Just for interest --- if you end up here in Bangkok and are really 'pissed off' with all the cretinous farang firing their giant water cannons, make your way to Silom Soi 4 (Sala Daeng skytrain exit 1?), which will be water free (security at the head of the soi to confiscate guns).
These days are the busiest 3 days of the year in soi 4, it will be packed from 7ish till closing, continuously!
My choice is Balcony Pub or Connections.
They open for alcohol at 17:00 and are there, dry, till late.
Oh, and forget stories that it all finishes (the water throwing, at 18:00 or 21:00).  This is Thailand (T.I.T.) and rules are meant to be broken.
Me?    I'll be locked in my room, stocked with Leo Beer.
Oh and another VERY important point ---- do not take money, jewellery, passports etc out with you.  Pickpockets abound.
Everywhere, you will see plastic pouches for sale (about 100 Baht) to keep dry any personal items needed to be kept dry. But they are not thief proof.
    Finally, have fun.

Yes indeed and quite a few in Bangkok too.
I was once disappointed when my straight colleagues at work suggested that we all go to soi 4.
Sadly, they meant Sukhumvit soi 4 which is a famous girly bar area (Na Na).

We tend to forget there's another famous soi 6 - in Pattaya, full of girl bars, it's why is rarely mentioned here unless Vessey chips in

    From The Thaiger
An unnamed Thai police officer revealed that his superiors attempted to suppress a story about the arrest of a British backpacker for selling Category 1 drugs on a notorious island in Thailand.
Andrew Brett was arrested on Thursday, February 29, for allegedly selling ecstasy and LSD to other foreign tourists at the Ecco Bar on Koh Tao island in the southern province of Surat Thani. The Thai officer, who wished to remain anonymous, informed a reporter that the police had been monitoring the drug dealer for several months before they swooped to nab him.
The Thai cop made known they wanted to conceal the crime because the drug dealing took place on the notorious Koh Tao island, widely known as Death Island.
Following a tip-off from a concerned patron, police initiated an investigation into allegations that the British man was distributing drugs at the bar. After monitoring his activities for five months, officers finally apprehended him on his way to the establishment on February 29. Among his belongings, officers allegedly discovered 0.54 grammes of ecstasy in a plastic bag, along with 25 ecstasy pills and 75 LSD sheets, locally known as magic paper.
According to police reports, Brett would leave his apartment daily at 8pm to sell drugs to customers at the Ecco Bar, a short distance from Sairee Beach where British backpackers Hannah Witheridge and David Miller were tragically killed in 2014.
The police officer revealed that the case had been kept confidential for several months. Subsequently, they stated that orders had been given to “suppress the case”’to safeguard the island’s notorious mafia-like reputation.
“The suspect admitted that all the narcotics found belonged to him. He said he sold ecstasy pills to tourists for 1,000 baht each, while the LSD paper was sold at 100 baht each.”
Brett has been charged with possession of Category I narcotics for distribution and now faces a potential punishment of up to life imprisonment or even the death penalty, depending on the severity of the case.
Koh Tao earned the nickname Death Island following the tragic murders of British backpackers Witheridge and Miller in 2014. Subsequent incidents of tourist deaths have raised concerns, with several cases remaining unexplained.
Authors, documentary makers, and researchers have attributed these incidents to corrupt Thai police and a powerful group of local families controlling the island, accused of covering up the murders, reported The Daily Mail.

Yes it was me. One of the boys working there I’ve know for over 10 yrs txt’d me saying the bar had been shut last Monday by the police. We both felt it was probably some issue over paying bribe or new police chief…

I also hide in my condo in  Pattaya from 12th to 16th, then I flee to Bangkok as the nonsense finishes there on 15th, and then return to Pattaya on 20th as 19th is the most stupid day in Pattaya. I see though that the "government" intends to lengthen Songkran this year but I have not seen any details of those plans as yet. I remember on my first trip to Thailand in 1998 that Songkran even in Pattaya was more civilised in those days, with all the water throwing stopping as the sun went down about 6pm so you could dress decently and go out for dinner with no threat of stupid drunk farang dumping buckets of iced water over your head.

this is how dry days are working in Thailand, it's from midnight till midnight. It's why those strange  closing and re-opening hours, theoretically bars can be opened past and before midnight  but can't serve alcohol so most of them won't bother.
Serene likely did not serve alcoholic drinks before midnight even if opened and packed. If they did they took risk or bribed somebody, still I'd be afraid of jealous competition.

you are right about those with 'Bucha" name.
I'm surprised Christmas day landed on the list , I was there  on Christmas day in 2021 and it seemed as normal day plus of course all those decorations.
Before every trip I  check lit of holidays , Gaybutton forum has it always handy and when day in question comes close I will ask  in the bars if they will be closed or not. If they will , i make sure I save 1 or two boys from unemployment on that day.

And if you don't like people commenting about you, you're probably not ready for online forums. Yet you keep posting about your errors! 😇
