As of the moment of this post, the US dollar to baht exchange rate has slipped to 37.22. Two years ago, if you exchanged US $1000, you would have received about 45,000 baht. What, if any, benefits are there to obtaining a retirement visa? Obviously, not making the many border runs is a big plus. For now, I do not mind making a trip every three months. BANGKOK, Aug 18 (FAO/TNA) United Nations officials in Bangkok Thursday confirmed that the recent outbreak of avian influenza along the Thailand-Laos Mekong River border area was due to a strain of virus not previously present in either country, and that it probably came from southern China. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) also said that the outbreak in Phichit province was a re-emergence of the H5N1 virus previously active in Thailand, and that governments needed to be more attentive to cross-border trade in poultry. BANGKOK, Aug 17 (TNA) Transport Minister Pongsak Raktapongpaisal on Thursday affirmed the Suvarnabhumi Airport is ready to open for commercial services on September 28, but might have some problems on equipment transfer in an initial period.
