I went there on a nude day as well (pre-covid) once; in the afternoon/evening. The crowd was youngish and many with hot bods though. Maybe it depends on the months etc.
In Rio, probably the best one is Rio G Spa in Ipanema. However I like those that are a bit low profile in Botafogo/Flamengo/Catete area; be warned though, they are usually a bit rundown.
BH, Tres Chic is good before Olimpo. After hours, "24 hours Sauna" near Olimpo. It is very crowded weekend. Sometime there is a queue to go in. People do smoke inside. Cig and sometime weed.
SP has a few good ones. Chilli Pepper is probably the best. Good late evening crowd. You need ID (passport) to go in though as it is marketed as a 'hotel'.
Any city in particular that you wanna know?

Salvador was the one time in Brazil where I got mugged (about 10 years ago). The historic center is like an island surrounded by very sketchy neighborhoods. This was the one city I should have heeded all the warnings about, but I was cocky from my good experiences in SP and Rio. It looked like such a short walk from my hotel in the colonial center to the sauna ...

That's what I used to think. But on this and the previous trip to Rio, I found it to have remarkably cleaned up. The area around the Copacabana Palace, which one used to be warned about, looked perfectly tame. I didn't hang out at the beach, though, which is where the trouble used to be. Barra is boring but suburban-safe. Sao Conrado is very interesting, despite or because of being right next to the largest favela in Brazil. I'm not big into hotels so I've stayed in 1/2-star places in Gloria, Catete, Lgo de Machado, which seemed quite safe because tourist-targeters don't have anyone to target. I've even stayed in Sta Teresa (an uber or steep 10 minute hike up from 117) and it was fantastic - walking around at night like in a small town, with little bars and restaurants in colonial houses.

Sunday & Monday, 2 days celibacy, well, not quite.
Spent Sunday afternoon at Ipanema watching sunset. Cute local boys hang around in groups or solo, rolling joints, drinking, having fun. So so sunset. After so many trips to Rio, almost everywhere I go now making me remember a friend or a boy.
Need to do something new, so I booked DIY bus trip to Teresópolis to hike in Serra Dos Orgaos national park. It was 1 hour drive away from Rio, two hours on bus. Nice views and solitude on a Monday hike. Had the 360 view point all to my self. You can recognize some major peaks of Rio from 50km away, sugar loaf and Corcovado.
Only run into 7 other people. Walked from the park back to bus station as i had 2 hours to kill. The city itself looks rather middle class neat. If there is a boy sauna, I would love to retire here.
Just by luck, I booked 4 pm bus returning to Rio. Had some wonderful sunset views.
Change hotel tonight. After 13 hours on the road, nice to shower and rest. Turn on grindr, this boy who is vacationing with his parents staying in the same hotel messaged me that his parents are away shopping, do i want to meet up. Had a chat at the pool, then had some fun in my room. Not the cutest, but the boy can deepthroat! putting all the working boys i met this trip to shame😅in the end, i am too tired from the long day to keep a hard on for fucking though. Maybe another night.

Coincidentally, those were the two I went to. They are equal in price and quality. Given the recent issues, I don't want to "over-identify" these guys. Let's say they ARE the guys in the picture. A couple times, it took me a few minutes to confirm this, but that's because people just look different from their professional shots. If anything, the guys were a little more muscular and a few years older, but still pretty stunning.
Xtudio Lotus is in hilly aclimacao, a 20-minute walk from Paraiso metro. I had a "quatro manos" massage for 450 R. They started with rubbing my feet and legs and worked their way up. Somehow, they never got past the pelvic region, LOL, but it was better than most massages given by sex workers as there were some signs of formal training. I have never been lucky putting together a 3-way, but this one knocked it out of the park. The two guys' apparent familiarity with each other and team play experience must have helped. Mind you, there was no reciprocation or kissing but I wonder if that could be negotiated. For penetration, they wanted an extra 100 R each, which was well worth the tag-team to follow. All in all, 650 for 2 guys as hot as ever, 1 hour of sex as hot as ever. It was in a nice, clean house. The mattress was on the floor but the sheets were laundry-fresh. A spotless bathroom was down the hall.
InHouse was in Vila Mariana (a great little neighborhood to stay and eat in, by the way), also a clean, modern house. One time I must have gotten the deluxe suite with an in-room jacuzzi. The second time was more like the Lotus set-up. I engaged 1 muscle guy for 250 the first time and another 4-hands for 450 (no penetration) the 2nd time. Interestingly, not all guys would do 4-hands, which I was told when I picked the first 2 guys I wanted from their website. So InHouse told me to just come by and the talent will come out to greet you. It's not as awkward as the experience of 25 Thai boys dropping everything to line up and stare at you. LOL. It helped that the very first guy, who wasn't even on their website, already had me at ola.
I have two long-term Brazilian fixations. One of them is a Brazilian Asian stripper I saw at Lagoa some years ago. Now he's listed at one of the other agencies. We almost had a date, and then I was told he was working in Campinas that week. Oh well.
I cannot emphasize enough what a thoroughly pleasant experience this was. All 5 guys were very friendly, decent, almost charming. They all spoke some English. It's a less crazy experience than in a sauna cabine (except for the 3-way at Lotus, which got sweaty-crazy) and a more relaxing time, which was what I was after. Each time, I scheduled an appointment only 1-2 hrs in advance. A couple guys were strippers or go-gos working the night clubs later that evening, but they said they were available "full time" to come to the house for an appointment.
The saunas are rodizios - one guy after another coming around with skewers of meat. There are better and worse, but rodizios are usually quantity over quality. The massage houses are more like a la carte restaurants where you can have a limited but more leisurely repast. I used to wonder what would happen if the lumpen clay of magnificent beauty that was at Lagoa actually should get some refinement and training (by a caring, expert, and thorough trainer such as myself) to turn them into courtesans. This might be it.

Point #3; I am inclined to agree.
Best in class, over an entire month inclusive of Lagoa, a guy in one of the massage spas at 60% the cost of the former venue when accounting for admission, 1-hour cabin, and 1-hour bonus for the garoto de programa.
However, it’s worth it to utilize both formats, as entry to Lagoa is not so exorbitant even if you are just there to enjoy the energy, social interaction, and particularly entertainment on nights that is featured … as well as the possibility of a rare gem.

You are not there for a Latin lover experience or even an Omar Sharif lover. It's wham-bam-thank-you-sam. Aquarius only provides an uncomfortable massage table that you wouldn't want to spend much time on anyway.
There is so much gay sex going on in any moslem culture but it's the don't-ask-don't-tell variety. And no, they don't bang you like a female. They bang you like a worthless meat object that exists solely for their penile stimulation. Excuse me while I jump in a cold shower.

I just came back from Brazil a few weeks ago. Headlines:
    1. Didn't bother going to 555, given how mediocre even Lagoa was.
    2. Lagoa is just not like the sauna of yore in the old location. The horse-dicks are still there as well as many twinks and "veterans" (guys I passed up 5 or 10 years ago). But gone are the massive muscles and flawless beauties you want to suck face with for half an hour. Gone is the ambience of a horny frat house you can rampage through like a slutty cheerleader. On my two visits, I barely hooked up with one garoto each time.
    3. But that doesn't by any means suggest that hot muscle sex in Sao Paulo is no longer happening. The scene has moved to the "tantric massage" houses, where I found bods to compare with the best from 20 years at old Lagoa. They are more expensive and less participatory, though participation seems to be upwardly negotiable along with fees. However, one guy at a massage house (250-350 R) does not cost much more than a sauna visit where you could find only one guy to your liking (150 + ~120 sauna entry & cabin). In return, you get a much nicer room, more time, and even something almost approaching a professional massage.
    4. For nostalgia, I went to the old Lagoa site. Veterans here might remember this ritual: the shopping center with the metro stop, the Habib's for a pre- or post-snack, and what used to be the Citibank I withdrew garoto cash from. But the former happiest place on earth is now a construction site with another skinny condo tower going up.
    5. Rio was better but also subdued. Will write more about that maybe later.

There is no normal rate. It is what it is. You can do a cost-of-living or purchasing power parity comparison but that's only in broad strokes, with lots of inconsistencies. Even the famous "Big Mac Index," in my view, is distortive because what's low-brow fast food in the US is considered an exotic luxury in other countries.
FYI, when the real was born, it was 1:1 with the dollar, so that was what's intended to be "normal." When I first went to Brazil, a few years later, the rate crashed to almost 3:1 with, shockingly, no inflation. Brazil was insanely cheap then. Foolish me paid 50R for os garotos when I later surmised the going rate was closer to 20-30R. Looking back now, why didn't I just move to Brazil for a couple years?!

Valparaiso is amazing. Exercise your legs because you'll be walking and climbing hills a lot, but you can also take easy excursions to the wineries nearby. The "Switzerland-in-South-America" extends over the Andes to the Chilean side. Some small towns had places selling kaffee und kuchen - plus volcanoes and hot springs. Chile is a naturist's country so do try to get out of the city.
Near BA is San Antonio de Areco - not a big city by any means but, rather, a small town that retains some of its colonial layout and a lot of its gaucho culture. It has dude ranches (I stayed at a gorgeous one that has since been converted to a $700/night Relais and Chateau property) and the best empanadas I've ever eaten. Colonia del Sacramento is interesting too. It's a tiny place and requires a bit of planning with the ferry, which was hours behind schedule when I did it many years ago.

I've been to Aquarius on 2 trips. All the guys asked for lira. On my first trip some ten years ago, one guy asked for euros - 250! - and seemed relieved when I said no. He was the bartender and didn't seem enthused about the extra services.
Last summer, Aquarius, like much of Istanbul, had all the right signs up but nobody was complying or enforcing. The establishment was officially in shut down but someone stood out front and if you looked like a potential customer, he would lead you through the lights-out front office and down into the bath. I thought the offering was mediocre but the guys were friendly and not pushy.

If you have the time to do a drive down to Cuenca, a smaller version of Quito (I've heard a few people say Cuenca was what they had expected Quito to be), you will see some of the most gorgeous scenery in South America along the way, including the valley of the volcanoes (weather-permitting, of course, as it can be rainy and cloudy in the Andes). The highway is now very good and the drive can be done in about 6 hours. However, if you break it into 2-3 days, you can also detour to the Quilotoa crater lake for more deserty scenery or to Banos for a more jungle/tropical feel. An hour up the mountains from Cuenca is the Cajas park, a high altitude moor-like watershed with lakes and orchids and fresh trout. Honestly, I know of few other countries with such incredibly diverse and beautiful scenery crammed in a small area, and we haven't even talked about the Galapagos Islands yet. But I can't help you much on the more carnal attractions.

I read it several years ago and wondered whether I ever crossed paths with the writer in one of the places. It is very much an academic book, with academic concepts like "performative labor" to wrap your head around, and a sense that everything is to prove a main thesis. But that's how academic anthropology is like and it's still a very interesting book on sex, race, class, and gender. I also love the idea of someone going to a whorehouse - "just to write my dissertation, ma'am." With Mitchell, I could believe it!
I'd be interested in an anthropological discussion of the clients. Hmmm, maybe that's why I'm here.

Sounds like I need to check out Montreal. I admit to being near-virginal when it comes to lap dancing. One bar in Mexico City, can't remember whether he even let me get to 2nd base. Didn't have a chance to check out the top floor of Gigolo House in Bogota. But at Lagoa and a couple bars in Brazil, the stripper could be quite interactive. The nisei gogo boy I've been obsessing over actually guided my shy hand to the adventurous regions. So yeah, I could see Lagoa taking a small further step. That said, I'm not as optimistic about any expanded talent pool. A modicum of ability is required, and a lame-dancing stripper can be downright cock-wilting. Maybe forget the dancing and turn it into an amateur grope-a-thon?
Sex industries might also be culturally determined. Just as I can't imagine any other country fully replicating the peak Brazilian sauna scene, maybe lap dancing won't translate to a country where far more services can be had for decades now.
