  1. In Jomtien I regularly go to T.B.M.I. (Thai Blind Massage Institute ). A masseur will be assigned to you (but at least you can choose between male and female). Price is reasonable and the quality has always been good. Have also heard good things about Burirom health massage too.  Maybe not the personal masseur you are looking for though.

  2. Thanks for the great report about Phuket @vinapu !
So, whats your take about Phuket? Is it worth a visit? I was on Phuket 3x and the last time (10 years ago) the gay scene was small and a bit depressing. I could imagine to visit it again (maybe as a stopover on the route to Kao Lak).
I also don't like the animal zoo's. I also don't like human zoo's as in the north of TH close to the border to Birma/Myanmar (Meo tribes). Humiliating and embarrassing... but that's just my humble opinion. Did it once and never again.

Plenty of cute guys in that area. The massage places are open during the daytime too. The guys sit outside and so it's easy to choose.

Some of them are quite pushy and aggressive (Foxy Smile for example). Soda on the other hand are friendly. Sitting in O Delices you can watch them coming and going 😉

  4. Lately I was very surprised when I had a meeting with my students. Normally they bring their computers/tablets/handy in those meetings and are doing something online during the meetings. This time I was the only one with a computer, all of them were writing their notes on paper and were quite were present and focused.

    So, there is hope...

I must have missed the underground floors.  I'm pretty sure I only went UPstairs.  I need to pay more attention next time!

quite possible that I am wrong because there are no windows and I mixed it up. Cellars are rare in BKK because the groundwater is close to the surfaced

    Please keep us updated

Ok, I am already back from 39 Underground (no need to stay any longer 😉 )

It's just a 2 minutes walk from the Saphan Khwai BTS Station at the dead end of a small soi. Entrance fee was 250 (weekend price). At 2 pm it was already crowded. About 100 Asians and 2 Farangs 😉

The sauna spreads about 4 floors, 3 of them underground, hence the name. There is also a little bar and a roof "garden". In the very dark underground there was action on every square inch. As expected, most of the guys were more into Asians, but I had my fun too... plenty of it. It's not the cleanest place on earth, but I found it acceptable. All action was raw, never saw a condom in usage. I hope they use at least PREP since it's much cheaper here in TH. Today was naked theme, that`s why you only got a small towel and you were not allowed to carry the towel in the action areas.

So for me, the visit was worthwhile, even though I was more or less the only Western guy there.

Sauna Mania is in easy walking distance of Silom. Although it attracts a young crowd, some members report enjoying their visits.

39 Underground Sauna is a short walk from Saphan Kwai BTS. Attended by a local crowd of mixed age, it reportedly welcomes foreigners.

I will try 39 today. I hope it's not too crowded today because of Chinese new year. An old sauna saying goes: the more people, the less action.

There used to be a sauna in BKK that was notorious for ripping off and discriminating older farangs. Which one was that?

Have I already said how much I miss the old Babylon?

Is there civilization outside of the resort?  We noticed that the farther away that you got from the 2 primary tourist areas; White Sands beach and Lonely Beach it becomes quite remote.  Was that your experience?

We truly enjoyed eating outside of our resort at the Beach Tango place at the White Sands beach as it was much more lively and genuine than the sterile type of experience you can have when you remain confined within a resort for too long.

Chivapuri Beach Resort is quite a remote place. It's a very nice resort, clean, nice beach and a fast stable internet (important to me as a digital nomad). Not the cheapest one though. The hotel's restaurant is good and there are some small restaurants in the neighborhood , but that's it.

So, if you enjoy a diverse selection of restaurants and bars then I fear this is not the right place for you. But you can compensate for this to a certain extent by having your own car.

My experiences of staying in the area was between 2003-2009 when I was a devotee of the legendary Babylon, about a 10-15 minute walk away.  I stayed either at the Pinnacle or Malaysia hotels and had no complaints about either. At the Pinnacle I used to book through a local guy who lived in the hotel (think Jimmy was his name) who could save you a few hundred baht a night.

Good old days. I really miss the Babylon (the old one at the beginning of the road, now an apartment house and of course the new Babylon). The Pinnacle had a quite high gay factor during those days. From time to time I still book Pinnacle the have a confirmed homebase from where I do some trips around BKK and Hua Hin because it's so cheap. Pinnacle is a bit ran down nowadays, but still ok for that purpose.

I had never the impression of a hippy ghetto though.

Took Mike Taxi from Pattaya to BKK 1200 baht, driver showed up early, like always...was a female 😲
Had to stop for gas before leaving, why she wasn't prepared? Then restroom stop within 45 mins, wtf.

I probably had the same Mike driver today from Jomtien to Koh Chang pier. She didn't have enough cash for the gas so I had to pay her the transfer at the gas station.  Otherwise she was ok...

Certainly a regular thing in Pattaya.

No one  wants to walk anywhere….except Falangs!

Many of the boys around Pattaya are Cambodians or from Laos. So, the problem may simply be a lack of local knowledge (Applies of course to boys from Isan etc)

  12. I like this thread, it covers what's on my mind at the moment. I'm taking early retirement this February and I'm thinking a lot about what to do next. I don't think I could be in Jomtien for more than a few weeks. I'm an engineer and I also have a part-time mandate that I can do remotely. Nevertheless, I am relatively sure that I will get bored over time. I would probably become lethargic and an alcoholic over time. Even having fun with boys would probably get boring 🙂 . I will probably do it in such a way that I will escape the beautiful but cold Switzerland for about 3 - 4 months, travel around Thailand a bit and then stay in a rather quiet place like Hua Hin. Of course with a detour to BKK and Pattaya  from time to time🙂
In two days in Jomtien... I'm looking forward to it

    For reference, when was this?

One of the reviews on the agoda says:

To be honest, that was just before COVID started. So things hopefully have changed. The pictures from the rooms look promising and if they also renovate the sauna in a similar way then I would give them another try for sure. But this time, I am on the other side of the gulf... Jomtien and Koh Chang 🙂

I find it extraordinary that travel insurance is not mandatory for genuine tourists and a basic health insurance mandatory for all expats. Why anyone would consider travelling anywhere without some form of health and accident insurance absolutely beats me.
