Buying poppers from anonymous Grindr profile...

...should I be worried about entrapment and extortion by the police? Contact seems very friendly with good English and prices...

I'm in Bangkok. I see other drugs like Viagra are sold illegally but openly on the street e.g. Sukhumvit Road, while illegal steroids are sold at select pharmacists e.g. Silom area. I just know of a case where a foreigner went to someone's room and was apprehended by police (the informant got a reward), although that was for hard drugs which don't interest me. Just wondered if anyone had had any good or bad experiences acquiring obtaining poppers through these apps.

I would worry more about my health than police entrapment if I were buying anything from Sukhumvit.

THEY ARE FAKES. They are cut with who knows what.

If you want something like Viagra, then go to a real pharmacy and buy SIDEGRA a local, legally made Thai version for about 180 Baht for 4 X 100mg tabs.

I doubt if pharmacies will sell you poppers.

Poppers are totally illegal in Thailand.

Nine years ago, I did something like that. I chatted with a Thai guy who was selling Poppers on GayRomeo. We met at a BTS station, I handed over the cash and he handed over a bottle of Poppers. Pretty much in broad daylight and with many people around. No problems at all, but that doesn't mean much obviously.

Poppers certainly cannot legally be sold in Thailand, but if it's worth setting someone up, I don't know. There are probably better options for those inclined. I've also yet to hear any first- or even second-hand report about someone getting in trouble with the law for using Poppers in Thailand, while I know many who got in deep shit for using other stuff.

Years ago I lived in Europe with a Thai guy.

I was going through a potpourri phase (yes, it was that long ago). He thought that he'd do me a favour by refreshing all the petals in every room . Yes you guessed it, he used the poppers bottle instead of the potpourri perfume.

The whole house stank for a week!

Most popper users bring a supply from their home country.

I'm not so sure, I'd say that most Poppers users in Thailand are probably Thai. At least here in Bangkok, Poppers is very popular among local gays. Some clubs and saunas sell it, and pretty openly so. The last sauna I visited had a box of Poppers bottles on display, but the box was empty, sold out.

I'd doubt it, too... but it is Thailand. Actual medicinal ampules for heart conditions (the glass tubes within a net covering) were amyl nitrate; what recreational users know as poppers aren't, so "room odorizers" and "tape head cleaners" are usually butyl, isobutyl or other nitrates. I can't cite specific laws, but have read they're illegal in Thailand, too. Tried them 40+ years ago, and didn't like them, myself.

no - they are amyl nitrite

no - they are alkyl nitrites

they are but that of course does not stop them being openly sold here, and if you use the correct terms it is not hard to find links to the actual laws in Thailand, and you may find the article in the Bangkok Post today about bar hours helpful for a current update re import of these substances into Thailand

no - they are amyl nitrite  Missed by a letter, thank you, you are correct... "ite" and not "ate".

Thanks for your reply, though.

Missed by a letter, thank you, you are correct... "ite" and not "ate".

one letter is not really important is it, and perhaps I am just being needlessly pedantic as usual, but in medical use nitrates are usually taken orally, taking liquid alkyl nitrites orally will probably kill you, other common nitrates are used to make fertilizer and explosives and I am sure you don't want to be encouraging others to shove those up their noses!

Those, too, but there are other formulations and concoctions that are being sold.

the alkyl nitrites group (not amyl nitrite, a few letters different there, so perhaps too confusing) include the butyl, isobutyl and other common nitrites so I am not sure what other "concoctions" you are referring to

I met the contact and collected the goods at a public place (BTS station). It turned out to be a foreigner, not a Thai, hence the excellent English. Probably less risk buying from a foreign national than a local Thai. Probably.

less risk of being caught by police for purchasing an illegal product or less risk of dying from using an unknown source potentially unsafe street copy of a relatively dangerous drug?

in my home country the sale of alkyl nitrites as room orderisers is "legal" and there are a couple of local brands and local outlets that I would trust to buy from if I was interested, after 20 years in Thailand there is still nowhere that I would consider "safe", but I am cynical and conservative and your mileage may vary - though if you never post here again you may seriously damage the sale of poppers in Thailand via gayromeo!

Nope, not advocating the use of them to anyone in any form. In fact, I'd suggest anyone currently using (or considering using) them do some thorough research on their effect(s) on the brain and system overall and perhaps giving them a miss entirely. Doing a Google for "dangers of recreational poppers" is a decent start.

Only recreational drugs I'm using are massage and go-go boys, heart and body warming, at times causing short time memory loss, highly addictive but addiction is easily fought by  boarding plane heading back home, 1400$ treatment, jet lag included

The distinction between nitrate and nitrite is extremely important, makes a difference like aunt and cunt.

I assume someone who wishes to use poppers in Thailand uses them in his home country, so it would be best to bring them from there (so you know what you have, but have to get it onto the plane and through customs).

I have seen the adverts on grindr, gayromeo, internet and vaguely recall seeing bottles for sale (I have no interest in poppers, but for research purposes I will take a closer look next time).

This stuff (alkyl nitrites) is cheap to produce, there is no reason to stretch it (unless you don't have direct access, as a laboratory chemical it would cost about 50 Euro per liter). It decomposes with time, this process can be slowed down with stabilizers.

During my entire time in Thailand, I have not seen anyone use it, nor being offered or asked for it, nor having noticed the smell somewhere.

I usually buy my poppers from the get poppers website, but they take up to 12 hours to send the product and it takes another 2-3 days before it arrives. However, once it is in my hands i really enjoy the sessions since they sell original poppers products. My favorite one is the Blue Boy Poppers, but i suggest you check their catalog and find your desired brand.

Cheers!

There's a pharmacy just a minute away from Soi twilight that sells them,  if you ask one of the boys in the bars in Soi twilight nicely ( and tip them sufficiently ) they should ( assuming they're in the know) nip up and get you a bottle.

Ha a while back after I'd been asked to get a bottle for some fun later for myself and a few others the bar guy I'd asked was obviously a new boy to the scene and after him asking someone else where he should go to get them rather than just go get them for me he thought he was being extra good and actually insisted on taking me to the very shop to show me where I could get them next time.

So on arrival at the shop I waited outside the plate glass window and he went into the shop and spoke to the shopkeeper and then pointed out through the window towards me obviously saying "the farang wants poppers" ha ha you didn't need to be able to speak Thai to know the shop keeper was eating the ass off him and telling him never EVER to bring a Farang directly to his shop again like that !

However the shopkeeper carried on and begrudgingly sold me them directly. So, without saying to much that might give their methods away he went to where they were stored and just like the Russian Dolls you see, he opened a very large pharmacy bottle of say paracetamol, which then had another smaller pharmacy bottle of some random over the counter tablet label on it, which then had another pharmacy bottle in it and so on and so on until eventually he came to the half dozen tiny bottles of poppers, all very well ( and overly well ) hidden if you ask me.

I actually thought that I'd read somewhere about a year ago that the sale of poppers in Thailand was to be legalised / decriminalised ? But I'm assuming that maybe didn't happen then if people are still searching around for them then ........But they are there - and Christian I'm amazed that you haven't encountered them on your travels as whilst I don't use them myself I know several boys who LOVE them and them using them has resulted in some very hot encounters for me over the years.
