As reported many times previously in this Gay Pattaya section of our forum - this PSA is to make all of you who are:

• planning vacations/holidays in the next imminent high season (October 2026 - February 2027),
• seasonals who will return to Pattaya / Jomtien,
• or live here and are very aware about the situation.

This project commenced in 2020 much further down south in the Na Jomtien area (under Phase 1) and is now in Phase 2 - as of today (August 2026) has reached the police box where Dongtan beach starts (heading northbound).

I believe that they will enter into the area of Dongtan beach either later in September or early October.

The locals have explained the sand replenishment/nourishment process/procedure to me as follows:

• clear the existing beach of the vendors / beach establishments,
• erect a fence on the beach sidewalk so that people don't inadvertently walk into an active operation and get hurt,
• scrape back the existing top white sand,
• dredgers off-shore port the sand that they have dredged / collected from the bottom of the sea is transferred onto the pump boat,
• off-shore pump boat has a long white pipe attached to it where the pump boat pumps the freshly dredged sand onto the shore,
• bulldozers move this dark sand onto the areas of the beach that need to be widened - or as they say locally, "nourished",
• bulldozers try to cover the darker sand with the previous white sand - often there is not enough white sand - so I heard (not confirmed) that there is another process where a ship goes to some of the many offshore uninhabited small islands and "borrows" its white sand to cover the darker sand on Jomtien beach.
• everything is smoothed out by the bulldozers,
• restored and enlarged beach is reopened to the beach vendors and beach goers,
• mother nature continues her natural erosion process.

The end result is very impressive and if you take a walk southbound towards Jomtien Beach / Na Jomtien - you can see what the beach looks like after this amazing beach erosion transformation has been completed.

The purpose of this PSA is to hopefully answer the question, "will this negatively impact my planned vacation (return to Jomtien)?"

Yes, but only in 300-metre sections - as the beach sand replenishment nourishment project is moving northbound (towards the gay beach area) in 300-metre segments. Since the area north of the Dongtan police box extends for approximately 1.7km, divided by 300 metre segments, which means that the project will move around 6 more times until its completion - with it completing each 300 metre section in about a 4 to 8 week window.

So, to enjoy your vacation - just move to an area that is not yet impacted - OR - has already been completed.

One caveat, Grok is telling me that the tract from the Dongtan police box up until the northern point of Yin Yom beach (north of the gay volleyball area and Pattaya Park Tower) is out of scope for this project.  We will know very shortly if this is true - because the dredgers have recently moved to where Dongtan beach starts.

In my personal opinion, the Dongtan Beach does need to have its beach erosion repaired because whenever we have an intense monsoon rain storm - the sand underneath the beach sidewalk gets eroded away and can collapse.  Recently a small section, near where the daily Dongtan aerobics takes place collapsed and they already replaced the sand underneath the sidewalk foundation to keep it from collapsing further.

With us definitely in the monsoon rainy season - there has recently been some intense rain storms where noticeable beach erosion has already taken place in the Dongtan beach area:

In the above photo, you can see that the storm waves have already started to destroy the foundation of the Dongtan Beach road. This is directly in front of The Heritage Beach Resort - which is just after the gay volleyball courts.

In the below photo - which is at the edge of the Dongtan beach pavillion where the daily aerobic classes take place - you can see that the sea is already washing away part of the foundation of the Dongtan beach sidewalk. They keep filling it in with sand - but as you can see in the upper right corner - the sand already has a steep downward slope from the erosion.

I was chatting with a forum member today and he was asking if the rain is intense in these days. I will let this sexy guy Misha be your testimony (see his recent Instagram post below) - as he can be found frequently working out at the outdoor Bamboo Gym - which is directly adjacent to the gay volleyball area - of what a recent rain storm was like here in Jomtien:

Hold your hopes in check: This is Thailand. Just because a beach needs repair does not mean repair there will be. Much depends on things like how much of the allocated budget is left after someone somewhere has skimmed off his share. Of course I too wish you're right.... but one nevers knows in this country.

It seems that the YES vote is winning out over the NO votes (at least 80% of the locals were voting no). They should have put this up on one of the prediction markets like Kalshi or Polymarket - as the YES vote camp would have won a lot of money.

I was away in Bangkok for 5 days and prior to me leaving for Bangkok they were completing the sand renourishment dredging works at the Dongtan police box. Yesterday, I took a walk along the Dongtan beach and I was surprised to see that they have now moved 300 meters north and are continuing the project into the Dongtan beach area. Currently they walled the area from the Dongtan police box all the way up to the Avalon Beach Resort and View Talay 5 condos and they are now currently bulldozing the new sand that has been dredged up from the bottom of the sea onto Dongtan beach.

It seems that they have funding for this Phase 2 of the project through 13 July 2027 and they are able to complete 300 meter sections in about 6 to 8 weeks each. The distance from the Dongtan police box to where the beach ends at YinYom beach is 1.4 kilometers - so in theory they would need 5 more cycles of 300 meters each to complete the work - where each cycle takes about 7 weeks on average - they would need 8 to 9 more months to complete the work and they have funding for 10 more months - so, perhaps the project can truly be completed as planned and funded for.

@spoon The beach concession where sexy Htoo worked is now closed (I believe that it was concession station #37) for 6 to 8 weeks due to the above mentioned beach renourishment dredging project. Perhaps he went back to Myanmar? He was around last week as I would see him often.

So, for those coming to Jomtien over the next 8 to 9 months you may need to adjust where you go to enjoy the gay beach. Just remember that the official gay beaches are more further north in the area of concession stations from #25 through #10. Rainbow Beach #20 / #25

I wish that they could urgently move this beach sand renourishment project over to in front of the Heritage Beachfront Resort / View Talay 3 area - as almost ALL of the protective beach sand has already eroded away with the current nasty monsoons that have invaded Pattaya - because now the sea waves are crashing onto the foundation that holds up the Dongtan Beach road. At the rate that they are moving, it might not be until another 4 to 5 more months before they arrive into this area - and perhaps by then the Dongtan Beach road will have already collapsed into the sea - which would create a big inconvenience in this area.

Thanks for the heads up! Alas its been a while since ive been to pattaya so i havent meet him for a while, and he is now attached lol

When I was in Pattaya two weeks ago (which now seems like an eternity ago), the "restoration" was already reaching the police box. That made me wonder where the homeless meth heads who normally sleep behind the police box for shelter were going to relocate to. I do hope that some thought has been given to them.

While the Jomtien/Dongtan beach needs restoration, it could also be a double-edged sword. During the Covid period, when Thailand was closed to arrivals, they began the restoration of Pattaya Beach, and the result is quite beautiful. The beach is wide and the sand very fine, unlike the sand on Jomtien beach which feels like it is trying to devour your feet

The problem with the improvement of Pattaya Beach is that is resulted in absolute infestation of Indians who started sleeping on the beach, either in rented chairs or who even on mats and towels, rather than booking hotel rooms. I assume that probably a dozen of them would pool together to rent one room where they could dump their rubbish and, occasionally, bathe. That may explain why many of them smell like walking armpits.

Fortunately, Pattaya authorities cracked-down and the problem has greatly been minimised.

The number of Indians on Dongtan Beach has visibly increased already. More space and lax enforcement may make it a new hangout place for that lot. Then again, there are worse things than Indians.

The notion of an "official gay beach" in Jomtien seems a bit daft and outdated to me. Apart from those silly rainbow flags, there is nothing to distinguish what you find at those stalls from any other - well, the rainbow flags and the ghastly geriatrics in speedos. I was recently treated to some old fart who resembled an 80 year old Quasimodo in very, very, brief trunks. Why? He certainly wasn't looking for a tan since he lay under the umbrellas the whole time. He was accompanied by a loud-mouthed American queen in her 50s or 60s. If the culprit is on here, perhaps he can answer the question "Why?"

Rainbow flags or not, I have regularly seen obviously straight Russians, singly or in groups, at those same concessions - and occasionally Indians in groups.

Also, the "gay" section today is largely served by Burmese who are born a thousand kilometers away from the nearest beach and definitely do not have beach boy vibes. The Burmese will be more covered-up than an Afghan bint in a burqa when the sun is up. They don't quite seem to get the concept of the area and are not nearly anywhere as much fun as the Thai beach boys.

There is not really much to see or anything unique to do in the "gay section" and the rainbow flags are, largely, a gay tourist trap. I find the non-gay sections, where you still have some Thai boys working, more authentic. But to each their own. Some are more comfortable going where they have always gone. Fair enough.

I guess it's a generational thing where older farang who are probably deep in the closet back home like the idea of a separate gay beach, gay-only hotels and gay-only entertainment venues.
