The Rainbow Cheesecake is presumably a new product, and the pricing @280 Baht ++? probably already takes account of the deduction of 84 baht payable to Swing, a very worthy cause. Forgive me but I am cynical about multinational corporations promoting their presence/products on the back of the rainbow flag. If they really want to help why don't they sponsor Swing itself instead of artificially inflating the price of their products so that their customers are the ones making the contribution, while they claim brownie points as "benefactors"?

I am not sure how much these magazines were either available or publicised outside Thailand. I think that these magazines were mostly advertising local businesses to visitors/residents already inside Thailand. At that time you would find several publications available on the corner of a bar to read or take away for free. It never seemed likely that all the publications would be commercially sustainable. As it turned out none of them were.

Thanks for posting this information. It is indeed very sad. He was an absolute character and ran an excellent restaurant. Most trips to Bangkok we always visited at least once going back over twenty years. The restaurant won't be the same without him.

I also think that, in general, "street trade" in Tunisia have smoother edges than their rougher brothers in Morocco, in my experience. Although gems can always be unearthed under the least promising stones.

That's no excuse after such an entertaining day one!
