How the Portuguese influenced Thailand’s cuisine
bkkmfj2648 replied to reader's topic in The Beer Bar
I saw the influence and legacy that the Portuguese left in Songkhla - in southern Thailand. It was very obvious in the old-town section in the architecture. -
Excellent sage advice. Do not stay in a hotel. Renting a local condo in a building in a neighborhood that appeals to you is the BEST option - as you get to "test drive" what day-to-day life would be like. I had come to Pattaya several times over a 10 year period and I always felt the most "at home" in Jomtien - as it answered most of my retirement needs: I could rent a condo with a seaview balcony that overlooks the Gulf of Thailand, Walking distance to many gay bars and gay activities - the Jomtien Complex (aka Supertown) is a 10 minute walk from my condo, there is also Boyztown over in Pattaya City. Access to a gay beach - Dongtan beach is literally in front of my condo with a special beach road gate onto the gay beach, Access to good medical care / hospitals; Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, Pattaya Memorial Hospital, Jomtien Hospital, etc. Walking distance to nearby supermarkets, Good transportation = baht buses (songthaews) for 10 baht each way from Jomtien into South Pattaya, Access to international food, Close enough to an international airport; Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang - are within 2 hours from Pattaya, Access to a big city = Bangkok, Access to nature and clean beaches - Koh Larn is only a 20 to 25 minutes speedboat ride away and Koh Samet is only 2 hours away, and Koh Chang is only 5 hours away. So, I often rented AirBnBs in some of the nearby View Talays and Grand Condotel, and that is where I ended up as I liked the feeling of feeling at home in these condo residences.

@Olddaddy you seem to get bored everywhere that you go - so that would imply, that the place that you go to is not important, because you will get bored anyway. So my question to you is: What keeps you from getting bored in Sydney - your hometown ? ? 🤔🤔

Wow @macaroni21 where were you when I was in university learning Economics 101 ? Your example of substituting "widgets" with "rent boys", is so much more interesting, than what I was taught at university with widgets.

Compliments on your stamina. I find it "hard" to resist 90 to 110 minutes when the eventual explosion takes over the situation 🍆💦

After he pulled it out of his ear - he shows it to the other guy - who then wants to take it with his fingers - but then the guy who pulled the ear wax out of the other guy's ear - puts it into his mouth....

I would say yes - as long as you respect Thai culture, norms, and their religion. That should be easy as there are large gay expat communities throughout Thailand, including; Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Phuket, and Hua Hin. There are probably also other areas with gay communities. When do you make the big move to Thailand?

Wow @reader - very intense scene - what was it that he pulled out of his ear ? and then he ate it 🤮

Try searching in Twitter (X). I found these 2 via the Twitter search query function. Note that I have not visited either of these 2 places. Good luck.

Perhaps not, as per @macaroni21 excellent thread regarding tariffs on the equalization of MB prices globally - especially in the USA, where he states that the MB price could be driven down to match the Thailand price.

https://www.imidaily.com/asia-pacific/vietnam-tourism-board-proposes-new-10-year-golden-visa/ Let's hope that they actually follow through with this idea. Their goal for 8% or more GDP growth, includes as part of that plan these 3 new visa types. And the wonderful beach city of Da Nang is on the list of areas to be included for this pilot.

And please don't ask why the Pattaya sea has a coffee brown tinge to it. But, every day I see many tourists swimming in it. Note that there is a nearby alternative where you can experience true beautiful white sand beaches with transparent turquoise seawater. If you still insist on coffee brown water, they do serve hot or cold coffee at the Koh Larn beach - but it is served in a civilized cup.

I have solved this arriving too early problem by sleeping at the BKK airport. There are many solutions available: https://www.sleepinginairports.net/guides/bangkok-suvarnabhumi-airport-guide.htm I used the 4 hours option at the Novotel located via a tunnel in the Suvarnabhumi airport. It was very convenient and comfortable.

Gay Pattaya man found dead under bed, gold necklace missing

Since I have moved to Asia from the EU in September 2022 --> one of the cultural differences that I have noticed is for some Asians to wear their wealth on their body - especially people from India. This is something that I have difficulty understanding - is to put such wealth at risk against the temptation of theft and/or bodily harm. Any wealth that I might have will not be on my body but instead locked away at the bank or in a safety box. To date, my 2 different primary Thai boyfriends wanted me to invest in expensive gold jewelry in the form of necklaces, bracelets, or rings. Why is their this need to wear your wealth and put it at risk of theft? -

When I saw that they chose: LGBTQ+ Instead of the current full acronym: LGBTQQIP2SAA or abbreviated version: LGBTQIA+ I was wondering if this would have any negative consequences on Thailand's objective to host the 2030 WorldPride event. Not sure - as I am no longer involved in these activities. Thoughts? https://www.onesiam.com/th/style/bangkok-on-the-road-to-world-pride-destination -

I am old enough to remember the controversy to accept the letter "B" to the existing LG acronym. There were many worries to let the bi-sexuals into our "movement" for fear that the bi-sexuals were too closeted to help our movement and that it might be detrimental to our cause. Those fears eventually subsided, and we became LGB. Then the letter "T" presented themselves, and from what I can remember, they were accepted into the movement with less controversy than the letter "B". By the time that the next letter "Q" came up for consideration, I was no longer a gay activist, as I had moved onto other issues. -
Confirm use of substandard steel in collapsed high rise

And what about the perhaps 76 souls still underneath the rubble? What % are Myanmar? Will the Thai government still keep complaining that the foreigners are stealing jobs from the Thai people? Had those that are among the 76 who are Myanmar, would they have been forcibly deported like the 40 Uyghurs were back to China against their will?? -

Yes. Let us not forget the biggest Vietnam scandal caused by the wealthy female tychoon = Truong My Lan who was sentenced to death. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/world/truong-my-lan-vietnamese-billionaire-death-sentence-fraud-b1197788.html -
It's mind boggling. I've read that his goal is to get the USA back to its pre-1913 = pre Federal Reserve Bank days, when the then federal government was funded by tariffs instead of today's model of being funded by the USA global citizenry via the IRS and global tax collection.

And out of all of the possible buildings in Bangkok to fall down, it is the SAO = State Audit Office building. This is a wake up call. Audit the fuck out of this investigation. Mother Earth has spoken!!! -
I think that my point was missed. So, Thailand reduces its tariffs to zero on incoming goods and services from the USA. Trump reciprocates and lowers the tariff for goods coming into the USA from Thailand to zero. What will be the impact of this NONE tariff new world ?

Thailand’s tourism strategy to restore confidence
bkkmfj2648 replied to reader's topic in The Beer Bar
I agree. I was just trying to share with @PeterRS my opinion about why Thailand does not want any outside help. -
And furthermore, what I don't understand is the following: Trump states that he will eliminate the IRS and replace it with the ERS - which will collect all of these tariffs for the USA Treasury. But, if every country follows the path of Thailand and Vietnam to reset their tariffs on incoming USA goods to ZERO --> then the ERS gets nothing. Please explain how this strategy will work if every country on planet earth will reset their tariffs on incoming USA goods and services to zero. What happens then?
