Worth to mention US did double pricing of epic proportion for international student tuition fee vs local too, mostly double or triple of what local pays.

This is nothing new, foreigners are ID checked at most major nightspots and ordered to buy bottles at the door. They also have an uncanny ability to distinguish other Asians from Thais, and spot go go boys entering with customers. The boys are welcomed like old friends, their customers are shown the priciest drinks. Fortunately DJ Station is exempt from this practice !

The reasoning for cultural sites and certain attractions is that citizens pay taxes which contribute to its upkeep, therefore they in return receive free entry. This is common practice globally, where museums and cultural sites offer free access to citizens and sell tickets to others (eg Louvre, Versailles for EU residents  - at least when I was there several years ago. It may have changed since). Also a more historical theory is that cultural monuments should be freely accessed by the people they were built to serve, no matter income brackets so that no one should be deprived of culture and hygiene. This dates back to the Romans. Free access to culture was also one way of affirming the legitimacy and might of the rulers, for instance Napoleon trucking back sculptures from Egypt to awe the masses.
I agree this altruism has been distorted in Thailand, where nightclubs can in no way be seen as great cultural monuments nor is the taxpayer argument feasible here! I wouldn’t go as far as saying xenophobia but greed and discrimination, definitely particularly at national parks etc. For nightclubs, I have no sympathy for foreigners complaining they can’t afford entry. Don’t go.

I stand to be corrected. Should Jupiter or Moonlight or any of my favorite bars try to enforce double pricing I would be furious

    Day 2:
The next morning we ate at La Baguette.
    https://www.labaguettepattaya.com/
I love this place. I had a crepe and Jupiter Boy had a bacon and spinach quiche. Both were amazing. This place is now a go to stop every time I go to Pattaya. The Birthday Boy joined us for the meal.
My stay was pretty much only to see a friend and wish him Happy Birthday and to spend time with Jupiter Boy to see if we could travel well together. I got my answer and it was an affirmative. (except he does not like me looking at other boys). He was a very easy travel companion and I really enjoyed getting to know him more. We spent the afternoon at the hotel. The Renaissance is beautiful. It has multiple swimming pools. One was full of kids and families and the other one no one was there. The beach scene and the views are simply beautiful. We had a pizza for dinner and it was excellent.
Pattaya has changed so much since I stayed here years ago. The apps were busy and I found a few I liked. I did not get to Boyztown this trip.
Still, memories of Nice Boys danced in my head.  I was happy to see the boys at Nice Boys were still nice and smiling and hard! Old faces from the manasans from my first visit to Thailand nearly 20 years ago were and too many memories of the old Kaos and Krazy Dragon in Sunee.
Tomorrow, Jupiter Boy and I will head out but we have one stop to make on the way to Bangkok. Jupiter Boy is having a beer on the balcony overlooking the ocean, listening to movies on his computer. I did ask him if he wanted to go out tonight, and he said no, he just wanted to relax. So relax we did. Well, except for a bit of fun in the sun and under the blankets. I'm growing too attached to him for sure.

BTW: the rate for the Renaissance was around 2,200 baht. The cost of one room service was 1200 baht. LOL Imagine that. But, the hotel was filled with holiday travelers. Thais and expats that live here are swooping up the great deals for hotels. For example, I have had friends in 5 cities that said their hotels were not only not empty but breakfast buffet was busy every day. I think all the people in Bangkok are driving to those cities close by as the Intercontinental was filled for a few days I looked last week. I  think the tourism industry (if you are talking hotels) are going to be fine for a while. They are encouraging people that live here to travel and making it worth their while. I have friends in Phuket that got 5 star hotels for 2,000 baht and having a blast.

This doesn’t make sense. Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines are all exploding with cases despite being on the same latitude. Singapore is a case study, having controlled the virus extremely well in the general community but huge numbers in the closely confined dormitories. Conclusion can only be that it is about hygiene, precautions, isolating patients, mask-wearing, government regulations and proper social distancing. Not about warm countries.

It has been six months since I last saw a movie in a movie theater. If you read between the lines in a few of walk around gay Bangkok stories, the Jupiter boy and I are having a bit of fun together (or I am having fun with him at least). We decided to venture to the movie as neither of us have seen anything since Covid. We went to Central Bangna and were checked for temps at the door and had to scan in. The mall was pretty busy and parking we had to go to the top floor. The movie itself was not busy and pretty vacant. They do have a vacant seat between every 2 seats to space people out properly. But, not that many were there.
It felt nice to be in gay Thailand and out "on the town" and seeing a movie and having dinner. The sad thing was that my favorite dim sum place is now completely closed. They didn't make it during Covid as the malls were dead for a while and this was one of the best dim sum places in Bangkok. They still have one at Central World but I get there rarely.
I write this as Jupiter boys sleeps in my bed for the third night in a row. I think he might believe it is now his bed as he told me last night he wakes up with a hard on if he sleeps on the left side of the bed. I think something might be lost in translation but who cares?

Turns out this charmer has a police record in Missouri. With this history, the hotel manager was very lucky that the only thing fired off was a bad review.

I only stayed till about 10:45. It was raining and the area was getting zero walking traffic. Heavy rain. Took 20 min to get a grab.
I didn't find Mr. Babe as attractive in person as on video. There were others there I thought were sexier.

So, I check out Moonlight tonight. It was fun. It was VERY light on customers and lots of attention from boys. That was good. Babe was there. I didn't talk to him as I had a twink sitting with me I liked. I thought for their first few nights, it was pretty good and a good group of boys and models. They are having a big party of Oct 3 they told me as I left.

Because they are meant for a Thai audience. The boys have no interest in going with foreign customers nor is there any incentive for the patrons, or owners of these venues to introduce foreigners when they are doing good business from locals already. They have a system in place, foreigners don’t know the system and they don’t necessarily spend more than local customers, who have the benefit of being regulars and would not enjoy frequenting the same venue as tourists. Same goes for the girls commercial scene, for every Patpong or Nana bar, there are even more Thai-only joints with local entertainment and high rollers. There are also many trendy bars for a middle class audience, many of them pretend to be host bars but the boys and girls can he bought for the right price. There are also venues for hi-so and lo-so transactions. I was told if you go far enough up the hi-so ladder, even celebrities can be procured.

This is completely untrue. There is a huge, thriving gay scene in Bangkok that has nothing to do with commercial sex or go go bars. Paid sex is a very small fraction of the landscape.
The commercial sex scene is marketed and made accessible to English speaking tourists, which is why the discussion here tends to be heavily centered around boys and bars. But don’t discount the local gay scene, clubs and parties, the Songkran festivities, White Party, and the privately hosted gay events and parties just because our members rarely go to these. There is so much more to gay Bangkok than discussed here.
But yes I agree we all wish we were there, for bars or other venues.
