  1. I order 50 or so packages a year to be delivered in Thailand. Mostly books and smaller items. But, since CoVid19, nothing. They will not even ship books to Thailand. I do wonder who long this will last? Likewise, I-Herb is not shipping to Thailand now as they did before. Once these shipping routes open up again, I'll be thrilled to once again use them as my cart in both is getting too full!

  2. The Pope says to Trump, “Do you know that with one little wave of my hand I can make every person in this crowd go wild with joy? This joy will not be a momentary display, like that of your followers, but go deep into their hearts and for the rest of their lives whenever they speak of this day, they will rejoice!” Trump replies, “I seriously doubt that, with one wave of your hand? Show me!” So the Pope slapped him.

  3. He's hot and miserable, so he decides to take action. The A/C has been busted for a long time, so he fixes it. Things cool down quickly. The moving walkway motor is jammed, so he unjams it. People can get from place to place more easily. The TV was grainy and unclear, so he fixes the connection to the satellite dish, and now they get hundreds of high def channels. One day, God decides to look down on Hell to see how his grand design is working out and notices that everyone is happy and enjoying umbrella drinks. He asks the Devil what's up? The Devil says, "Things are great down here since you sent us an engineer." "What?" says God. "An engineer? I didn't send you one…

The NY Times, of all places, today pits one young reporter against the Pulitzer-Prize winning Ronan Farrow. Yes, it's Ben Smith, formerly of the defunct Buzzfeed, going against New Yorker writer Ronan Farrow. Farrow leads Smith in Pulitzer prizes 1-0. One wonders what the true story is between these men as most agree that the Times has better things to do than pick on Ronan. The Daily Dot does a good job of analyzing the fight: https://www.dailydot.com/debug/new-york-times-ronan-farrow-hit-piece/ Smith was a small time reporter before being made editor of Buzzfeed, where Wikipedia says he ran into problems of his own: In December 2011, he wa…

Actor Ken Osmond, who played Eddie Haskell on Leave It To Beaver, died today in Los Angeles at the age of 76. The NY Daily News reports: "Osmond’s character on the iconic 1950s sitcom was famous for falsely flattering adults in one scene and then scheming behind their backs in the next. He was so memorable in the role, he found it difficult to get other acting work when the beloved show that ran from 1957 to 1963 on CBS and NBC finally ended." Variety reports: Osmond portrayed Haskell as sycophantic to grownups while making fun of them behind their backs. He was a high school friend of Wally Cleaver, older brother of Theodore “the Beaver” Cleaver, and constantl…

I always make fan of friends who complain about the good old times, because all they are doing is showing that they are not aging well. Of course I am just venting to take out of my shoulders my own dinosaur gens. Tech and virtual socialization have been some of the challenges that I have taken with a good attitude but uneven outcomes, and where sometimes I surprise myself longing for the "old good times" when we cruised face to face and hooked up in bars, clubs, parks, and streets. Even when I am not skillful to navigate social settings, and appreciate many of the advantages of distant cruising, I do miss those times. I am here, sank in virtuality, reading how peop…

The long-time place to go for news in the Bay Area has been the Bay Area Reporter, a classy gay newspaper that I used to read regularly. With advertising down for all newspapers, we need to support the BAR and perhaps throw in a few bucks for the struggling staff. No one gets rich working for the BAR, just satisfied at being a part of it. Here's the link to the info on the topic: https://www.ebar.com/index.php?id=292168

From South China Morning Post Qatar Airways, the third-largest shareholder in Cathay Pacific, said it was willing to provide an equity injection into Hong Kong’s financially battered flagship carrier if approached. “Cathay is a well-established company and as a shareholder, if Cathay Pacific were to approach us for an equity injection, we will definitely support them,” Al Baker, Group CEO of the Doha-based carrier, told the Post. Qatar said it was in a position to help, despite being hit hard by the collapse in global air travel demand. The airline holds a 9.99 per cent stake in Cathay and previously expressed interest in raising its …

From South China Morning Post Why are men more likely to get Covid-19? High levels of enzyme ACE2 may make infection easier Men’s blood has higher levels than women’s of a key enzyme the new coronavirus uses to infect cells, a finding which may help explain why men are more vulnerable to infection with Covid-19, the results of a big European study suggests. Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is found in the heart, kidneys and other organs. In Covid-19, the respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus, it is thought to play a role in how the infection progresses into the lungs. The study, published in the European Heart Journal, a…

From CNBC Airbnb hosts are building their own direct booking websites in revolt Short-term rental hosts are banding together and launching their own direct-booking websites in an effort to diversify their business after years of mounting frustration with Airbnb and other short-term rental providers. Some of these websites were already in the works. But many hosts have recently prioritized their own direct-booking websites after a turbulent past two months, as the coronavirus pandemic spurred widespread cancellations and many grew unhappy with Airbnb’s reimbursement policies. Although these independent websites lack the consumer base that comes…

It all started a few weeks ago when photos of the army’s elite devision, La Legión, began recirculating on social media after it had been deployed to help manage the country’s coronavirus outbreak. As everyone was quarantined in their homes, they began re-sharing photos of the soldiers in their signature pastel green uniforms, tight-fitting pants, and distinctively low-cut shirts. The Spanish Army creating a lockdown looks gayer than any gay pride event I’ve ever attended.

The Death of Expertise Is an article on PBS that speaks to what I think is one of the most dangerous phenomenons in our contemporary life. The Internet has empowered everybody to be able to express an opinion, so now vast swaths of the world want to replace actual knowledge with their fact free opinions. Moron culture thrives cause everybody is entitled to their opinion, right? Never mind that people think the right to that opinion means they have the right to be respected for whatever idiocy they've espoused. Being locked in the house all day watching so many of my fellow Americans demonstrate their stunning idiocy has not been that good for my mental heal…

  17. According to a widely cited 2016 study by JP Morgan Chase, half of all small businesses have enough cash on hand to survive for only 27 days without new money coming in the door. The bar and restaurant industry tends to be particularly vulnerable. The average small service business has enough money on hand to survive just 19 days without any income. Brick-and-mortar businesses like restaurants tend to particularly struggle when it comes to saving up this kind of so-called buffer capital because they generally have to maintain high overhead costs. Rent, debt, fixtures, taxes, payroll, service contracts, utilities, insurance and more all add up to a monthly overhead b…

An evangelical group led by right-winger Franklin Graham has set up a hospital tent in New York's Central Park. One can argue that in the pandemic we need help from every corner, but many are wary of Samaritan's Purse: From Huffpost.com: A staunch ally of President Donald Trump, Graham has repeatedly sparked controversy for inflammatory remarks about the LGBTQ community. Previously, he’s suggested that welcoming LGBTQ people into churches or Christian households is akin to allowing Satan to “devour our homes.” In 2014, he praised Russian President Vladimir Putin’s anti-LGBTQ agenda. Last year, he denounced former Democratic presidential candidate Pete Bu…

It is hard being stuck all alone during lock-down. But, there are some items that make things more comfortable. For you what are they? For me, my Nespresso machine has been a godsend. I use it at least 5 times each day and love the flavor of the coffee. I also use my Instapot a lot. I like cooking frozen chicken with a bit of broth and spices to make pulled chicken sandwiches. Naturally, the Internet has been amazing and I can't imagine what it would be like with no Internet.
