E gates at Suvarnabhumi!

This article just appeared in my loyaltylobby inbox. I lack the skill to quote the whole article, but it says the gates are now in operation! Usual suspects included, UK, USA, etc.

If true great news. No sign of this on Fruday, when I arrived, hopefully other members will be able to test. I am back from Cambodia next Saturday, so will test then. Would be manna from heaven!

  • This video adequately explains the use of the e-gates.

Once upon a time, I think I wrote here that I have mixed feelings about e-gates - the usual paranoia that I have no entry stamp or exit stamp in my passport to show that I have not overstayed, in case some corrupt official wants to earn extra money by claiming otherwise.

On the other hand, as more and more countries adopt the technology, it was proving embarrassing to have an abundance of Thailand immigration stamps in my passport, compared to increasingly non existent stamps from other countries I have visited. My passport, with too many Thai stamps, was almost inviting questions from other countries' immigration officials! So maybe it's good now to have e-gates.

you are right, every second time I'm coming home officers are asking me "why are you going there so often ?"

Why is it "embarrassing to have an abundance of Thailand immigration stamps in your passport"? Don't they know that you go to Thailand to reflect, meditate, make merit, visit temples and study Thai language and culture? Surely I'm not the only one who do these things? 🤔😇

I specifically decided to use my non-US passport for entry into Thailand this time. I wasn’t able to use it for the E gates because I had never used it before to enter Thailand. However, in the future, I will be able to use that passport on the E gates, bypassing, hopefully the huge lines.

Shame that the Bedlam 'hospital' is no more.

I hear that there is a prison in Kabul, which is not much more than a hole in the ground?

Which would be fitting as he couldn't tell his arse from a hole in the ground.

What's wrong with Broadmoor?

Nothing, if that's where you feel you'll get the best treatment. Have you considered Ashworth and Rampton Secure? And if none suits, there's always a balcony in Pattaya...

Back on topic, almost. Leaving through Suvarnabhumi. One member mentioned that the Priority Lane/Fast track at departures was closed. Refurbishment. Indeed it is, but there is a temporary Fast track close by. This i used, and no wait at all, through in 2 minutes, then through the electronic departures gate, no line, and onwards. Rather good!

Well the temporary one had all the usual signs, as to who was allowed, I got in as an oldie, plus aircrew. So I assume it will continue. Contrary to another member's comment, they were checking entitlement closely, i had to point at my dste of birth in my passport.

Well as long as they don't have to use carbon dating as a method of verification you're alright. 😉

There are plenty of cheap hotels there where you can vacate room after the session without much of financial pain felt
