I am going to do 2 weeks in Brazil (SP and Rio) + Montevideo and Buenos Aires, and I don’t want to be the newbie that gets screwed over the prices because he doesn’t know. I am a full-time resident of California. I plan to retire in a few years and want to spend winter in Palm Springs and the remainder of the year in either Mexico or Brasil. I left last Thursday to Brazil, and I took a flight I really don't like but it was the one that worked logistically...I thought! There is a lot of talk about this place in Rio with a new branch in Sao Paulo. Apparently a mixture of hustle-bar and back-room with labirinths, glory holes, etc, it does serve alcohol and patrons circulate in various stages of undressing and if they choose, fully clothed. Haven't been there yet (I'm out of the country), but is certainly the most talked about affair in the local social media. Not able to figure out yet the situation with GP's, if they are available and the quality. If anyone is in town or on the way please advise!

On my last weekend in Porto Alegre on Friday I followed my usual routine and went to Meezziniu around 5:00 and then at 10:00 headed over to Bar Mixx. I've noticed that some saunas and clubs in Brazil feature stripper shows, and am wondering if the concept of a private (lap) dance exists there. This might look something which the most of us would probably not even think to do. But it can happen. US citizens need a regular tourist visa. One of my best friends (who lives in Texas) came back from SP after staying for 12 days more than he was allowed to. When he went at the airport to catch is flight back to the US the police holded his passport requiring him to pay for a fine which is something like R$8 (2.5 USD) for each day of overstay. Not a big deal of course. The problem is that they will place on your passport a big stamp saying that you did not respect the visa policy. This might look a stupid topic, and probably it's not even something serious...but in the internet i am reading the same news but with many different tones. It happened that a federal court in Brazil re-enabled conversion therapies, treating gay people as disturbed people. This is confusing me, since Brazil is one of the countries with full LGBT rights, including adoption and marriage. How much of this is true and/or serious? Will this have consequences on the garotos scenario?

I have finally bit the bullet and reserved an apartment for my trip to DR for New Years versus the hotel I normally stay at... I have never rented an apartment in Rio for a few reasons... -I prefer not to have to clean up the room daily -I love the breakfast at my regular hotel -The ease and convenience of the hotel But I have had some issues with having guests come by so renting an apartment will eliminate that and the 1 bedroom I booked is in an great location close to the beach in Copa... I would bet none of these where in the tourist zone of Rio! I have gone to Chicago many times for business, never saw or came close to a crime because I don't frequent the areas where the vast majority occurs, same as I do in Rio! No matter where you go, it's about being smart about your surroundings and limiting the chances of something negative happening to you! I also frequented NYC many times in the last 80's and 90's when Hell's Kitchen was the opposite of the upscale area it is now, and never had any problems.

Previously I had requested information on this sauna, wondering if there were any nights besides Monday when this sauna thrived. No one responded. Well, last Friday night both 117 and 202 were dead. Virtually lifeless might better describe it. So we went to Meio Mundo, and it was not dead. Thriving? Perhaps. There were a lot of people there. As has been mentioned before, this sauna attracts workers who have more of a blue collar feel. The crowd is not entirely young, but is more so than 117 or 202.
