  1. Booked into PJ's Place for 8 days. Won't be getting the train, though I did look at the sleeper and was very tempted, if only to experience it. I've decided to go at the start of my holiday so will fly into Bangkok and then simply get a flight to Chiang Mai. Not a big fan of the bar scene, much more into massages, so the lack of bars won't affect me that much. The only problem is how long it is before I go. Shame I can't get another holiday in but it's not an option this year. Anyone have any information on how bad the mozzies are in November in Chiang Mai?
  2. For my next trip to LOS, in October/November, I'm thinking of wandering a bit further than my usual haunts of Pattaya and Bangkok. I'm currently thinking of spending a couple of weeks in Chiang Mai. Anyone with experience there, can you recommend gay friendly hotels or resorts? Also, is two weeks too much? Would appreciate any recent experiences. Thanks.
  3. I've never had anything but great service from them. Sure, it costs a bit more than some options but it's a whole lot less than some others and is so convenient after 24 hours travelling.
  4. Sorry, if I want sex without paying I can do that the rest of the year at home. Could I get free sex in Thailand? Probably. It's just not why I go there. My LOS trips are my 3 weeks or so a year when I can pay for great massage and great sex at any time, day or night. Mix that with the fun, food, drink and sun and it's a mix I'm happy to pay for.
  5. Actually, I hate the thought of the break up of the Union. What I hate more is the thought of rerunning the vote every two years all the while trying to see if 50.1% of Scots yet support leaving the Union. I also hate how "the English" as a whole are apparently to blame for everything that happens even when less than 30% of them actually voted to leave the EU. There are loads of problems with both the UK leaving the EU and with Scotland leaving the Union. The UK is already massively in debt and the deficit is ridiculous. The cost of all this change simply cannot be afforded at the moment and the cost of repeating referendums is simply adding insult to injury. That people both in the U.K as a whole and in Scotland think things will be better after all this is a very sad reflection on our education system. Despite all of the above though, each nation should have a right to leave the Union including England. It should however be a generational vote and the threshold should not be 50.1% of voters.
  6. No, it isn't in the hands of the English electorate. All major political parties support the Union and any vote in parliament would include Scots, Welsh and N Irish MPs.
  7. The English don't get a vote on whether to continue subsidising the rest of the UK, or go it alone, so don't twist the argument to try to make out you aren't talking complete bollocks. As for the Scots being an equal partner, a vote in Scotland counts exactly the same as a vote in the rest of the UK. Are you really stupid enough to believe that Scotland, with 10% of the population of England, should have an equal say? I guess you are. Anyhow please have your next vote and f*ck off, preferably while I'm still around to watch the consequences. As for politicians lying, you really must be incredibly gullible if you fall for their crap.
  8. Given that I look for specific things in a hotel, reviews simply give me an opportunity to scan the details for the things I want. Review scores are always skewed but the text itself will often give you a much better idea of whether you personally will like the hotel. Once I have an idea of where I want to stay I deliberately look at all the 1* and 2* reviews. This will often give you a good impression of whether the person genuinely hated the hotel or had the usual inclination of fixating on one issue and making it the hotel killer it really isn't.
  9. Poppers are not illegal in Thailand. Whether you want to risk some random bottle from a seller on the beach is a different matter.
  10. As someone above has said, the Ancient City is a good half day out if you are into that kind of thing. If you are not a keen walker, grab a golf cart as it can be very hot and tiring else. The smaller canals can also be a fun way of seeing bits of Bangkok you might not generally see if you don't use these as part of your day to day transport. Hiring a guide to pick an itinary for you for a day or two could also be fruitful if you tell him you want to avoid the main tourist sites.
  11. I read quite a few of the entries before my first trip to LOS. Enjoyed reading them and a shame it's defunct.
  12. I can't say I bother with making anything up, they can think what they like. Those that have been to Thailand themselves many times don't even ask and simply give me resorts and beaches I might like. Perhaps they suspect I partake of the local boys, perhaps not. I somehow think that it isn't even much of a thought to them.
  13. It took him that long to look up all the words. I'm not English, don't read the Daily Mail and I'm really not sure what you mean about an English mandate when the English are the only people who don't get a vote on UK independence let alone repeated votes as the Wind changes.
  14. A vote in California or New York is worth one third what a vote in Wyoming is worth. In addition, you already bias the Senate against the most populous states as every state has 2 senators regardless of population. Lastly, the electors who cast the vote can randomly decide to vote for who the hell they like based on personal feeling. Hardly democracy. Recent research of the subject suggests that the US is more of an Oligarchy than a Democracy or Republic.
  15. I only hope that those who were either Sanders voters that then didn't vote for Clinton or voted for Johnson like the world they have helped create for the next four years. Overall though it seems to me that the press is responsible for an awful lot these days. Unfortunately too many people believe the tripe that is posted as journalistic endeavour and the press can, and did, easily swing public opinion with garbage. As for the pollsters, I wonder what they actually get paid for these days as they don't seem to get much right.
  16. The electoral college means a vote in Wyoming, for instances, is worth 3 to 4 times what a vote in California or New York is worth. The distribution of democrat voters against republican voters ensures that if both sides get a similar number of votes nationally that the republicans will win the election due to the electoral college. It's a severely outdated voting system and if it were happening elsewhere in the world the US would be the first to say it wasn't democratic.
  17. The US may survive though it will likely not be the nation it is now. The laws and changes likely to be perpetrated by the extreme right wing government voted in on Tuesday, and the inevitable change in the balance of SCOTUS, will change the face of civil rights in the US and severely harm its moral authority elsewhere in the world. My main concern though is not in the US. It's the trouble spots in the world, Ukraine, North Korea, Syria where Trump does not have the experience or temperament required. Anyone thinking the world is not a more dangerous place today than it was Monday is deluding themselves.
  18. He isn't sitting until he is inaugurated is he? He has at least 2 court cases between now and then. That being said, he's a corrupt billionaire so I'm sure he can bribe enough people to make them go away.
  19. Keep thinking that as Civil Rights in the USA get pushed back 40 years. Just as idiots voted for Brexit because it was "change" people need to realise that change is not necessarily good. Donald Trump is not fit to go to the toilet without supervision. He now has a platform for his racist, sexist, agenda provided he has time to govern among the court cases he has coming up.
  20. There are electors threatening to do just that and the candidates are two of the most vilified people I've ever seen in election. Just because it hasn't happened in a while doesn't change the fact it is entirely legal to do it. Elsewhere, and already, lawsuits have started complaining about election irregularities. If someone put this in a film script they would be told it was too far fetched.
  21. People love their labels. What matters is not the label but the intent behind it. If the idea is to denigrate someone, to make them seem less than they are or to cause upset then it really doesn't matter what the label is, it's the intent that is wrong and incendiary. What's the difference between someone working on Grindr at 2000 baht a time and someone like Melania Trump selling her wares to a multi-billionaire on an LT basis. Simply the labels, the earnings and the reasons.
  22. Common sense should always prevail and not just at customs points. Unfortunate pictures on a plane for instance could cause as many, or more problems, if opened on a plane by accident.
  23. What happens if Hillary, or Trump for that matter, wins enough states to get past the 270 mark but then the Electoral College Electors decide to cast their vote for the other person to circumvent the will of the people? Due to the electoral college there are 538 people who could, in theory, ignore the popular vote and cast their electoral college votes for who, they like. There are several in Washington State threatening not to vote for Hillary even if she wins. Apparently it's perfectly allowed though they will face a $1000 fine. In theory then, the popular vote could go for Clinton, the states could go for Clinton and then a handful of people could change the entire result. How exactly is that Democracy?
  24. The problem is that two of the current justices are in their 80's and another is 78 or so. If the GOP refuse to confirm anyone Hillary nominates it is going to make a mockery of both the US form of government and of the legal system. The System only works if the president, congress and senate are of one party or if they are at least willing to work together. I would say that as an outsider it may be amusing to watch, unfortunately a lack of cooperation in the US government has implications for the rest of the world.
  25. I think people are way too paranoid about travel to tourist destinations as a single traveller. There are something like 30 million tourists go to Thailand each year. If only 5% are single men that's 1.5 million. On top of that, do you not think you would hear much more about it on these boards if people were being stopped regularly? There is much more chance of being stopped as a potential terrorist as a single man. Most of the men I go with in Thailand are in their mid twenties or older. I can't say I take photos of them unless they ask me to. The most likely source of photos on my iPad or phone would be from browsing Grindr, GR or Hornet. I do clear my browser and cache when I travel, but that's habit rather than for any concern at a border.
