I often read about forum members taking cash USD to Thailand and exchanging it for Baht there. Is it a US thing? For me, as a European (even more specifically: a Dutch person), financially it doesn't make much difference whether I exchange money in Thailand or withdraw it directly from the local ATM with my debit card. The transaction fees aren't that high, as long as you always choose the "without conversion" option (I think that's what it's called) on the ATM and let the bank calculate with the current rate instead of the rate fixed by the ATM. Why do you choose to bring actual cash from your own country?

I've read a few times about that (also on this forum) that outside the Silom area, which is very well known to us, there are also host clubs where mainly Thai (or at least Asian) visitors go. I think Fake-club is a well-known example of this? Apparently, a distinction has somehow emerged between the places for tourists and where the locals go. I'm curious what it would be like if Western to visit a hot bar that is actually "intended" for locals. Sounds like a plan! And don't forget: AI generally makes everything look better and prettier than it actually is. In the case of an advertisement that was clearly created with AI, I always think: it can only disappoint in real life...

I see promotional images ("flyers") popping up so often these days on Facebook and Instagram where it is just so obvious that they were created with AI. Unfortunately, they all start to look a bit alike. I miss the charm, uniqueness, and originality of the different venues. Personally, I find myself scrolling past quickly and not even reading what it is about if I can clearly see that it was created with AI. Below are a few examples...

The pool does indeed look good. As a nice place to chill in the afternoon, in between adventures and nightlife. But I don't see any parasols in any of the photos I've seen of this hotel. Does this mean the only option you have is to lie by the pool in full sun? I would really like some shade.

Judging by the photos on booking platforms, the cheaper rooms have no windows and a shower that makes the entire toilet soaking wet when used. I consider that to be a definite disadvantage. The more expensive rooms look much better (large window, spacious bathroom with a separate shower, and even a bathtub). However, the price of that room is the same as what we find in many hotels in the area. I am curious to hear your findings on whether there is indeed a good reason to book this hotel, besides the fact that it is new and shiny.

Are you traying out all new hotels in the area? Nice! I personally love new hotels. But nowadays, unfortunately, it is often the case that while everything looks very beautiful and modern, there are still major downsides. Such as virtually no sound insulation between the rooms or between the room and the hallway. Or certain designs that are not practical. Like the fact that when you take a shower, the entire toilet gets wet. I am curious to read your experiences in the new hotels alongside the photos.

This is the first time I've heard of this massage shop. It's nice that they clearly show on their website which staff are straight and gay. I assume that the massage prices on their website are for the room and the amounts listed per guy are the extra tip for the guy, and that this includes extra service, given the size of the tips?

It was very entertaining reading all the posts about your trip. I especially like it when people include some photos in their trip reports, like you did. Good job! The funny thing was that I recognized many things in your posts from my previous trip. Your experiences at A&P in Phnom Penh, your stay at Quarter Silom, some restaurants I've been to too, etc., etc., etc. I, too, was lucky enough to meet fellow forum members in person a few times on my previous trips. Although I don't mind exploring Bangkok and the nightlife on my own, I always really enjoy doing that with fellow forum members.
