I was pleasantly surprised by how much it's been cleaned up during my recent visits; I used to dislike Pattaya because the town itself seemed like nothing more than a loud caucophony of bars and brothels, not to mention the notorious Sunee Plaza. I think Covid helped to hasten the clean up and the rebuilding and gentrification of Pattaya. If you've got the time, I strongly recommend the shows at M2M and Sunee Intimate Bars in the Jomtien Complex. Those guys work very hard and deserve all our support especially during this rainy season. I also liked the Red Room Bar with its friendly and attentive staff.

Oh no. Please think this out VERY carefully. You've only been in Thailand a few days and thus far have had limited interactions with prostitutes (most of whom aren't even Thai these days) and stayed in the red light district of Bangkok. You don't know the food, the language, the culture and eat at McDonald's. It took me years to learn the language, not only to understand, but also appreciate the culture and I live an hour's drive from the nearest Thai border! You've been in a soap bubble of debauchery and soap bubbles tend to burst very quickly.

55 Going Dutch...I get it. 🤣 When I was in Pattaya recently I didn't get a chance to stop by the Cuckold Bar (opposite M2M) which seemed very popular with May-December couples. One of the local guys told me it's owned by a Dutch Australian guy who's a charming host and keeps a good bar. I'll check it out the next time I'm in town.

No, I wasn't. I was only making cracks at Olddaddy and pong, two characters I'm fond of on this forum. But thanks for your brilliant essay. 8/10. Only if you've got bad breath. Seriously, I think it depends on the type of kissing involved, with whom, the venue and, most importantly, whether the kissing between the parties was consensual. I saw some pretty outrageous things at the go-go bars in the old days but values and boundaries change, and things have been pretty vanilla lately in the Patpong bars. Ironically, the youngsters at the outdoor concerts, for eg S20 in Songkran, have become very bold and some were doing everything except penetration from what I've seen on social media. I've also seen some risque stuff at the new-ish strip joints and go-go shows on the Silom side and things can really heat up with some of the guest performers, including one famous socmed influencer who was there for one night only. Personally, I go to a bar to see attractive performers perform (it's part of the entertainment and fantasy) and would be put off by an unattractive customer getting all handsy and kissy with an attractive performer. Hence I avoid any of the "hands-on" type venues. During one of my first visits to Bangkok more than 20 years ago, I remember going to a bar in Surawong, I believe it was Super A (it was a tiny first floor bar on the same soi as the Mango Tree) and saw this wiry old farang who looked like he was barely breathing wobble in with a fem type whom I recognised as the bottom from the previous evening's sex show in Soi Twilight. They sat down and moments later the bottom unzipped the old farang and started to blow him there and then! I could see the her head bobbing up and down the old farang's dick. The old farang started to moan which sounded more like death throes and I began to wonder whether this was the Thai version of the last rites. Noticing my horrified look, the bottom told me to look the other way. Where was I supposed to shift my gaze? They were right in my line of sight and it's one of those things that simply couldn't be unseen. 🤢🤮 So I quickly paid for my drink which I had barely touched and quietly left. First and last time at Super A.

Num could have been a make-believe character or it could have been a sobriquet that the blogger assigned to his friend (boyfriend?) to protect their privacy. Num or หนุม literally means young man and is a very common pen/nickname in Thailand for males. (Interestingly, the nickname doesn't change when they get old!) For the same reason, Num, if he did exist, may have worked at another bar. Protecting his privacy seemed to have been the right thing to do as you went to track him down! But, seriously, you became depressed over this?

I hope I didn't put you off, Olddaddy. I think you can find something for 2 million baht in Pattaya, just not in the location you want and not with a sea view. Renting while you scout around for something more permanent is a good idea and try renting during the months in which you haven't been in Pattaya previously so that you'll get a better picture of what Pattaya is like all-year round. Pattaya can feel quite different during the high season which can last up to five months.

Totally agree with this. You need somebody firm, with authority and preferably a stake in the business to be on premise keeping an eye on things at all times, or at the very least during peak hours. Also, you need to know every aspect of the business inside and out and be able to fill in for any operational shortcoming. The F&B business can be very lucrative in SE Asia because of relatively lower overheads and labour costs but it is VERY hard work with no respite. I've seen several successful restaurants here and in Bangkok go belly up because the owners became complacent or were expanding beyond capacity, leaving the clueless staff to manage.
