Addendum: The 350 Baht "host drink" does include one drink for the host. Mea culpa. Addendum: smoking in the bar is allowed. I saw several people smoking during a live video call with a member of staff but he was quick to point out there's plenty of seating on the verandah for those of us who don't want to die from passive smoking. Of course, this begs the question: why not make the smokers sit on the verandah or at least make them step out onto the verandah if they fancy a cigarette? Apparently they have been a host bar since late 2023 and what's interesting is that quite a few of the hosts from that time have remained on staff (although some have new noses and chins) so they must be making money.

Yup, I thought so too. Thus far, the only bar that allows smoking in the bar that I know of is the current incarnation of Boyz Boyz Boyz in Pattaya.

Is Hotmale still owned by the same group which owns Moonlight, the karaoke bar below it and a Thai restaurant nearby? It was when I spoke to one of the co-owners way back in 2019. He was a young-ish, pleasant looking guy with a nice demeanour and we would sit and chat on the Hotmale terrace till late; I remember a staff member from Moonlight would drop in with the night's cash takings after closing which amounted to hundreds of thousands then.

A lovely description. I don't know what the fuss over breakfasts is anyway. A kiwi or banana with greek yogurt and a cup of black coffee is enough for me! As my Aunty Vin would say, "Just go!"

Agreed on Starbucks. I think I've been in one three or four times my entire life and always because somebody else wanted to go there. I usually support the independents in Thailand. Good and inexpensive coffee, breads and cakes supplied by local bakeries and stay-at-home mums seeking some income and, because of their relative small size, these cafes are a great way to make new friends with both the Thai and foreign regulars. Never been to the restaurant in Foodland and can't comment but many forum members seem to like it.
