  1. he needs to learn the vinapu many pockets method
  2. It's a different era now with much more specialization. There's a niche for everyone. Today's megastars like Taylor Swift will continue on for a while. But she'll be a billionaire if she isn't already so there might not be as much urgency to keep going. I'd image that Mick and the boys have more money than they'll ever need too - and certainly Paul McCartney is beyond wealthy. I wonder if the fact that it took them a good while to get that wealthy makes a difference. But I suppose once you have performed so many huge shows it probably gets to be a bit of an addiction.
  3. I wonder if perhaps it's the British version of "pants" not the N. American version of "pants"
  4. That's a good question. If I have the cash in small enough denomination I will tip a little. But I don't think it's expected unless they're schlepping a lot of luggage for you. I usually give them my credit card in advance on the form so they just charge the ride to that.
  5. I suppose tipping the boys exclusively doesn't pay the bar's bills
  6. that doesn't seem to bode well for Thailand's future
  7. I think that might be on the right track. Perhaps she was afraid of being accused of nepotism or was afraid that if something went wrong it would damage her relationship with you. Did you find out how the neighbors found out about the family business?
  8. I watched a couple of very good documentaries on YouTube in the last couple of days about the origins of the issues. Quite interesting history. It's difficult to see that there's any resolution on the horizon
  9. I just book on the website. splimousine.com They have a web form you can fill out. They give you the location of their staff at the airport. They'll have a paper with your name on it big enough to see as you walk up. The lady who runs the operation radios for the car and walks you out to the curb and you hop in and go. I usually book a week or so in advance of my trip
  10. I have some gay friends in Texas. But I wouldn't want to live there either. I can see the argument about changing a place from within...the whole idea that progressives should move to the "red" states and take them over. But I don't know that I personally have the energy for it.
  11. I have a young Indian friend here who is a university student. He spent his summer back home in India interning at the Supreme Court in relation to this issue. I'll have to send him a note.

    Korat?

I went to Korat many years ago. Used it as a base for day trips to Phnom Rung and Phimai. It's a big-ish regional center.
  13. some insurance info that might be useful
  14. my parents' house had this problem. They tried the heat treatment but it didn't work. Ended up having to get the house tented and poison pumped in. That solved their problem. Cost about $2000 for their small house.
  15. A Chromebook is a laptop form factor, but instead of running Windows or MacOS it runs ChromeOS. Most of what you do is in the Chrome web browser but you can also install Android apps and use those. I use mine mostly for basic web surfing, email and some YouTube viewing. There is a wide range of prices and hardware specs. My current Chromebook is from Asus but it was more of a high end choice. As noted HP, Acer, Lenovo, and Samsung are all in the Chromebook game.
  16. Depending what you need to do, you might consider a Chromebook. I am using one at this very moment. For things like web surfing and email it's plenty. The brand you linked to I have never heard of. The processor is also fairly low power. But if you aren't doing anything too intensive it might be fine.
  17. Maybe not "offable" in the traditional sense, but you never know. I am a total sucker for tall building observation decks. On my last visit I chose an Airbnb at Ashton Chula partly for the high floor pool deck views which did not disappoint.
  18. Perhaps he was distracted by his stage performance beforehand
  19. Exactly, that's more of what I had in mind. I haven't seen any reports recently of gays being dragged out of their bedrooms though
  20. I would imagine you have to be more careful in those types of ultra-religious places though
  21. even most independent hotels I stay in now have online booking available as well. I just booked a place in Ubon Ratchatani by the Lao border that offered easy online booking. Granted it's a more upscale place so maybe they have to do it for their clientele. But unless you're staying in a very rustic place you should find online booking. There are lots of little chains in Thailand that are not the big internationals as well.
  22. They talk about mental health, but they don't actually do anything about it, because that's the difficult part
  23. I think that's my biggest question as well
  24. Certainly slang and colloquialism will be more difficult in pretty much any language. But I think it depends a bit on what your ultimate goal is. If you want a perfect translation that is one thing. But if you just need enough to get the gist that's another. For example, I enjoy the Thais on Twitter who review massage places. They're obviously writing for a Thai audience in Thai. If I plug their text into Google Translate it is definitely far from perfect, but it's good enough to get an idea of what's going on.
