Update. The next day, my guy took his Iphone which couldn't start to MBK where he had bought it last year. It was a used Iphone 15. The shop at MBK could get it to start but it couldn't read the SIM card. So my guy had to ask for free WiFi from friends, eating places and bars. Shop at MBK said that it would cost 10 000 baht to repair. I had long discussion with my guy over a few days. Repair phone? Buy a new phone? Final conclusion - I sent him money to buy a new Iphone and this time, no more used phone! It must be brand new so buy from Apple Store Centralworld and include AppleCare which covers repairs for 2 years. My guy has been happy the past few days!

While I fully agree on a merit of buying new (my father used to say " old only violin and wine is good) I wonder if there are other brands of smartphones available than no doubt precious Iphone and if that is what , at end of day , poor people,  need to own ?

There is an obsession  with I-phones, as they are considered chic, etc. I have never used them, as I never used Apple. I am more than  happy with my dual sim Samsung, retailing at around £170.00. Only thing is it doesn't  support an e-sim. Otherwise  fine.

When I was a kid, I told my parents "all my friends are doing it".  Their reply was, go live with your friends and let their parents take care of you.  End of story 😅

In Brazil, the Iphone is also an obsession with the program guys.  I surprised a guy and bought another brand of cellphone, much-much cheaper than the IPhone, for him.  In less than a month he lost the phone!  He asked me to buy another cellphone for him but only an IPhone.   I declined, stating that those phones are too darn expensive.   Guess who stopped spending time with me?  (ha-ha).  For the price of an IPhone, I had a lot of fun with a multitude of program guys.

This thread takes me back to my early visits to Pattaya in year 2000 to 2002 as a gay sex tourist.
it was early days for mobile phones and for the boys the possession of one was a huge status symbol and could transform their daily lives. Communication for them often meant using phone boxes and internet cafes.  I remember several boys asking me to buy them one even though I had offed them only couple of times. it is now August. The weekend trip happened last month and I finally force myself to write a trip report.

The trip was supposed to be in end July but it ended up in beginning of July because I found out that a forum member would be in Bangkok for a business trip. He would have weekend free after he finish with work. Once I found out, I changed the date of my trip. I had to pay some money to change air ticket but it was OK. I had not met forum member for 2 years. We normally meet in December but the past 2 years , our dates could not match up.

With this trip, it would be my 5th trip this year.

- February (2 nights)

- March (5 nights) - Pattaya

- May (3 nights) - birthday

- June (5 nights)

It would be my second 2-night weekend trip and I have become more experienced by now.

I ended work early half day and made my way to airport directly from work. Landed in Bangkok at 6pm.

Took airport train and then BTS to Silom. I chose to stay in Ibis Styles. After checking in, I crossed the road to soi 4 to meet regular massage guy at Adam Massage at 7.30pm. One hour massage then dinner with forum member at G's which is a few metres diagonally opposite.

 

Forum member was already seated at G's when I finished my massage at 8.30pm. He got a great seat outside where we had fantastic view of people walking into soi 4. I saw 2 waiters I knew reporting to work at Circus and Jupiter. I called them over, chatted with them and gave them small tip. A waiter at Banana was so cute that I couldn't resist slipping him a 100 baht tip when we finished dinner and left.

Forum member and I were joined by his friend who also came to Bangkok for few days. I met him a few years ago. Both of them are into massage scene. They recommended me many massage shops including a premium one with heated massage bed!

After dinner, the 3 of us went off towards Freshboys. Since there were 3 of us and we would be calling down guys from stage and chatting with them, I decided to order a bottle of Chivas. 4000 baht. It was great value for money for a big group to drink. Each of us got a guy for the night. We stayed until midnight and watched the big cock show. 6 guys did big cock show. We tipped them all.

Total 33 guys working on that particular Friday night according to mamasan. My regular guy was happy to see me. He knew in advance I would off him for 2 nights. He told me start of low season so many Vietnam guys went back. Freshboys once had more than half of its guys consisting of Vietnamese guys but tonight, there were only 8 guys - #1, #11, #16, #17, #21, #23, #38, #39. That's a quarter. Actually, there was a 9th Vietnamese guy working but he's the DJ! I suspected it because he slipped in some Vietnamese dance music. I asked my guy and he confirmed his nationality. After leaving Freshboys. our group went to Foodland for supper. Overnight shift staff welcomed me back and gave me a "didn't he just come last month?" look. After supper, we went our separate ways back to hotel rooms.

I have never been much of a bar person, so I'm not sure the go-go clubs would be something I would enjoy aside from the novelty of seeing the shows one time.  I am probably more of a massage type person, so would be interested in learning what tips and recommendations your fellow forum member shared.  That will probably be the focus of my upcoming trip in October.  

Also curious about the waiters you mentioned.  What places do you visit where the waiters are possibly available for something more?  Even though I am not a bar person, sitting at an outside bar or restaurant getting to enjoy the scenery as well as the possibility of some company and attention from waiters would be a nice change for me.

My January trip was on steps of pervious in November one. Lady at Madrid Caffe when I went for pizza dinner last in beginning of January trip welcomed me " oh, you still here? last time you told me you are leaving in few days"

All waiters are available in go-go bars and the like.   Not available to 'off' in places like Balcony, Circus or Connections but many would be agreeable to a meet up after closing (and NO off fees).

The room at Ibis Styles had a window so there was natural light coming into the room during daytime. Better than the room I was assigned in May which had no window.

Saturday morning passed by quickly. Breakfast at Foodland and lunch at local Thai boat noodles shop at nearby soi 3. I enjoyed a swim at the pool then in mid afternoon I met a forum member for coffee and chat about the latest happenings. He recommended some new staff at massage shop on Soi 6 and I took up one recommendation to make a booking for myself on Sunday noon before my flight back to Singapore in evening.

take an advice from old vinapu i.e . me and make a point of visiting every bar at least once during your trip as you never know where you will find your treasure
