I don't think Cook went to the Bahamas! Actually, these early navigators, Magellen, Vespucci, etc al were amazing when you consider the primitive vessels, and complete lack of any firm if map, or modern navigation equipment. Even earlier, of course, the Vikings, Romans, Greeks, Phoenicians, etc.
