This is what happened to me in Fresh Boy Bangkok last year: I was sitting alone inside the bar with a drink. A Viet boy walked by and saw me. Since he knew me, he stopped to have a little chitchat. A few minutes later, Mamasan (the big one) called out to him and said something in Thai. She looked kinda annoyed. The boy then told me in Vietnamese "We are not allowed to talk to customers like that without a drink" and then left.

In Pattaya, I usually sit with a boy for about an hour. My usual rule is: one drink (cost 150B) and 300B tips. Boy can order a second drink and his tip reduced to 150B  He can also order 3 drinks within an hour and no tips given in that case. Boys always went with the first option: one drink and 300B tips.

Good luck sitting with a boy for one hour in Bangkok and only one drink! Mamasan will chase them up on stage for rotation after 30 minutes or even less!

Writing this from McDonald's Silom Road branch after lunch and waiting for massage at 4pm.

My guy was supposed to be away in Vietnam from end January to October to build his house.

But prices of construction materials increased this year and he needed to fork out more money so he decided to return to work in Bangkok during Songkran.

It happened to be my birthday a few days ago so I decided to come to Bangkok for a weekend trip to celebrate belated birthday.

I got off work at 2:30pm then took 5:30pm flight from Singapore. Arrived at 7pm and took leisurely ride on airport train and BTS to Silom.

I met my guy who was waiting for me outside his bar Fresh Boy. I paid for 2 nights off fee and off we went to check in at 56 Surawong to be reacquainted...

56 Surawong cost US$40 per night. Other hotels cost more than US$50. A new addition to the room is the safe deposit box. I don't remember it being there last year. Great location but not for light sleepers due to Surawong Road traffic.

After my guy and I finished our reacquaintance, we headed out to Prime for massage. Alas, fully booked until midnight so they closed the shop. So my guy and I went to Urban Thai and we got Thai massage side by side upstairs by two male masseurs. We finished our massage after midnight. When we went downstairs, the staff were closing up. I went back to hotel room as I had to take my medication while my guy went to meet his friends after they finished work at their bars. We had arranged an after-work party at Happy Beer Garden.

Happy Beer Garden has an upstairs area in case all tables are full downstairs. It can also be used for private party which is what I basically did. There are two long tables with benches on both sides which was perfect for our gathering of ten - four from Dreamboys, three from Good Boy, two from Freshboy and me. There is also a television and connected sound system which my guy could connect his phone and play Vietnamese songs instead of default Thai music. We were there from 1:00am and stayed until closing time at 4:00am.

My guy got me a slice of cake from Foodland supermarket and he organised a happy birthday singalong. Even the Happy Beer Garden aunties joined in! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

We were allowed to smoke in the upstairs area. Most of the guys smoked. I had a chance to see and try Vietnamese cigarette. Thin sticks but strong taste. And cheap! One box is equivalent of 20 baht! One of the guys brings cartons in as he prefers them to cigarettes sold in Thailand.

Happy birthday, Jason. The higher rooms seem to have a safe, and even 2 mugs, and are further away from the traffic noise.

As long as the window faces Surawong Road, the traffic noise is unavoidable even if the room is at a higher floor.

I was given room on 6th floor. Last year, I was on 3rd floor.

I see the mugs and the hairdryer which my guy was happy to use to blowdry his hair!

Total cost of the party was 9400 baht. Half was on food and the other half on beer. Happy Beer Garden didn't offer beer towers so we ordered big bottles of Leo beer (150 baht each). Every time we finished the beer, we ordered one round of 5 bottles. I paid with ten 1000 baht notes. I gave 100 baht tip each to the 3 staff assigned to serve us.

Not all of the guys arrived at 1am when we started the party. Those from Good Boy came after 2am as their bar only closes at 2am. One Dreamboy guy came at 3am because he went with customer to DJ Station. Some of those who came at 1am left midway as they have other prior engagements. But most of them were there during happy birthday song. Besides celebrating my birthday, the dinner was also a farewell to my guy. His two month visa is up next week and he is going back to Vietnam and continue with construction of his house. The new rules only allow two 60-day visits in one year so he had to strategise and he decided on April-May Songkran and December-January Christmas New Year high seasons. He will try to obtain a one year work visa next year in 2027.

Most of the guys were half drunk when we ended party at 4am. I believe only 2 of them could still continue drinking. They have formidable reputation of drinking. My guy was definitely half drunk. He was talking very loudly. He definitely needed to lie down and sleep. Even I needed proper sleep. I had been up for close to 24 hours as I had gone to work the previous day. We both agreed he should go back to his room and sleep till late afternoon. I would meet him on Saturday evening.

One doesn't need to go far to see difference. Many times I visited boys bars in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh and while my tips were always welcomed, perhaps even expected, at not time ever I felt I was pressured to provide one way it's done in , at least some, Thai bars . So person with Cambodian experience only may be one who is unwillingly  stingy in Thai bar  thinking that buying boy drink is generous enough.

I don't even start with those coming from cultures where tipping is completely foreign concept.

 

  

if I am buying drinks even though I am basing my experience off of Brazil. I order the strongest tasty drink for them. Maybe even making it a double. So that they will be less argumentative when it come to me getting that ass I want. Especially stubborn tops. But I will still top I mean TIP lol them. For service but the tip will be based on how good the service was. So I guess they are getting one anyway. But I will do it at the end but not because I am taking them back to my Airbnb.

Saturday morning came and I got up only because I was hungry. Off to Foodland I went for breakfast and I made it in time at 8:45am for 84 baht American breakfast special. After that, it was back to hotel to continue sleeping. In the afternoon, I went out to Centralworld for some shopping. I had planned schedule such that I would be back in Silom by 4 to get a massage from a regular guy at Adam Massage on Soi 4. Excellent service as always. The only drawback about Adam Massage is that there's no en suite shower in massage room. When I went up to the room, there was another massage guy who brought his farang customer up behind us. They took the room just beside us. I could hear their conversation - how are you, where you from, how many days in Bangkok etc. I didn't need to chat with my massage guy. He knows what I like and he got to work straightaway. I enjoyed his massage so much that I dozed off for 15 minutes. When I woke up, it was fun time and I enjoyed myself thoroughly. After we finished, we left the room to shower. I took a look at the next room next door. It was empty! The customer had started later than me and ended earlier than me! 🤣

After massage, I went back to room and watched Netflix. My guy woke up at 6pm and he messaged me. We met for dinner then we visited friends at the bars, starting with the Myanmar waiters at Midnight beer bar. While I got reacquainted with Z (and we made arrangement for him next time to take me to gay disco at h.i.m. bar that opens at 4am), P appeared with checkers set. "One game?" he asked with a cheeky smile. Yes sure but I was off-form and I lost. I slipped him 100 baht note. If P had lost, he would have to take off his T-shirt to reveal his hunky body - which he did several times in the past. But not tonight. We played a second game and I lost again. Grrr. I will have to wait for the next trip for a chance to beat him and make him take off his T-shirt.

Next stop was Good Boy bar where I bought drinks for two Viet guys who had attended my birthday party last night. My guy preferred not to go in and he waited outside, watching Tiktok videos. It was 9 plus and I was the only customer. After 15 minutes, I said goodbye and gave the two guys a small tip before meeting my guy outside.
