@aaroninatl I recommend Chiang Mai Ram Hospital on the west side of town if you decide to get your head checked. It's less than a 10-minute Grabcar ride from where you're staying. No need for an appointment; just walk into the Emergency room with your passport, tell them your problem and they'll sort you out. The nurses are very kind and some of the prettiest I've seen anywhere. English is widely spoken. There's a diagnostics/health screening centre adjacent to the main hospital with a wide variety of health screening packages which you might want to consider given your health issues. Results are quick, usually within a day or two and will be thoroughly explained by a physician. There's also a Starbucks on the premises - you'll love it! Actually there are several very good private clinics and small hospitals within walking distance from where you're staying but I shan't share them for now as they're more Thai-oriented and I'm acutely aware that you're looking for a more western/American experience in Thailand. Besides, Chiang Mai Ram is a great one-stop hospital with a whole range of specialists should your condition require further investigation. However, if you do decide to settle in Chiang Mai (or even in Bangkok) I'll happily recommend a couple of English-speaking GPs and pharmacists. Personally, I'd rather go see an experienced GP when I'm sick (which isn't often) who knows me and my medical history rather than different doctors at a hospital. There's probably been a mix up of some sort and they don't have sufficient staff to manage the crisis. Make sure you take pics of all the documents you fill in and also, very discreetly, of the officer handling your case and their name tag. I'm very sorry to hear this. Can't you check in to your hotel and sort your luggage out tomorrow? I think there's been a breakdown in the system as a result of baggage handlers and other airport staff not showing up for work due to the floods. Maybe not in Surawong but other areas in Bangkok are still inundated. The Thai government has just declared Monday 28 September and Tuesday 29 September 2026 special holidays for civil servants in Bangkok and three surrounding provinces to help ease congestion on public services. I imagine critical services will operate as usual.

Over the years, I've seen countless older western men with younger Thai guys/gals coming in and out of hotels with their heads held high. Not a problem. I imagine some American Bible Belt missionary type might have taken issue at some point but I haven't seen it myself. The Thais have their views of course but they largely keep them to themselves. a-447 was most likely not the first old farang customer the Thai guy had and it was probably not the guy's first time at The Ambiance either! The working guys and gals become de-sensitised to this aspect of their job very quickly. What they don't become de-sensitised to is rudeness, disrespect, customers with poor hygiene, customers who reneged on the terms of their agreement and customers who are physically abusive. I'm sorry but I had to point this out in case new, older readers who aren't familiar with the system and industry culture may be deterred from going to the bars and taking a guy back to their hotels by what a-447 wrote. Outside of the industry, the May-December couples that I've come across are very open about their relationships; some are even married and have moved back to farangland to live on Main Street. Respectfully, a-447's sensitivities and insecurities are his own.

The situation is a lot more rustic and dire than I imagined and I feel sorry for the folks who have to be evacuated because of the floods, not to mention the cats, dogs and livestock, which are bound to be left behind. It's as if these folks haven't suffered enough hardship in their day-to-day lives as it is. My guess is the delay with Thai Airways is caused by the flight originating from Bangkok whereas SIA and Scoot are departing from Singapore as its point of origin. There's bound to be some hiccups at Suwannaphum (for eg with catering services, maintenance, etc) with the floods. Safe flight and enjoy your trip to Bangkok!
