Does the farang know about his boyfriend's family? In my experience most of them do and the older they are, the more forgiving or at least tolerant they are of these unique arrangements. I mean what's the alternative for them? And to be fair it's not only the straight Thai men who have local partners on the side; the gay guys do too. This is why regardless of sexual orientation, the local guys LOVE long distance relationships where the farang only visits a few times a year and just sends money every month. That way it's easier for them to juggle multiple sugar daddies AND have a Thai boyfriend or girlfriend on the side. I just brought up straight guys because more often than not, they are the ones who build or buy homes back in the village when they are going to get married. But of course, women and gay guys build houses back home too. It's a symbol to show the parents and neighbours that they have made it in the city. One fine example is Puy the Roti Lady, who I mentioned in the banana roti post. She's done very well for herself through her hard work and her house in Isaan is now ready.

I can't say I didn't expect this. I'm not one to offer relationship advice as in my experience people would do what they want anyway and some lessons, whether good or bad, need to be learned by the parties themselves. Out of curiosity is Cam gay or straight? I ask because in my long experience with rural Southeast Asia as a gentleman farmer myself, when straight guys want to build or re-build their homes in the village, it's because they wish to settle down, assuming that they aren't already married or attached on some level.

Not only Yupin's but there's also Buenos and Poseidon's Wine Cellar on the rainbow walk. I believe The Venue serves food too. On the other side there's Dick's Cafe and the soon-to-open Schatze. Running a restaurant is hard work for anyone, regardless of nationality, and it's not just about being cordial to patrons. There are many behind-the-scenes goings-on which we do not see, notably the management of staff. In most cases the owner has to be on premise to ensure quality and that everything is going smoothly. My sister has two very successful restaurants here but she is very hands on and has her eye on everything, meaning she has little time for anything else other than her family. That said, I'm inclined to agree that serving prissy, entitled queens and queen bees of a certain generation must be exhausting; having been ignored at home, they start to put on airs in places like Pattaya and threaten to flounce at the slightest perceived slight. They would also have no qualms bad mouthing the establishment. Personally, I couldn't care less whether the owner of a restaurant comes to say hello to me or not as I don't measure my self worth from such things. What's important to me is the taste and quality of the food, the service and the price. I would be insulted though if the restaurant had a cat and it didn't come say hi and invariably they all have since I was a kid. Is it any wonder why I have 29 cats? 😸😅😻😽

Yes, the site in Pratamnak Soi 6 is currently undergoing renovations. It looks spacious in a garden-type setting and I've attached a few pics that @bkkmfj2648 took. I don't know why he picked that location but I can hazard a few guesses why he didn't choose Jomtien Complex. Unlike Silom Soi 4 which has become sort of an international, permanent Mardi Gras-like street attracting gays and straights and everything else in between of all ages, Jomtien Complex is still very much a niche market of elderly white men with twinks that may appear underage to the unknowing and scare off potential customers. G's is located near the entrance of Silom Soi 4 but that sweet spot is already occupied by the well-established Poseidon Hotel and Restaurant in Jomtien Complex which means any foot traffic would have to walk past the twinky bars and their admirers to G's. Moreover, the presence of illegal workers in the area would invite police raids which could further deter customers. I'm aware that there are F&B outlets in the complex that have had some success but G's has built their reputation elsewhere and they probably wouldn't want to alienate any part of their extensive customer base and thus decided on a neutral, "clean" site. Pattaya has many middle class expat families who would probably patronise a restaurant like G's, as would families on holiday, and I have a feeling the concept of the restaurant in Pratamnak would be a little different than the one in Silom Soi 4. For example, they may even have a little play area for kids or a stage for G-rated (pun intended) performances. My only wish is that he would adopt a few more strays and let them roam the grounds. 😻😸😽

I could live anywhere and still make myself useful and make everyday count. While my surroundings may have some impact as to what I can or cannot do, I wouldn't let it dictate how I live my life. Right now, in addition to my regular work, I also do animal rescue, fruit and vegetable farming and volunteer with marginalised communities in various capacities. I sleep well at night because I go to bed having had a full day. I agree that a life of propping up bar stools would get tired very quickly and bitterness and cynicism will set in. When I worked in Bangkok for a year in the early 2010s do you know how many times I went to Patpong, which was very close to my offices, at night? Four times and this was always because friends visiting wanted to go.

Why not get a unit on the same side as Jomtien Complex then such as in View Talay 5 or View Talay 7 and use the designated pedestrian crossings to get to the other side? I stayed in a studio unit at View Talay 5 a few years ago and liked it very much. It was on the eighth floor, had a lovely sea view and a nice breeze blowing in.

G's Pattaya outlet isn't open yet and is in Pratamnak, I believe, not Jomtien Complex. The pic you took could be of the new restaurant that @BjornAgainmentioned was going to open on April 1st.

You certainly have plenty to say about my experiences with my Thai friends, contemporaries and the nightlife workers I've met, interacted with and helped over the years and you've never met or shook hands with me either. This may surprise you but the vast majority of Thais do not live and breathe Patpong and Foodland.

Yes, certainly very helpful when interacting with human beings in the most intimate of circumstances. Who needs empathy or basic human decency. ...yup, it's all about the maths... 75%, 85%, 95%... but EQ = 0% Sure, it's all about you, isn't it, as you have the upper hand in the negotiations. I, I, I, ME, ME, ME. By all means, deprive the young man of an additional 100-200 Baht transportation fee, someone whom you liked and had had a good time with otherwise you wouldn't have asked to see him again. You speak of what's reasonable to you but is what's reasonable to you fair to him? That request for transportation costs could have been a subtle hint or euphemism for a slight increase in tip, which isn't unusual at all. What is unusual is being so thick-skinned and putting your own self at risk by going to the boy's place just to save a hundred Baht. Incidentally, sparing the boy a hundred Baht or two isn't being "posh" (do you even know what that word means?); it's called being decent and most customers with human feelings would have given it without being asked. Thai customers would have even grabbed a few beers and bought some food from across the street to be enjoyed together. They say you live in Thailand and speak the language but it seems to me that Thailand and the Thai people, with their gamut of emotions, kindness, silliness, canniness, humour and subtleties haven't rubbed on you at all. It hasn't changed you, which says a lot about you and your personality.
