As reported many times previously in this Gay Pattaya section of our forum - this PSA is to make all of you who are:

• planning vacations/holidays in the next imminent high season (October 2026 - February 2027),
• seasonals who will return to Pattaya / Jomtien,
• or live here and are very aware about the situation.

This project commenced in 2020 much further down south in the Na Jomtien area (under Phase 1) and is now in Phase 2 - as of today (August 2026) has reached the police box where Dongtan beach starts (heading northbound).

I believe that they will enter into the area of Dongtan beach either later in September or early October.

The locals have explained the sand replenishment/nourishment process/procedure to me as follows:

• clear the existing beach of the vendors / beach establishments,
• erect a fence on the beach sidewalk so that people don't inadvertently walk into an active operation and get hurt,
• scrape back the existing top white sand,
• dredgers off-shore port the sand that they have dredged / collected from the bottom of the sea is transferred onto the pump boat,
• off-shore pump boat has a long white pipe attached to it where the pump boat pumps the freshly dredged sand onto the shore,
• bulldozers move this dark sand onto the areas of the beach that need to be widened - or as they say locally, "nourished",
• bulldozers try to cover the darker sand with the previous white sand - often there is not enough white sand - so I heard (not confirmed) that there is another process where a ship goes to some of the many offshore uninhabited small islands and "borrows" its white sand to cover the darker sand on Jomtien beach.
• everything is smoothed out by the bulldozers,
• restored and enlarged beach is reopened to the beach vendors and beach goers,
• mother nature continues her natural erosion process.

The end result is very impressive and if you take a walk southbound towards Jomtien Beach / Na Jomtien - you can see what the beach looks like after this amazing beach erosion transformation has been completed.

The purpose of this PSA is to hopefully answer the question, "will this negatively impact my planned vacation (return to Jomtien)?"

Yes, but only in 300-metre sections - as the beach sand replenishment nourishment project is moving northbound (towards the gay beach area) in 300-metre segments. Since the area north of the Dongtan police box extends for approximately 1.7km, divided by 300 metre segments, which means that the project will move around 6 more times until its completion - with it completing each 300 metre section in about a 4 to 8 week window.

So, to enjoy your vacation - just move to an area that is not yet impacted - OR - has already been completed.

One caveat, Grok is telling me that the tract from the Dongtan police box up until the northern point of Yin Yom beach (north of the gay volleyball area and Pattaya Park Tower) is out of scope for this project.  We will know very shortly if this is true - because the dredgers have recently moved to where Dongtan beach starts.

In my personal opinion, the Dongtan Beach does need to have its beach erosion repaired because whenever we have an intense monsoon rain storm - the sand underneath the beach sidewalk gets eroded away and can collapse.  Recently a small section, near where the daily Dongtan aerobics takes place collapsed and they already replaced the sand underneath the sidewalk foundation to keep it from collapsing further.

he was able to scare away Peter's crows - no crows here - but too many pigeons...

This was exactly my first reaction. Panic set in. Until I read the rest of your post. Thanks for the detailed explanation. I am now convinced that there will still be enough beach to spend the days.
