June 9, 20251 yr Active Members Downtown Los Angeles was blocked off yesterday due to violent protests of Trump's immigration actions. Waymo vehicles were especially targeted, for reasons not clear to me (perhaps because they're driverless, so nobody gets hurt?).
June 9, 20251 yr There are always provocateurs infiltrating and looking for the opportunity to provoke violence - overshadowing those peacefully or non-violently exercising their rights to protest. Anarchists oftentimes believe if they provoke violence and innocent demonstrators are roughed up by police, arrested, the masses will rise up and overthrow whichever government they protest. It's part of the playbook ... and President Trump is just waiting for situations such as this to exercise his authoritarian tendencies.

With all of those statements, when they were said and in what context is what matters. The violence was pretty much limited to Sunday, and during the daylight hours, not at night (though I realize that in Russia, daylight is present for almost 24 hours in June, but not in LA, when the violence was quelled by around 7 PM). And, of course, carrying a flag is never illegal in the US, though of course that doesn't extend to vandalism and/or violence. Try to carry a rainbow flag in Russia, though, or even wear a small one on your shirt, and see what happens.

June 11, 20251 yr More interesting and within topic is question: When did the LA mayor lie - when she said the city was "calm" or when she announced a curfew?

June 13, 20251 yr Squatters broke into your house at night and settled in. And when you tried to throw them out, they started smashing your house and burning cars in the garage. And while you're fighting them, the mayor of your town is telling on TV that everything is fine in the city. That's what's happening now.

I remember the anarchists showing up at a very small, and peaceful protest against the war in Central America in the 80s. They have been at every protest I’ve been to. They don’t give a shit about the issue people are protesting, they just want to start trouble. And then there are the Proud Boys and other right-wing groups who also infiltrate protests on the left and try to incite riots. What we should be more concerned about is a president mobilizing the National Guard and the Marines to be used against American citizens. That is the real story here.

People are being kidnapped at immigration check-in appointments and even as they go for their citizenship. “Do it legally” - they are doing it legally and it doesn’t matter. Mothers being torn away from their screaming children, children kidnapped on the way to school and volleyball practice. No warrants. No ID. No formal charges. No due process. Oh, and now Trump realizes that no one will pick our fruit and vegetables or clean his hotel rooms if he deports everyone. If this is about criminality, why aren’t they going to the places where gangs are selling drugs? I can tell you exactly where to go in SF and SFPD knows exactly where to go as well. Instead, they’re going to immigration courts and workplaces. So fuck off with your stupid analogy. And PS - everything was fine in LA before ICE showed up and Cheeto Mussolini sent in the National Guard.

June 13, 20251 yr 2 hours ago, Olddaddy said: Well ..if they want more immigration then take millions from Palestine I say , America should open up those borders and take in at least another 10 million The United States consistently accepts the highest number of immigrants annually. In 2020, the U.S. hosted over 50 million immigrants, significantly more than Germany and Saudi Arabia, which were second and third in the world, respectively. The top five countries of destination for international migrants have generally remained the same, with the U.S., Germany, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and France consistently appearing at the top.
June 13, 20251 yr OD is just stirring as usual. But of course US takes in more immigrants than the other individual countries named, as it's just about the same size as all of Europe, which takes in just as many immigrants. Quote While the US has the largest absolute number of immigrants, it's important to note that if the EU, Norway, and Switzerland were considered a single country, they would actually have more immigrants than the US. https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=Does+US+or+Europe+take+in+more+immigrants%3F&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
June 13, 20251 yr Active Members You could listen to the MAGA shills on the news and on here or ask people actually living in LA: There have been anti-ICE protests across the city, in the more affluent areas there's been restrained response (major hotel chains hosting ICE in Glendale and other suburbs, for example), in the areas where migrants and minorities actually live it's been much less restrained and then some traitorous dipshits who failed history (KENT STATE ANYONE?!) started dumping gasoline on the few embers of a flame in those areas and have still failed to actually cause the riot they're nevertheless breathlessly reporting. There are a couple large protests, mostly downtown and some smaller ones. I wouldn't fear for my safety at all to participate (except for indiscriminate use of "less-lethal" projectiles and gas by the police/etc.), or to get around the area if I needed to--though it would be inconvenient. People going to these places late in the evenings aren't the protesters and should be picked up for their crimes. LAPD is fully capable of violently repressing both the protesters and criminals without the "help" of the National Guard or especially the fucking MARINES.
