You might be aware that me and him are BKK bound in January for a month.

We do like a beer and we do like a boy but, Christmas in Patong the boy bars (with permission) rinsed us of every penny.

We had a fabulous time but that lifestyle is not sustainable when you only want a beer in a gay bar. 
 

I'm looking for a gay bar where we can just have a drink and not be bothered by 'and a drink for me'

At the end of a long day, when we're tired and just want a very very cold beer  where would you suggest?

I love a boy bar and getting rinsed, but not nightly,  some nights a time out is nice. 
 

Cold Beer, Gay Bar, Bangkok.  Suggestions welcome, we're staying at the Quarter on Sala Daeng, by Lumphini park.

Balcony and other bars in Silom Soi 4 are nice places to watch people and get a beer.

For somewhere less crowded than Silom Soi 4, if you want quieter than that, what do people think of the White Rabbit bar near the entrance to Silom Soi 2?

You've taken the words right out of my keyboard. But I wonder if F.F. is asking about Patong or Patpong.
Nearly (with 2 exceptions) Soi 4 establishments  are drinking and eating bar/restaurants which get very busy . Most with outside terraces.
Not really offable staff but many would be willing to see you after closing time 12:00-02:00.
Generally all the same prices for food and drinks.
All are good for just sitting and soi watching and meeting other tourists or locals.
Just go, relax and enjoy.

I've never been to White Rabbit but often see it from a taxi on the way from Soi 4.  Usually late at night and looks VERY busy.
I really must go there as my two favourite singers in Thailand (ex and current Balcony) perform there. Golf and Oama (Ao Om).
Only been put off because people tell me they really like it there (very close to soi D.J. BUT that it is expensive (yes I'm that stingy) but I don't know if that is true or not

The problem is Balcony and Telephone/Circus are snooze fests. Botoxed guys posing and staring, ex-bar boys clinging to faded hiso fantasies and hoping to score one last big fish, everyone glued to their phones. Smoky, cramped, and full of queeny farang couples horrified at the idea of an Asian guy approaching them saying hello.

I would take a gogo or host bar ahead of them any day, even if i am being badgered for drinks!

Yes I think I paid around 400 (209 each ) baht for 2 beers ..they add service charge

I wasn't blown away by it, that said we did find one quiet bar to have a beer in adjacent the main gay bar street, the main gay bar street is a bit desperate imo.

We were there two weeks and most nights would take a stroll, the boys are not shy at trying to drag you in to thier bar for a drink, especially if they've seen you there the previous night.

We were not there for happy endings so I can't comment on that aspect but there were plenty of cute lads offering massages without too much pressure to oblige them. 

Patong was over run with tourists to the point that walking the main street was an assault course, we were there over the christmas weeks.

I disliked having to barter for goods, I prefer shopping where the price is displayed

I doubt we would return, but that said, the boys in the street were welcoming and amusing and very pleasant.

I am my own worst enemy so buying drinks for cute lads is something I don't mind doing but it's not sustainable every time you go out for a drink.

As said before, soi 4 is not a soi for host bars (with a couple of exceptions).
And i cannot recognise Balcony or Circus at all from your descriptions.

@durianThanks for the video clip and detailed reply. So the go go bars like Tangmo, My Way, etc are now gone?

I like Phuket Town and some of the other beaches on the island but have never taken to Patong.

Phuket is not on our radar for sure, We have seen Patong and won't return.
We can't wait to go to Bangkok in January, I am very much hoping to be very busy/exhausted/expired in a dark room or steam room, fighting off the attention. (insert exhausted old man emoji) 

I am ignorant of the bars that you mention. I don't pay enough attention to details, unless he is cute...

Would suggest Midnight Bar. Underneath Fresh Boys on Patpong 2 Alley, just up from the infamous Took Kae Dae, aka Foodland Phat Phong.

Midnight Bar is a good recommendation. The waiters are charming and speak English well. They are also great fun.

"Apperatips" as shown on the Midnight Bar drink menu is a misspelling of the word "Aperitifs". 

The liqueurs listed are usually considered as aperitifs, and sometimes as digestifs by some.
