  1. You have to remember Vinapu that these same guys would almost certainly be walking slowly and unsmiling in their home countries. I am 71 now and realise that my health will not improve as I get older, but I am convinced that life for me here with my partner and his family close by is better than it would be living alone in the UK. The important thing for me at the moment because I live in Isaan is to be able to afford holidays, which the UK/THB exchange rate doesn't help but I can still afford
  2. Sorry to high jack the thread but Paulsf: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293924-d12593669-Reviews-Duong_s_2_Restaurant_Cooking_Class-Hanoi.html During your trip to Hanoi, if you enjoy a nice dinner, I highly recommend this restaurant. My partner and I ate there twice during our holiday in April. It is not a cheap restaurant but imo great value, reserve a table on the balcony, and of course it is much more enjoyable with a companion
  3. Spoon, I hope you and your friends enjoy Phare Circus. We went a few years ago and if we re visit Siem Reap we would definitely go again
  4. I have come across a problem trying to book a condo in Jomtien for a week in high season. The property will show it is vacant but when you try to book the owner/agent won't accept the booking as they want long stays over the peak season. I can understand this with popular condos so now I just book The Agate Hotel in the Jomtien complex.
  5. Thanks Moses, my friend told me today she has booked Mac for a day while she is in Bangkok in November
  6. In which case I think I may have felt intimidated!
  7. Thanks for taking the time to write your posts. I have really enjoyed both your style of writing and the information in them. I have been with my Thai partner for ten years and he loves good food and nice restaurants. Because we live in Isaan and he knows when we visit Bangkok or Pattaya I like to eat western food, it is the western restaurants we tend to visit. He will shortly be 35 so he is quite a bit older than Bangkok guy which perhaps gives him more confidence as I have never noticed him being intimidated or uncomfortable. He is also a very good cook and when we go to mid range thai restaurants will say he could cook the same or better (which he could), however next time we are in Bangkok I will treat him to dinner at Baan Suriyasai and see what he thinks. Thanks again for your posts
  8. CurtisD, you certainly know how to treat a guy. Bangkok Guy is lucky to know you, you have great style which I suspect is not limitted to your writting
  9. Congratulations and best wishes for the future. I hope it all works out perfectly for you
  10. Sorry, I didn't mean my post to sound defensive, just meant to explain how I spend my holiday money. How I spend my money doesn't stop me enjoying (and dreaming) about how you spend your holiday cash
  11. You could hire one of Siam Roads guides for a day and tell him you want to visit places "off the beaten track"
  12. Good luck Spoon. Just be aware of one danger - I took a guy from Hua Hin for four nights in Pattaya (for the British members taking coals to Newcastle springs to mind) with initially no inclination it would be for longer. Now we have been together ten years in January and for the last five years we have been living in Thailand (And I wouldn't change it, he has turned out to be the most wonderful guy imaginable)
  13. Ah but Vinapu, I live in Isaan with my partner. When we go to Bangkok or Pattaya it is for a holiday during which we both enjoy eating good western food in a nice restaurant which is something we can't do in our home time. Although I am often tempted we are monogamous (but I have a holiday massage) so the money we are not spending on offs gets spent in nice restaurants
  14. I am sure your friend will enjoy a meal at La Table De Tee restaurant in Bangkok. The food is artfully arranged on the plate, my Thai partner and I always enjoy it and it is reasonably priced at 1350 baht per person. It is a fixed menu with choices on some courses. http://www.latabledetee.com/menu.php
  15. Moses I have sent the message again but it is still not showing in my sent box, so here it is: I have a straight middle aged lady friend coming to visit us in Thailand in November. She will spend 3 days on her own in Bangkok, she is very independent but I am wondering about suggesting one of your guides for a day. What do you think and would you recommend a particular guide
  16. Moses, I sent you a private message on here but nothing is showing in the sent box. Did you receive it?
  17. Sorry as I know this thread is about Bangkok, but I recommend Au Bon Coin in Pattaya for French food and ambiance
  18. There was a review on Trip Advisor three days ago for JJ Green Night Market (along with other recent reviews) Sorry I don't seem able to paste the link
  19. Your post brings back happy memories of a couple of trips booked with Ben must be about five years ago. One trip in particular from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai White Temple, Black House, a tea plantation and Golden Triangle was a long and great day out. Good to hear he is still going strong and I agree he has a comfortable big car and is a safe driver .
  20. But we definitely don't want the boys to look like us
  21. Abang, I echo other members thoughts and good wishes. Hope the doctors get you sorted real soon
  22. Interesting. Wonder if they could include Village Khymer - lol
  23. We have previously stayed at Baan Souy, whilst it is a very good resort with spacious rooms and a nice pool, I just like the location of The Agate, it is hassle free, step outside the door for The Venue cabaret and Jomtien Bars, a few minutes walk to the beach and Baht buses into Pattaya.
