Not sure how the stars have aligned to BUT LATAM is running a special to Rio from MIA for Under $600... Dates are good for June into July... Considering going even though I just got back... Can't beat that price AND LATAM is a partner with AA so you get points when you travel on the airline... The food has also gotten A LOT better on their flights to Rio from MIA...

I got my tickets and this Thursday the appointment for my first American passport! The first weeks will be boring, lots of family time in Corrientes, a city in the NE close to Paraguay. There is gay life with a disco and a very active Grindr, and I am planning to enjoy it, but I do not think I will have much to report on professionals. A guy in the local forums promised me some phone numbers but I am still waiting. Then I will move to Buenos Aires to spend there the last week. For sure I will have experiences to report here. Since the first thread varied far and away from the topic, i thought i would put the summary in a pt 2 separate thread here making it a little easier to find/. i just got back from 9 days in Rio and 2 days in São Paulo. I stayed in a different apartment then i have the last 7 years as the one i usually get was unavailable. That turned out to be very good for me! the new apt is across the street from the beach at Posto 8 about a block from the Fasano Hotel, it is on the main floor and has a very large deck with many large trees with families of Marmosets that come down to the deck looking for food in the late afternoon and provided a lot of fun watching their antics! The games airlines play with the airfares always surprise me. Fares can go up or down on a moments notice. as a example I have learned in flying for business the last 25 years that you never make a reservation more then 3 months in advance and usually the sweet spot is around 6 to 8 weeks in advance. I made a reservation for my April trip the end of January and the cost for flying Calif. to Sao Paulo was $1825.00 What I do is put it on hold for 24 hrs.. which is free if you have gold/silver/plat. status with them.
