I discussed the tax situation with my friend, ex tax lawyer in NY. He confirmed that with a double tax treaty in existence, there should be no issues, but get your own advice. He has what he calls a 'wealthy foreigner' visa, whatever that is, which he says, means that these tax issues do not affect him.

A really interesting guy! I'm not an expert but I though that if your 'home' country has a double taxation treaty with Thailand, all is well? That was suggested in earlier posts. I have a friend in Bangkok who used to be a tax partner in an NY firm, and he has just bought a condo. I can ask him. He has also acquired a good looking young Burmese live in companion, though I don't think that affects the tax position!!

I don't remember a bar, either.

Sites I use in Japan for searching businesses

Me too. No issues.Stay where you like. -
Im assuming that the 'opening' is partial, and therefore only thr rooms are ready, though, as you say they are huge. That would explain why no references to The Club floor, etc, which must not be ready either till a bit later. I imagine management don't want to be too open about a partial opening, they just want to get the punters in. I hope there is a big pool, one of the disadvantages of the old Dusit was a small, rather sunless pool. It did have a great Club floor though, with an extensive terrace overlooking the Park. Showing my age, when I first stayed there, it was the tallest building in Bangkok!

Belgian tourist dies after horrific attack by German

Fair point. They were indeed far right. -
I see that, as you suggest, the Club rooms are not available in November, when I would be there. I searched for November, hence the restricted rooms! Shame

OK, thanks. That's helpful. I missed the full list.

OK, I just wondered, as the friend who came to sit by his bedside, appeared to be male. -
Thanks. I have looked at the website, it looks better than I had expected, large rooms, Thai style. However I couldn't find any reference to a Club floor, and just 3 types of room, though all spacious

More likely if you are a top, I assume!

Chief Torsak reinstated following completion of investigation

What a surprise! Interestingly, the report seems inconsistent, in that it refers to multiple conflicts, then recommends reinstatement! -

Interesting question. What if they are the wrong size?

British Airways flights to Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur resume soon

Sorry, predictive text, 'airlines' should have been 'airmiles'! I didn't notice. -
I'm glad to see that even you can get tired!

Yes, excellent place, and several new stamps!

The old Dusit Thani also had a great selection. I may try to find out in November how the new hotel fares. I should add that the breakfast in the Meredien Club lounge, while much reduced from the main buffet, is still good enough, in my view, cook on hand etc. Also much quieter, if that's important! The Club lounge has been refurbished since my last visit, so I am interested to see if there are improvements.

We also have other, much ruder, Imperialist terms!

Excellent picture! I fear luggage racks went out many years ago!

Oh, and Chicago!

Well, I cant talk; as you know, I have been in Bangkok and Toronto, plus NY, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Sydney, Melbourne, Prague, Paris, Cologne and Berlin recently!

I did sleep in the luggage rack once, when a student, but no sex!

I should add, that due to our incompetent water authorities, our rivers are becoming dirtier, as excess raw sewage is pumped into the rivers, in direct proportion to the bonuses paid to the directors of our (privatised) water companies. Where I live watercress has been grown in the local small river for hundreds of years. No more, too polluted.
