I guess he isn't on his deathbed after all. Too bad. I have an iphone and I like it quite a lot, but the cult of apple built around a guy whose ego has always outstripped his talent is inexplicable to me. I'm an old school tech guy, and I remember what a joke his company next was. The mac is great because it doesn't have to interoperate with anything. The ipod and the iphone are great products, but seriously.

I Love this DOCTOR!! HEALTH- QUESTION & ANSWER SESSION Q:I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true? A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... Don't wastethem on exercise . Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap. Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables? A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechan…

The GM CEO says automaker could still be forced to file for Chapter 11 despite federal loans. Do you think the billions of dollars will keep GM solvent? I would hate to see the automaker go under. DETROIT (AP) -- Despite receiving billions in federal loans designed to prevent the automaker from failing, General Motors Corp.'s chief executive said a bankruptcy protection filing could still be possible, according to reports. GM doesn't want to file for Chapter 11, but the Detroit-based automaker's long-term viability is "not 100 percent" certain right now, Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner told The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times for Tuesday stories. …

This from Britain's Guardian Newspaper today. The British foreign secretary, David Miliband, today argues that the use of the "war on terror" as a western rallying cry since the September 11 attacks has been a mistake that may have caused "more harm than good". In an article in today's Guardian, five days before the Bush administration leaves the White House, Miliband delivers a comprehensive critique of its defining mission, saying the war on terror was misconceived and that the west cannot "kill its way" out of the threats it faces. British officials quietly stopped using the phrase "war on terror" in 2006, but this is the first time it has been comprehen…

What is the USA coming to? One might say this is just trailer trash, but it seems violence is everywhere. Is this true or do we just read more about the bad things that happen? Angry Ohio boy, 4, shoots baby sitter Tue Jan 6, 12:22 am ET JACKSON, Ohio – Police say an angry 4-year-old Ohio boy grabbed a gun from a closet and shot his baby sitter. Eighteen-year-old Nathan Beavers was hospitalized Sunday with minor wounds to his arm and side after the shotgun attack. Police say another teen was also injured. 7. I first met Zeb Atlas at a porn convention. He had just done his first phot spread for Advocate Men.He was so cute-a hunky collage jock with a furry chest and a great head of hair. I saw him dancing at the Pirahna night club in Las Vegas this past weekend-he is now so massive that he could easily play The Incredible Hulk in a movie-no special effects required. Now I am sure there are some on this board that go gaga over bodybuilders-I am not of that camp. I hope someone tells him to stop soon-IMO he is just at the edge where he is going into freakshow territory if he gets any bigger.

  8. How many ways can I say FABULOUS!?!? I would use all of them to describe Bette Midlers sensational huge production show in Las Vegas! This was my first visit to Caesars Colloseum(having been to the old Caesars showroom many times)and all I can say is wow-not only is the theatre huge it is also state of the art. The Devine Miss M. is still devine at 63.Belting out songs, dancing, and keeping moving from one side of the enormous stage to the other-I was exhausted just watching her! The show is mostly Bette singing her hits-with some new songs and some great dance numbers performed by her 20 showgirls. There was one moment when Miss M' sat at the edge of the stage and playe…

It seems science is on the way to making love drugs and anti-love drugs. Ponder the implications in Pattaya. From today's NY Times. Findings Anti-Love Drug May Be Ticket to Bliss * Article Tools Sponsored By By JOHN TIERNEY Published: January 12, 2009 In the new issue of Nature, the neuroscientist Larry Young offers a grand unified theory of love. As suggested by GB, this follows on from the thread about the recent passage of Norway's new law banning the purchase, but not sale, of sexual favours. The statute books of local and national governments around the world are packed with idiotic laws. We already heard on another thread about Thailand's law making is essential to wear underwear whilst out of your own home! Here are some more - England It is illegal for two adult men to have sex in the same house as a third person. Why? Apparently, when bordellos began to appear in the big cities of England in the late 16th century, "homosexuals engage in such acts as sex(!), sado-masochism, transvestit…

It looks like a modest change in policy, though not to dramatic. As he says, we live in the same neighborhood. From Bangkok Post. Abhisit calls for change in Burma Published: 12/01/2009 at 10:34 PM Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Monday he wants to see change in military-ruled Burma, but indicated he would not change Thai policy to achieve it. He specifically ruled out western tactics such as sanctions, but would not say what action Thailand might take. In his first public comments on Burma since he became prime minister, Mr Abhisit said Thailand had to act differently because it was so close to Burma. "The goals of Western…

How sad this sort of thing still happens and in America, the land of the free. NEW YORK – An Ecuadorean immigrant was declared brain dead after being savagely beaten by attackers who shouted anti-gay and anti-Hispanic slurs at him and his brother, who were walking arm in arm, a law enforcement official said Tuesday. Jose Sucuzhanay, 31, was still clinging to life following brain surgery at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, said one of his brothers, Diego. "He's not dead. There are some decisions that need to be taken. We are brothers and we do not have the power to make that decision," Diego Sucuzhanay said, adding that their parents in Ecuador were involved in the d…

  17. Mine sure have. I flew over 50k miles in 2007.Made status in two airlines.Almost all on my own dime and for pleasure. 2008 was a different story Over half of my flights in the first quarter of 2008 were delayed by at least 3 hours-or cancelled.I grew so disgusted that I cut back my flying to the bare bones essential(meaning if it was more than a four hour drive I would fly)and just let my status slip without a thought. My year end tally for severely(more than three hours)or cancelled flights-80% If any other business delivered such an abysimal performance it would be quickly shuttered.Instead these airlines just keep on chugging---and even merging with each other!?…

Little Blue Pills Among the Ways CIA Wins Friends in Afghanistan By Jody Warrick Washington Post Staff Writer Friday, December 26, 2008; Page A01 The Afghan chieftain looked older than his 60-odd years, and his bearded face bore the creases of a man burdened with duties as tribal patriarch and husband to four younger women. His visitor, a CIA officer, saw an opportunity, and reached into his bag for a small gift. Four blue pills. Viagra. "Take one of these. You'll love it," the officer said. Compliments of Uncle Sam. The enticement worked. The officer, who described the encounter, returned four days later to an enthusiastic reception. The grinning…

  20. Heard today from a friend in the biz.Turns out his hunky Bf has been whalin on him for a few weeks-landed up in jail this past weekend. I have lost count of how many otherwise normal, sane, strong men in my life have told me the same tale. Now while I pay extra for abuse and humiliation I do not stand for it in my personal life and have cut many friends beacause of this. How about you-what do advise friends who come to you with this problem?

They arrested both mom and dad and put the kids in foster care. Seems extreme to me. WICOMICO CHURCH, Va. – A 6-year-old Virginia boy who missed his bus tried to drive to school in his family's sedan — and crashed. His parents were charged with child endangerment. State police said the boy suffered only minor injuries and authorities drove him to school after he was evaluated at a local hospital for a bump on his head. He arrived shortly after lunch, Sgt. Tom Cunningham said. It happened around 7:40 a.m. Monday on Route 360, about 61 miles east of Richmond. The boy, whose name wasn't released, missed the bus, took the keys to his family's 2005 Ford Taurus and dr…

The BBC website just posted some of Bush's more ridiculous expressions. I especially like this one - "I'll be long gone before some smart person ever figures out what happened inside this Oval Office." 12 May, 2008 Perhaps he did learn something from this pre-election piece of stupidity - "I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully." 29 September, 2000 But he has left posterity with one sad truism - "You know, one of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq to the war on terror." 6 September, 2006
