  1. I can imagine those times and the effect he had on women, and some men as well.

I recently saw an Elvis documentary on PBS about a benefit concert he did in Hawaii for the USS Arizona Memorial.

Very well done film.  Gives an idea of the man and his fans.

If you are a PBS member, perhaps you can view the film.   I'm glad I got this taste of Elvis.

That said, I am excited about Austin Butler and Tom Hanks cast together.  I hope I am not disappointed by the new Elvis film.

  2. I just watched Edge of Seventeen.  Streaming on Netflix.

One of those films I was never inclined to watch, but finally gave it a try.

Better than I thought it would be.  I liked the lead character.  His experience is similar to what many of us remember, dipping our toe into the gay pool.  Holds up pretty good for 20+ years old gay film.

Hey guys. I've just joined this site and am so grateful for the wealth of information provided here. I went through the streaming suggestions on this thread. While they are all amazing, they are mostly all in English, so I thought of providing some non-English examples that I love. I really enjoyed watching this new Indian film called RRR. It's on Netflix and is the No. 1 non-English film globally as of last week, and has also done amazing business in India. It's got elements of history and colonialism and the Indian struggle for independence (it involves 2 freedom fighters in 1920s India under British rule), pretty cool special effects, and a strong bromance (some people have interpreted some homoerotic undertones). Here's a link to one of the scenes in the film :)

Another good Indian film (mostly in English) is LOEV.

It left Netflix, but worth looking for.

Something for Pete1111 (who calls me a lying machine) `to masturbate to; Russian POW's of the Nazi Azov Ukraine army being tortured and executed. Get your poppers ready Pete1111, there's plenty of these being proudly spread around together with vids of dead soldiers' mothers and families being called on their cellphones and laughed at and more of POWs being  buried alive (while NUDE !!! oh boy Petie!!)

With celebrities, I agree that anything is possible.  But, as long as Smollett keeps claiming that he is innocent & that somehow he is the victim of the huge mess that he has created, it's going to be very difficult for him to recover.

Perhaps a reality TV show could somehow be crafted around Jussie and other celebs with careers that ran into the ditch.

In the near term, he might try Celebrity Big Brother.

He might ultimately repent and go on a book tour.

I'd have no interest in any of that.  But one can never underestimate the public's taste.

Unfortunately Thailand did not show the US Skating. We have recently had some other skating competitive events but none has featured any of the top half dozen men's skaters.

We still do not know if the double Olympic Champion and double World Champion Yuzuru Hanyu will have recovered from his ankle ligament injury in time to compete in Beijing. I hope he does. For me he is the complete men's skater. Like most skaters, I love his costumes with their tight-fitting pants - often quite revealing if you use your imagination as in this less elegant photo if his getting rid of some of the glitter on the ice. 😍

Pulkinen is 1/2 Thai, and 1/2 French/Finish mix.

  7. The Last Picture Show has been streaming on Showtime.  I did a little research and found the film was released 50 years ago.  So perhaps that is why it's streaming now, to remember the 50 year anniversary.

I learned it is based on a novel of the same name by Larry McMurtry, who we may know from Brokeback Mountain fame.

I was awestruck.   For cinephiles I assume The Last Picture Show is considered a masterpiece, especially the cinematography and direction.

The term bromance probably didn't exist back then, in 1951 rural Texas.  To me the film embodies what a bromance might have been between two straight guys in those times,  in the most subtle ways, ways that are lost on modern Hollywood.  The story involves more than just those two of course.   The cast was amazing.

    Truly a one-of-a-kind film.

I'm hearing so many accolades about Reid I was not aware of, and that he was also a street fighter and quite brusque at times.

    He was Mormon.
He is credited with Obama running for President and ensuring the ACA passed.
He was a strong LGBTQ ally.

Years after calling President Bush a loser, he admitted regretting saying that, that Bush was a patriot, that Reid missed him,  how he was the Babe Ruth of presidents compared to Trump, who wouldn't even make the team.

    R.I.P.
