts on 1 October. They told me they have no information. Hopeless.

After writing this I put Brazil visa rumours into google and I came across a blog for Newland Chase ( a CIBT company) CIBT is the visa company I rang in Sydney. They state that there is an indication that Brazilian immigration will extend the 1 October start date. This however is not official.

This is encouraging news. The Brazilian Consulate in Sydney still has 1 October as the starting point but hopefully will be deferred.

I suspect this new visa requirement will be postponed.  October is only one month away, people can't even buy plane ticket now with the risk of being denied boarding without valid visas.

The Brazilian Consulate in Sydney has now updated its website ( written in convoluted English) and the visa requirement takes effect from 10 January.

I told you so.

excellent news, Brasil visa requirements USA, Japan, Australia, Canada has been postponed until January 10, 2024. I already started making plans for Spain, now I'm wondering if I should make a u-turn, or go  wait until carnival 2024. I'm already planning on going for Carnival 2024. I have one week to decide whether to continue on with Spain plans or make a dramatic u-turn.

You wouldn't catch me there during Carnival.....triple rates, highest crime time, waits for GP's in sauna....go before Carnival if you want to see the rehearsals.

To each their own though.....

Omg! Honey, pls don't mention Carnaval in this thread. I think everyone should experience that event at least once. Yassssss! The airbnbs are triple the price.

The wait times at the saunas are long, but baby the sexy hunks with big dicks who who travel from all over brazil and converge in Rio Is sooooo worth it. In my slutty opinion.

But I'm a whore and the only crime that I've experienced in Brazil, especially during Carnaval is PRE-MEDITATED MUREDER on my hole.

Countdown to BRAZIL #88 DAYS!

I have never crossed my mind to be in Brazil around Carnival, it sounds like a nightmare in my book;  I am anti-big crowds, but if there are  GPs for all over the country. Going just before can be a good alternative and leave

the visa requirements are so ridiculous the printed bank statement? Two pages in the passport. Isn’t electronic SMH

I am arriving on the 13th and tried to get an e-visa. The website is poorly designed and frankly it was so hard I gave up after a while. Like the phone number country code has an empty drop down, then it is supposed to send you a one time password to login the first time, but it takes forever to receive that, by which time the password has expired

it is designed by VFS global which is a company that I know and I thought wouldn’t make a mess of it, but they did.
I’ll try again.

We in the Anglosphere are not used to this requirement, although of course it is not uncommon for people from less affluent countries to have to show minimum financial means before getting visas to other countries. I'll bet Brazilians must do something like this to get visas from Canada, US, and Oz.

In visa applications over the years to many countries off the beaten path, I've had to include a bank statement. As I recall, it was needed a few years ago for the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola, for example. Also, it was required for Russia. In the past, I always blacked out part of my bank account number. It was not a big deal.

In a couple of cases, they wanted an "attested" statement from the bank that I had sufficient funds and am a reliable customer in good standing. Banks have these form letters ready to go.

I will be seriously annoyed if Brazil rejects bank statements with part of the account number redacted.

Since editing PDFs is easy now, an alternative to blacking out numbers might be to switch several digits around in the account number.
